Thanks for watching!! One thing I wanted to mention but couldn’t squeeze into the video… It’s wise to design your van to have as few shifting components as possible. There are lots of vans with beds that convert into living space, or hidden showers that you need to set up every time you want to use them. This is way more inconvenient than you would think!! It’s inconvenient enough where you just never end up using that feature!! So in this van almost every component is static and I LOVE IT!!

Love the build man! I highly recommend to people getting the LWB Sprinter over the MWB now that I have built my own. If your full time living in a van and spending most of your time away from populated areas (not having to stealth camp) I couldn't recommend having the longer wheel base more. But sometimes having a shifting bed can make a lot of room in the smaller MWB for example the sliding bed in my van creates a more living space feel. Would love for you to check it out and tell me your thoughts! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LSXJtXfpU-k.html I Appreciate your videos! after all they're a big part of what inspired me to start Van life myself! I'm looking to possibly sell my van and get a long wheel base version purely because being full time, a indoor shower and the extra room is more convenient like you said!
@lightdark00
@lightdark00 2 года назад
Remember though, there are possibilities of automating changeovers, which would really give the advantage back to shifting components for more utility in less space.
@lawrencedavidson6195

Good idea. When i do my box truck build, nothing moves or needs setting up, everything will be static.
@seven_o_savage
@seven_o_savage 2 года назад
@@lightdark00 True, if all it takes is a push of a button, it reduces the annoyance level a lot. I thought about this a bit and I think it really depends on the actual feature... With the electric rising bed, the fact that it's just a button push does indeed make it very convenient. On the other hand, let's imagine a version of a bed / living space that converts with the push of a button... You're still going to have to shuffle all of the belongings in the living space and redo the bedding, which would be annoying enough to not use it every day (for me at least).

@@lawrencedavidson6195 Good thinking. With my overlander build I am keeping it as simple as possible. The more electronics and switches the more that can go wrong out in the middle of nowhere. If I want to know my water level it will have a port to view the tank directly or a remote sight glass, no electronics. My bed will be fixed, but high enough that I can put bikes or other tall items in. Heavy items on the floor to keep CG as low as possible for stability. All water lines or tanks will be inside the insulated envelope of the vehicle, nobody needs frozen pipe BS. My habitat will have 3" of foam insulation on the floor, roof to minimize heat loss in northern states or Canada. No AGM or gel batteries in my build, the system has to be significantly larger as you can only utilize about 50% of those batteries. LiFEPO batteries are lighter, have higher power densities, can utilize 80%+ of the batteries capacity and are less expensive over the life of the batteries. Best of luck with your build

As a 2-year full time vanlifer, my advice is you take your big beautiful new rig and explore every corner of this big beautiful continent. I have tried it myself, so I know. You have a "real job", so please put that first. The videos you do make will have a much higher value for your followers when you do make them, so no worries. Share your knowledge when you can, and live your life. Well played!

I personally like the seatbelt on the bench seat, and I agree it's better than no seat belt. If you wanted, you could add the typical fold-down table by the door to extend the kitchen counter. Nice conversion!

I find your videos very informative and useful. I thank you for all the work that has gone into making them. I have learned so much from them and I refer to them often. I agree with you about filming travel videos. I have traveled quite a bit and I have gotten to the point where I rarely take a photo. I have stood in beautiful locations and taken them in while all around me are trying for the perfect shot. Sometimes you have to experience something and not document it. When I stopped documenting I started enjoying the experience much more. Thank you

Congratulations! Always great to watch people like you who are willing to evaluate "old and true" buiding methods, like wood framing, sliding windows and black water tanks, and then decide against them because, with a little (or a lot of) thought, we could do so much better. 80/20 framing is the only way to go im not so ho, and even though I would do without windows, if I did use them, insulated awning windows are so much more functional than the standard rv windows. Thanks for all your informative, professional videos--and for your enthusiasm.

Congratulations! Great to see you this happy and pleased with the final product. I am especially impressed by the combination of a bed lift and a volume of free storage underneath. A very flexible solution and makes packing and unpacking way easier. Many builds have plenty of dedicated storage nooks but can't fit full-sized suitcases or duffel bags for two people.

I'm a sys admin/API tester just getting into my first promaster conversion while working remote, and if you haven't found your calling in dev yet, think about a virtual van build web or mobile app! (CAD style user input, with community driven freelance. I.e., allow it to generate labor quotes based on user-defined configs, and van builders can offer to take on the job). When I built drums in 2012, I spent months building a virtual drum kit designer for our website, and then a company called SJC drums beat us to it. Theirs was super fun to use though, and is still going strong. I'd love to see that, but for van fam!

Awesome build!!! The mini split AC with the undermount condenser is innovative. I would be concerned about rocks being kick up at the condenser and just the risk of damage. Be prepared for long term issues with the maxair fans, the motors will start squeaking and when it is cooler outside and warm humid inside water condenses on the inside of the unit and drips down on the control circuit board, you may consider taking the boards down and spraying with Conformal Coating aerosol waterproofing so nothing shorts out. The cost of the elevating bed is steep, I wonder what it would have cost to use Ball Screw Linear Actuators to raise the bed and all four stepper motors would be wired together to raise the bed at the same time. Very impressive

Your van is beautiful 😍but I have to agree with you that your tech career seems more rewarding for you and beneficial for the planet. Companies mass producing vans are getting better and better at it so they can pump out quality for one half to two thirds of the price, for example the Hymer Venture S or the Winnebago Ekko with internal tanks and vent heating for the water hookups. I have to confess that part of the reason I'd love to see you embracing your techie self is I'd love to see you teaching tech because I think you'd be amazing at it! We'll be sure to watch any travel videos you post. Our build is about 50% done but we have all the 'systems' in, so it's all cabinetry and fit and finish from here. One year down, one year to go? If you're interested in an Earthroamer, check out Wilderness Vans. They're a Canadian company doing regular vans but also 'grid' conversions of a Ford F-550 chassis. I went to visit them this summer and they are a super professional outfit, and they were selling a finished Earthroamer-style rig for $280k USD.

There's a RU-vid video where they installed the toilet in a cabinet that slides under the seat so you can move it out of the way when you are taking a shower. There's another video where the closet is can be rolled into the bathroom. Like that you save space. I would definitively do that in a van build. It is gorgeous either way. Congrats!!!

It's been great watching that van develop and I definitely got a lot of useful ideas for my own build so thank you! I know you have other plans right now but if you ever decide to move on to an electric van whenever they finally become viable I would definitely be interested to see what you come up with. Good luck with your company and happy vanlifeing!
