Finally ROland makes a kit with realistic-sounding toms. One area of note that is never mentioned where touchscreens are concerned is accessibility. There are blind drummers, myself included, and we do want to play eDrums. But we're being left behind by all eDrum manufacturers. I've been working on this for years and sadly nobody, Roland included, is willing to implement accessibility features directly into the module even when the offer is there to develop it for them for free, so we still can't access most features of the module without memorising every menu. However at least Roland haven't taken the buttons away. Is the app fully comprehensive, I.E can it control every single feature and setting possible on the module or are there still instances where you'd need to use the module interface? Are the apps platform native, or written in some cross-platform language so they too won't support assistive software?
I'm colorblind and told Boss and Roland to simply change the color of the lights so it's not green and red like 90% of color blind people are, and I still doubt I'll see a change in that. All their amps and pedals have these colors, so I can't use them live. Luckily there's other great companies out there !
I like the new screen and the sounds are much better. If they could get the price in a more reasonable range, that would be the clincher. Good point about buttons versus touchscreen. You have excellent drumming technique and I love your hi hat work Michael.
I am still rocking my good old TD-12 😅 I actually think this new drum set and module are quite a cool upgrade, however I don’t see myself spending that much money on just an upgrade
The one should have been equipped with touch screen and control knobs anyways. Also, it is still not clear if rim click/cross stick sound is possible to get by its own if you strike head and rim( hoop) simultaneously. Usually there’s priority of one zone prior over the other which is no right thing . To me, it’s a major aspect when it comes to a snare drum. Overall, I’m glad a new product hits the market!
I agree !!!! That's what a rim shot is !!! Both hit at the same time and it gives you that high ringing, like in reggae music. I've been trying to get that sound on my TD27 and digital snare, but it's just not even close to the same as acoustic. I love harmonics on acoustic snares. It seems like an easy solution.... When you hit the rim and head at the same time, you can choose the type of high pitched ringing ??? Right ? I hope that's addressed on this new module, otherwise, they didn't really move the needle far in my opinion.
This infinite upgrade path for electronic drums isn't sustainable. Who wants to drop 9K for a kit that will be obsolete in 3-4 years if not sooner? Then you're going to buy another 9K kit? Don't get me wrong, I have a Roland electronic kit for recording (with SD) and practicing but I'm absolutely NOT shelling out 9K when I could spend that same money on a DW acoustic (or similar) that doesn't need 'upgrades.' This is just insane.
I've recently changed all my VAD shells to the DWe wireless shells & use the USB adapter via TD50x. Have you tested the new V71 with DWe & if so, is this a better option than trying to use a laptop and Audio Interface for soundworks live?
yes, yes and yes. DW Soundworks integrated into the V-71, with Wifi connectivity some Soundworks content also directly downlaodable into the available expansion slots…
@@michaelschack HI Michael, I did but still seemed to be quite a rocky version :) anyway, nobody does that better, and always have a blast watching you play. cheers!
I can watch Michael play all day. He's incredible! Very inspiring. Makes me want to go play my TD50X. Be cool to be able to purchase his song mixes. Thank you sir for the demo.
Liking this new line up a lot, but why still no 14" tom for the V713 or V716? Can't be that hard to make. I'm using a PD140DS as my 'floor' tom to get a more realistic feel, as haven't got space to be lugging around the VAD style toms- although they look great!
@@DerekScheel I agree, when you consider all the different instrument sounds, overhead sounds/mics, room sounds, it's basically a completely drum recording package. Even if you went with an acoustic kit, you'd still spend a pretty penny once you factor in cymbals, mics, stands, and of course a nice sounding room to record in. If you're not going to record with it I don’t see the point, but these kits are very capable creation tools when you put the time in to learn the module fully.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the dynamics of these built in sounds, still missing the soul you get from Superior Drummer 3, just get the TD-50x and run those samples through a USB into the the TD-50x module
Go check these out first, bring your own headphones and laptop, compare to your favorite vst, and then…be amazed on how incredibly more dynamic the V-71 makes you feel while playing. It will really surprise you. I know not everyone is a hard hitter like me…
@@michaelschack Kind of, I’ve had a TD-50, TD-27 and TD-12 before that. Now I mostly play a Yamaha DTX-Pro X. In my experience Roland’s playability is really good but the sounds are lacking behind VST’s like SD3 or EZdrummer.
I use the TD50x for external events drumming, and I use Superior Drummer 3 and DW SoundWorks in my home studio when recording drum covers in midi format to my DAW. The ability for people now to have the amazing SoundFont kits and play them live on stage without the need for a dedicated laptop is simple amazing for them! that and the many other improvements around the module and the kits.
@@Scolecite why would I want to pay for this? I was hoping they're going to release something that's on par with the Mimic Pro, or at least the sounds of the Strata Prime. Too bad, it's a missed opportunity imo
Go check it out, bring your own sticks and headphones, come to a demo clinic. I’ll prove you’re actually wrong, except for the fact that my drumming technique is not always very dynamic 😉
