I love how all they said isnt true. We do get test and homework, we sertanly dont have that much recess and in 7th grade they usually have 30 hours a week if school. Can we get real information sometimes? We stress alot, only reason they say we have a good system is because people treat other the same way and schools are free, no need to pay for school lunches and they get high education. If our school system is different it doesnt mean our life is full of happiness and joy. Life doesnt work that way. If someone thinks in making this up, go ahead complain but i can promise you you will meet alot of finnish people who agree with me. Internet talks about all the happiness they have and that isnt too big. People have to talk about the problems more and not hide them and make it look like we have it all perfect. This isnt right and i wish people stop with this lie

@@bertta_ that's true, I am going home from school i'm a 6th grader and I have 28 hours of school every week, i'm anxious most of the time and I don't really have time to rest, I can easly have couple tests on one day but thank god that it's rare. I get a lot of homework and I don't really have friends so I don't enjoy school. I have some guy friends and I get bullied of it cuz i'm a female and I don't really hang out with the other girls in my class.

Because such a change is expensive and difficult to implement. Their general educational success comes from the focused, engaged environment that has become in-school norms. If you look at your school, your learning environment, how easy do you think it would be to set that standard of behaviour and learning so that it is still economical and doesn’t take an absurd amount of resources and time. Myself, from a country with a good education system and a good school, can’t fathom such a change. It’s exactly like prison systems in most Scandinavian countries. High security US prisons would never be able to or find it extremely difficult to implement such a system. The overall prison culture, whether that be inmate or administrative, is not open to much change and changes that can be made are costly and often have uninspiring, unsubstantial improvements to re-incarceration rates.

Recess for me went from 30 minutes in Elementary School to 10 minutes in 5th and 6th grade, and then no recess at all in the rest of my grades. No wonder I feel less connected to my friends nowadays.

Self discipline and responsibility isn't really that much of a problem

@@RoopeKoivuluoma maybe to put things in a different perspective; A) 4 times a year we had a 2 week test period, with 2-3 tests per day at least, and then there were in-between tests as well. In one year it would be well over 100 tests B) homework time needed per class, per day was about 30 minutes, not including group assignments, essays and book reviews. That's a minimum of 3 hours of homework per day, if you don't dilly-dally. C) we had whatever time you needed to go from classroom to classroom, there was a 30 minute break on a 6 hour schoolday, 45 in total on an 8 hour schoolday. Finland? Attendance wasn't mandatory (our mentor/guide literally said 'of course! It is up to you, do you want to learn and pass, or do other things and fail.' Barely any homework Awesome teachers who know their subject, and teach it in a way you understand ( it was neither teacher nor student's mothertongue) There were a few tests, but in general, the teacher knew your understanding of the subject from what had happened in class. We had 5-15 minutes in between class too, unless we had to go to a different campus. There was a 45 minute lunch break, with... free food, like... wholesome, healthy hot meals. Over here, if you want to eat, you best bring it yourself, or pay WAY too much for a crappy sandwich or deep-fried snack. Oh, sorry, nearly forgot the vending machine 😂

According to right to education act: a research was conducted in 2014 and India was found to be higher than both China and Japan and Korea in terms of hours spent in school. Not bragging, this is a serious issue and also says about why teens suicide but there are more countries than Japan.

The piano thing is so true. Almost any school that is not elementary school (1-6 grades) has a school in the aula (lobby??) Our yläkoulu (idk the word) had one, and my vocational school also has one I have yet to see a school in Turku that doesn't have a piano in the common area

I also went to a small highschool and I can relate. Everyone came along with everyone and even teachers would sit down and chat with us. We could bring dogs to school (one dog per day) with a permission. During exam weeks most were wearing lazy clothing or even pajama pants, no one cared, especially seniors were like "understandable" lol I miss our hallway discussions and jackbox games ;(

Same, no one should read this but I'll write it down anyways, school is ruining my life without a doubt. I'm currently in 8th grade, we have total of 4 units of exams for all subjects, then 3 other tests and if you get less than 60% you start over again, lastly the final exam which is based on the entire book of every subjects, including guides and other sources aside from board books. from preparing everything to extra tutioning in school and separate tutioning outside school. Then a whole bunch of assignments and home works and if you dont submit one you get punished with more work. Because I suck at math I have a separated teacher to focus on it as well, he takes exams on math and then exams from other tuitions. I get total of 2 hours a day free in 24 hours (which I'm currently in as I'm writing), sleep 5 hours and rest is academy. I'm extremely dumb academically which is why I'm more held down from my actual talents, such as drawing, singing, writing, language learning, experience new things or things I'm passionate about in general. If I ever got to experience the real day of light in Finland then I'd rather accomplish that.
