Finally a good and calm video on the subject. I hate the typical youtube videos of some tech nerd jumping around all nervous and showing how great their equipment is. This video is very different and really well done. Thanks for that. Good job.

Great video. Sony a6400 is a great hybrid camera. I bought a6400 with 16-50 kit for travel and daily carry. Then bought Sigma 56mm for portrait and then viltrox 23mm for street. Thought viltrox 23mm doesn’t allow me to keep the camera in my pocket but your suggested lens would allow it. Still looking forward to sony’s next apsc lens . It would be great if they make a sony 23mm f/2 in pancake size.

The wide angle lenses they just came out with are actually pretty nice but like you said if they just updated their older pancake lens and made it 35mm FF equiv I’d buy it right away. I’ll always keep my a6400 but im really looking forward to seeing what the new A7C ii will offer.

yes for example canon has the amazing apsc pancake 22mm f/2.0 lens for M mount and just for that small and fast lens I'm considering getting a canon m200 or m50 and not a 6100. Such a shame Sony hasn't a small and fast lens. the 35mm f1.8 oss would be close enough but is not that small.

I have the $1k point and shoot. It's the perfect camera for me and the fastest in operation I have ever used, but I would recommend 90% of people go for something like the a6700. The Ricoh is super specialised and you have to know what you are giving up to get better niche performance. I personally wouldn't want to lose the amazing UX design and shooting modes, but if you haven't experienced that and don't know what you're missing: 100% just go for the awesome specs of the Sony. It will get you what you need with ease, and is wayyyy more versatile. ✌️

I've been using the Sony a1 for street photography for about a year now. It's the best street photography camera IMO, and that's all down to the silent 20fps lossless compression raw with no rolling shutter. That gives me top concealment while capturing all the actions.

Began with a NEX-6 and then on to the a6000 and the 20mm which is constantly on it. Although I also take more kit with me sometimes, like the 35 f1.8 on the a6400 or even the Zeiss 55 on the A7R 2, the first combo always comes along in a pocket (no strap) and shot from the waist with the screen out.

It's funny because yesterday I was just thinking about buying another camera (Fuji XT3, or XT30 II) & just using my a6400 for filmmaking. Yeah and if you need to see more examples, there is about 50 photos in my last video about the cinebloom filter all taken with the samyang + cinebloom 10%. They came out super nice. I think I’ll switch to fuji when they start putting more emphasis on specs (better AF, etc.) Almost bought the xe-3 but when i held it i was shocked how light and non-premium it felt. almost like a toy. nonetheless im interested to see what will come after the 100v because that’s probably the only one i would consider buying.

really great video. i’m primarily a video guy and upgraded to the A7s iii from the a6500 over a year ago and the a6500 mostly collects dust now. i’ve always been interested in an X100 series camera for every day slice of life photography also. i’ve been super conflicted. i have the funds for the X100V but it’s still tough to justify when the a6500 can do nearly everything (and some things better) than the fuji, plus being able to swap lenses when needed. i hadn’t really thought about throwing a pancake lens on it and using it for stuff like this til now which is funny. i do think there’s something to be said for the form factor and feel of the X100V. the sony isn’t a very inspiring camera for me to use personally… but is it worth $1300? not sure lol. i may just pick up a compact lens and stick with what i got. great food for thought!
@xhynetuseinovski
@xhynetuseinovski Год назад
I’ve always looked at it the most simplistic way possible, especially for street photography i.e. many years ago the greatest photographers were inspired by the art itself, not the cam not the lens. Film stock was film stock. Getting out and shooting was the spark to ignite the flame. Fujis marketing point is simply color stocks and aesthetic look/feel. Sony kills it in almost every other category. But what Id say is at the end of the day whatever gets you out to shoot is what matters and if its gear than thats fine. Get out there with whatever cam suits you and capture the world beautifully. I’d get one of these smaller samyangs though and it will definitely make you fall in love with the a6500 again. I have with mine and it has been a wonderful experience. Thanks for the thoughtful comment my friend 🙏🏻

@angelsjoker8190
@angelsjoker8190 10 месяцев назад
Yeah, I've always wondered why they got rid of the flash after the a6500. Having it was one of the reaons I got that one (used) over the newer a6400 or a6600. It's pretty neat to have it for indoor indirect flashing. I don't need a flash very often, so I don't want to carry a clunky extra flash with me all the times, in particular when traveling and trying to keep the weight down, so having it built in for just in case is a big plus even if it's not super powerful.

