In this video we are looking at an impressive oldschool Seiko 5 SNXS79 , which can be bought for $100. I was very impressed by the level of quality that Seiko used to deliver back in the days. Enjoy!
I love the way you present the watch and those are all possitive ways of admiring a watch. I just got my SNXS79K a week ago and changed the bracelet brushed with polished finish. It levels up the looks and now it looks a lot gorgeous and expensive watch.
What's up, the best review I could find is this one, the description, the images, the macros, the atmosphere, even the music, as an enthusiast I wanted to be convinced of purchasing this affordable piece, and thanks to you I have made the decision to do so. Obviously to wear it on the wrist and for the pleasure of having it in the collection, since they will soon be extinct, because they have been discontinued. I recognize your work, thank you and greetings.
I recently bought two. One will soon end up in a mod I had planned. But I really started to like it as is. The dial is one of the most beautiful dials I have ever seen. One must give credit to the big crown where credit is due: Rolex did a pretty nice homage to the SNXS79.
I'm thinking about buying another one as well. I bought SNSX79 and SNK361 and found I like case from SNK more. End up with SNK case with SNSX79 dial and since I was taking all things apart I upgraded movement to NH36a and crystal to sapphire with anti reflex coating as well.
@@Tom_Kowalczuk nice! can you upgrade the movement without replacement the crown? Do you need to buy something else apart from the new movement itself?
Great video, thanks. I have an SNXS79, love it, been wearing it on a leather strap over the winter, watching this, think I’ll go and swap it back on the bracelet now for the summer. Tempted to try and find a white dial version too. Take care.
Seiko and all their artistry..... I felt like the rolexes were the bankers watch..... And the Seiko is the artist watch...... I am so in love with Seiko and their designs and their watches
I've had my SNXS79 for 4 years now. The graphite grey sunburst dial is the star of the show. The cheap folded metal hair puller of a bracelet isn't the best so I added a Strapcode Jubilee Bracelet. I totally love this watch.
Another neat project to come up with something neat, along the same lines: Buy two Seiko 5s. A SNKL45K1 and a SNK393K1... both nice enough in their own respect. But, swap the bands and see, you end up with two very good looking budget watches. Thanks as always, your videos are great... and cheers from Japan.
Fabulous video all around. Brilliant line within one of the best brands. A very overlooked iteration, that with its crown at the 3 position, there is another Seiko 5 reference that even more so reflects the look of a Date Just.
Excellent video my friend. I am not into recessed crowns, (not even at 4) but yes, for 100 bucks is excellent. As others have said, I rather invest a little more in a San Martin homage.
The Seiko 5 SNK789 was my first foray into serious watch collecting. Prior to that, I had Citizen, Invicta, Casio, and Timex quartz watches. But it wasn't until my late father gave me his old SNK789 that I started to truly appreciate mechanical and automatic watches. I still love quartz watches for their accuracy and relatively cheap maintenance costs, though.
Niiice review mate n indeed, this watch stood its own, even until now... Would you consider doing a review for the other SNXS series? Like the SNXS 73, 75 n 77 too? 😊
Seiko 5 are the best!!!! they are absolutely the best!!! I have owned two rolexes and one of them when I was sailing the band popped open and it almost slipped through my wrist into the Great big ocean..... There was just something awkward about the way the rolexes laid on my wrist...... Then I discovered the Seiko 5.... Everything about it was perfect everything I could read the date without the Cyclops I everything about the lume was incredible incredible lume..... The watch band is amazing I know some people will say oh it feels cheap .... But to be quite honest I like the way the bracelet hugs my wrist and lays on my wrist more aerodynamically...... I love my Seiko 5 and I cannot get over the fact that it is only a tiny tiny fraction of a Rolex..... I ended up giving the Rolex watches away because the jeweler that I bought it from would only give me a fraction of the price on a trade up..... So it gave me more pleasure to give them as gifts..... Now I can spend all that money on Seiko watches and collect all of them..... There is no limit for the joy that a Seiko 5 and Seiko watches give me...... I take this one to sleep with me at night so I can check the time if I need to......
