A great review! I do boxing training and I was not sure whether I should go for Primus Lite III or Motus. Vivo C/S team said Motus might make a better option for me due to its sturdy construction, but as I watch this review, it became all clear now. lack of flexibility and restriction of movement of Motus wouldn't serve me well. So Primus Lite III for me! Thank you for the review!

I regularly do CrossFit WODs and strength training in my Vivos (Primus Trail II FG and Primus Trail Knit FG). I absolutely love it. Not going back to Nanos and/or Metcons. These Motus are a step in the right direction for cross training.

I also use Primus trail Knit but I have to say the sole is so hard (shoes come for trail running). At the and of a WOD with rope jumps, box jumps etc.. my feet feel so bad especially the metatarsal area. So I was wondering if these motus (or the primus lite knit) will have a softer bouncing sole?

looks more sturdy than primus lite. Will defo consider those once my replacements wear down (got toe holes after 3 months). This is my problem with Vivo's: their shoes wear down mad fast for the $ but at least they honor replacement policies and warranties. They charge people so much because they included inevitable replacements and recycling into the shoe price. Heard they also sell recycled shoes as new in hopes they will hold up, so they are easy on replacements.
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 11 месяцев назад
Yes and no, I’ve been through many a pair but find the greatest amount of wear happens when I’m using them outside of their designed scope. Using the Tracker Forest ESC’s on concrete for example but as you say they’ve always been on it with replacements and the revivo (return and repair service) is top notch. Hopefully I’ll get to do a video on it at some point!

On the why shoes aren't minimal I was watching some historical shoe videos on RU-vid, in the 1810-1840's heels went away, after becoming fashionable in the 1700's. I've also took another chance on Vivo getting a pair of primus all weather which fit better over the foot and have less toe space. I think what was happening with my previous shoes is the loose fit meant they slid forward slightly which wore away the lugs after a week.

Great review man! 😌 I've been wearing barefoot shoes daily for the last 9 months, including when I play volleyball. I'm training to improve my vertical jump and hopefully dunk one day, and I've been doing so in barefoot shoes. I've had a pair of vivobarefoot primus lite III, primus trail III, Magna trail FG, and Xero 360 which have worked well. I find the narrow toe-box of typical shoes doesn't grant enough surface area when pushing through my toes during the run up for a jump. And I dont feel like i get anything from the cushioning and stack height either. I also watched your review of the Hydra ESC, and I'm wondering what you think would be a good pair for jumping outdoors on concrete. I'm using my primus trail IIIs for this at the moment, and I play volley in my magna fgs. Thanks!
@riosvalenzuela1044
@riosvalenzuela1044 11 месяцев назад
I've loved jumping in my xero 360s, and my primus trails (though at the beginning I found a bit of foot roll with these). The wear in for my magna fgs was real rough but they're great to play in. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how sustainable barefoot shoes will be for jumping but I've been using them to jump everyday for the last 9 months largely without problem. Anyway I'm curious to see what options you'd recommend I try for my next pair! My primus' are on their last legs as far as jumping goes hahaha
@TheBarefootStrengthProject

The low top tracker decons are pretty awesome for that stuff OR you could use your Primus Trail III's BUT with an extra insole (so 2 in total) to help with the impact of repeated jumping!

Hi, great reviews, sir! May I ask, what Vivobarefoot model/s do you recommend for basketball? I've bought a pair of Decon FG2 Low on 45, and they are fantastic for walking, running, but not that amazing for lateral movement.
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 4 месяца назад
Thank you! I’m not sure there is a perfect option, these (Motus) have got the best lateral support but aren’t fantastic for running and you’d be paying for a lot of features you wouldn’t need (rope knurling and heel sliders for example), the Primus lites could be an option but again, lack lateral support. No matter which way you go there probably will always be a bit of a compromise

I have pair of these, Haze Trainers and York Athletic Franks. The Motus is basically useless in mixed classes and I am in excellent shape. They are extremely poor laterally but great stationary lifting. The Haze is best overall and the Yorks superb with very athletic workouts. Overall the Motus has virtually no application for me.

What do you think about Motus and plyometric, power and speed type of workouts (with a lot of jumps and change of direction)? I have been using Primus Lite III previously and they held up pretty well, except if I accidentally slide the upper gets damaged easily and I have to be conscious of it when I am tired and technique gets sloppy. When using with Toes Spacers, toes don't slide around on change of direction movements and it gives good balance between stability and mobility. I was wondering if I should change up, but I heard Primus Lite Knit slides around on lateral movements because of their upper, but I am wondering if Motus are not too stiff and their sole would not wear out fast because of rapid side movements. As I understand Motus would be great for weightlifting and, but maybe the TYR L-1 would be more extreme version of that.
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 9 месяцев назад
Durability wise they stack up better than the Primus Lites due to the exoskeleton, the 'cup' style sole also provides a more supportive base allowing for quicker changes of direction - especially in comparison to the knits. I haven't found their soles to wear out any faster than the lites so far (after a solid year + of use). The Tyr L1 would be a heavy step towards weightlifting by comparison, definitely not suitable to any plyometric work!

Thanks, man great review! I've used Primus Lite's for a while and love them. I am looking for a pair for my lady and would love some advice. She has a wide foot and has been struggling with a Bunyon on the outside of her foot. She also has issues with a stiff handle at times from a break when she was younger. I want to get her into some Vivo's to see if it helps her in general. She's into lifting/CrossFit and a little bit of running (not long-distance mostly sub 5km crossfit stuff). Would you suggest this model or the Primus lite knit? Looks are a slight part of the equation but not the be-all and end-all. Price isn't an issue I just want to get the right thing for her as someone starting out in barefoot shoes. Any ideas? Thanks again!
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! Personally, I'd say she'll be better off with the general Primus Lite iii (not knit). It's thinner and more flexible throughout so where the motus will 'cup' your foot for lifts, she might find the higher & stiffer sole irritates her bunion. It'll also be a bit more forgiving for her running unless she's literally just doing it as part of an occasional WOD in which case they'll both be quite easily matched. But overall, I'd lean towards the Primus Lite iii for the time being. Hope that helps!