I have both lenses. The Sony produces slightly better colors. It also has a hair better sharpness in the center. But the corners are slightly softer with a very light, vignette. I typically edit my photos to look like film after shooting slightly and the Sony produces much better results for that. It may be an older lens now, but I believe people slept on it, because the 16mm was so bad. If you look at comparisons, people always said the 20 mm was much better. I’m going to make a video on it and compare it to my Fujifilm x100. I still take the a6000 with the 20 mm Sony pancake lens over the Fujifilm. Also, you can find them on eBay for half that price.

Hi, I Could NOT AGREE MORE WITH YOU ON THE SONY A6XXX as a top street photography camera. A couple of years ago, I owned a Nex 6 and loved it for its compactness, ergonomy, handling and its rangefinder-like viewfinder. After that came several Fuji , with significant improvements in IQ. But none gave me the same shooting experience as the nex6, by far. Then, pushed by a significant decrease of its price, I bought a SONY A6300, because it has exactly the same form factor and ergonomy as the nex6, but with a much, much higher IQ. Like you, I got a Samyang 24mmf2.8 and, since then, enjoy again street photography with that lightweight, unobtrusive and discrete combo. As you say, it is an perfect tool to do that. However, affected by the "I want something even better" syndrome, I have just acquired the Samyang 24f1.8, somehow longer and heavier than the f2.8, but really sharper and also weather sealed. Even with the resulting loss of compactness, the gain in optical performance brought by the Samy 1.8 makes for me the ultimate street camera, which I have to confirm on the long term. In the meantime, I will preciously keep my Samy 2.8!
@xhynetuseinovski
@xhynetuseinovski 2 года назад
Dude I didn't even know the Nex6 existed. Does the 1.8 feel less plastic-y or is made of the same materials?
@francisfrankenne9020

@@xhynetuseinovski Actually, before the a6000, Sony released two vf nex: the 6, 16mio pixels, and the 7, 24mio pixels and more professional., I didn't jump on the a6000 when it poped up because the viewfinder was of a much lower quality than the nex6 one. To me, the Samy 24f1.8, has a very similar aspect than the 2.8.the question is: are the Samyang lenses reliable enough? I would say yes for 99 % of users. If I were to go to an expedition in the Kamshankat, I would rather choose more rugged lenses. That said, I own 3 f1. 8 Samy lenses and they really deliver great pictures at a fraction of the price of other brands.

@francisfrankenne9020
@francisfrankenne9020 2 года назад
@@xhynetuseinovski These samyang lenses improve significantly at each generation at all levels: optical performances (according to many reviewers, see Dustin Abbot videos), build quality (weather sealing, mount ring now made from stainless steel, previously from aluminium) and features (multi-purpose button and switch). Add to that a 5 year garantie ( in EU at least) and a much competitive price. To me, it's a no brainer case fro an amateur to get a set of quality glasses at a price which is a fraction of the "big" Brand offer. Strangely enough, many reviewers tend to ignore more or less the Samyang lenses.

The Samyang 35mm f2.8 is as small and a lot sharper than the 24mm. Great little lens! But that would give a focal length of 52mm on an aps-s camera, which I like more than the 35mm field of view.

How is Sony Alpha 5100 for street photography?
@xhynetuseinovski
@xhynetuseinovski Год назад
Probably ok for hobby work, but no EVF, mode dial, or good autofocus from the a6400 so I’d rather find a used A6300 or A6400. If you can’t, go for the original A6000.
@samuel-beek

Do you feel like f2.8 is fast enough? I own the 24mm/1.8 zeiss. The glass is great but the lens is big
@xhynetuseinovski
@xhynetuseinovski Год назад
In 98% of cases it works perfect (for me). I shoot daytime and golden hour and after that I’m done shooting. It requires more ISO indoor and after golden. It’s not a bokeh beast but its enough (again, for me). I shoot street and documentary photos so 9times/10 it gets the job done. Value for the money on this lens is fantastic.

@@xhynetuseinovski Thanks a lot for the reply :). I'm going to consider it as a replacement, as it's a lot tiny-er. I really don't get why so many e-mount lenses are so big. Fuji has much smaller and faster lenses for whatever reasons (like the Fujinon 23mm)

Today I just tried a6400 for street photography. Been spending several weeks trying to find a tool... You forgot to mention one pro of Sony: it doesn't get heated or warm after being turned on for quite some time, which is probably the opposite case for Fuji and Ricoh, I've seen quite some people talking about the warm body issue, which happens when turning on camera and not even shooting videos! Oh, and why there are not many videos/people discuss such a huge weakenss! Thank you for discussing about using Sony for street photos. Finally I find a solution