What a great watch! It is so good that is really hard to find actually. For sure best value for it's price range. I have been looking for one, but since it was a hard time to get for a reasonable price, I went for the SNKK71K1
I was given my fathers Seiko when I was in high school. It was my favorite thing I ever owned! That was back when they were ALL made in Japan. I dont know if they were much better or not.
it's just a different feeling. not a real deal world tangible difference imo. I've compared all my models out the box, Japan and otherwise. cant spot a lick of difference, seiko seems to run a tight ship with quality control and high standards even in their satellite factories. but gives me a choice between a regular model and a k model, I'll always pick the original. some retailers don't even make the distinction.
@@BraveBeaters They can be replaced one to one, hands fit 100% the same. One difference might be with plastic movement holder but that depends of the case.
Wayyy cool. 😎 Niiice video n I agree. Happiness from a watch may not necessarily be related to price or certain premium brands... 😁 While this watch is certainly value for money n great quality for the price... Is there a similar Seiko that is slightly larger? Thanks. 😊
A watch is to tell the time and its nice to see automatic (mecanical) watchrs still about also with Seiko you get a decent watch ehich just as capable as Rolex ect
An awesome watch, but its next to impossible to get for 100$ in Europe. I got mine for about 220$ and still is a great watch for the money. Simple and elegant, the dial is simply beautiful. Slap it on a good strap and its an absolute banger looking way more classy than the price suggests.
Seems like a lot of channels are doing the same video about this watch. The comparison with the rolex. Even watch finder did it. Seemed ignored up until recently.
I am like 99% sure that if the 5 series watches did not have the 5 emblem they would be selling like hot cakes. The new version is a bit better, but I would still prefer to have nothing below the Seiko branding
Bit late to comment but just unboxed my SNXS79J (Japan manufactured) re strapped with a oyster bracelet to address the strap quality. It’s just a beautiful watch and that 7s26 movement is more accurate and reliable than the seiko 5 SRPD51 I bought about 2 years ago. It left such a bad taste in my mouth as my first Seiko because the movement in it was a disgrace losing minutes per day. Sometime over night up to ten minutes. Eventually I threw it away. It was junk. This SNXS79J truly is the essence of Seiko 5 and as you said one of the last Samurai’s. It will remain part of 5 watch collection for good. Love the review and new to to your channel. Thanks.
What do I think about this watch?! I didn't buy it! By the way if you still have the Certina ds500, it's good to know that you can install an Aqua Terra bracelet on it, and good to know that Aqua Teera's bracelet and Seamaster 300m 41mm are the same and good to know that strapcode are selling bracelets for Seamaster 300m 41mm! Let me see your watch on a bracelet in your next video. Have a nice day.
Hi, I don;t have it but I am planning to re-buy it, I was expecting to find a more affordable watch to source the bracelet from it, but yes :))) I am planning to buy an Aqua terra as well. good for reviews. thanks for the info :)
@@BraveBeaters Hi, actually the bracelets from strapcode are relatively affordable, and regarding the Aqua Terra you want to buy, get the white dial with blackened hands and indexes or the grey dial with blued hand and indexes, other than these two you will have problem reading the time in some light situations.
Here's another $100 that cannot be purchased for less than $200++ thanks to the hype created by these videos. Thank you for this review, which also features some lovely shots. However people thanks to all these lovely shots and mellow music, soon forget that comes with that awful 7s26 (yes, in 2022, it is a dreadful movement) a crappy bracelet (in 19mm on top of that) and basically 0 water resistance. You are paying $100 for that lovely dial, which funny enough, is also the average cost to buy a new genuine Seiko dial... Also 36mmx13mm makes this watch too tall for its width. Ps. I am not trying to ruins anyone's day, I am just being honest with myself and with this comment Cheers
I could forgive the ridiculous 13mm if it had some real world water wr as it should being a sport watch. Should easily have 100m. Your comment is spot on.
The more people try to compare cheap Seikos to Rolexes, the more ridiculous Seiko looks through no fault of their own. Next we’ll be hearing how a Casio G-shock is better than Patek’s Calatrava, because G is way sturdier, infinitely cheaper, and even keeps better time. So funny.
