I have been playing tanks almost exclusively since 2017. NB, DK, Templar are my favorites - Necro and Sorc close behind. I struggle with Warden. I have an Arcanist, but have not used him for serious content yet. You, sir, are without a doubt the best source on the internet for esoteric tanks! I commend you!
Hey great guide - was wondering why you dropped the "typical skill setups" section - got alot of value out of that as it was really good for the thought process behind skill selection, helped me make my own setups a ton!
Yay, ty for this! It's nice to have an updated version of last year's guide, which was very useful for building my torc. Used the DK guide too for the IA build too 🙂, which has absorption field instead of magma shell. Not exactly immortal but the dispel aoes and heal are very nice
yeah, but i think he put it on helm and shoulder as a general guide since you will often be running 2 heavy sets and the monster helm can be customized to any weight
FWIW as an experienced console raider, it's pretty common as a tank for me to quickly swap skills between trash and boss fights. It's obviously not as fast as if I had add-ons but there are ways to make it faster along with practice Edit: especially if doing score or trifecta runs

Awesome guide as always. Just wondering the gear you recommend in pug trials, would these be the same set ups you’d use for all tanks now? Or sorc only?

Are Reduce Skill Cost enchants still best for trash packs now that we have Leashing Soul? The only skills you are really using that are stamina based are razor caltrops and shield bash, plus maybe puncture. Also it would be greatly appreciated if you could show a trial trash gear setup as it seems like it should differ from the trial boss setup.
I am here for the hybridization bash that started 2.5 years ago and didn't finish yet Edits: I agree, stars have to align for the shield throw morph, its definitely even less useful than torchbearer.
I get a fair bit of use out of it - i use evasion instead of main tho. If a healers using Ele sus and you have another source of minor breach (Sundered, Chilled procs in wall) then i drop pierce armour for goading throw. Lets me stand in alot of stupid.....dont know if thats good for getting better at tanking tho :D
Hey Hyper, thanks for the video. Which scribing skills would u personally use on a necro tank. Soul leash is a no brainer, what about others if any. I’m meaning your necro tank setup for console users as a base
You can replace Defensive Stance with Ulfsild's Contingency (damage shield/gladiator's tenacity/intellect and endurance) or Soul Burst (damage shield/ulti-gen or purge/courage). They're both very good but if you're sticking to one setup it's hard to fit them all. Coud also replace Resolving Vigor since Necro will be getting Minor Resolve from their Bone Armor soon but then again Resolving Vigor's heal over time is really strong.
does the barrier script actually apply signature and affix scripts to allies? the tooltip states that you apply them to you OR an ally while the healing script states that it applies them to you AND allies so I assumed that this distinction was intentional however zos's tooltips aren't always accurate so without having it tested myself i'm not sure what to believe here
Thanks for the great guide! But where are major and minor breach on bosses in dungeons and trials coming from if you use an ice staff instead of 1h&s with pierce armor?
They're not in-game tooltips, they're from eso-hub and they're edited (with inspect element) to add the coefficients which I get from esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkillCoef.php
Look at setup at 56:36 and replace: -Wield Soul with Silver Leash -Soul Burst and Ulfsild's Contingency with 2 from the following: Revealing Flare, Defensive Stance, Crystal Weapon
AoE pull isn't bad but its issue is that it's tied to the Soul Burst grimoire, which is better used on the (Damage Shield/Ulti-Gen or Purge/Minor Courage) combination. Using Soul Burst for AoE pull would lock you out of this.
