This thing sounds so good and it's so powerful that it's effectively raising the bar for what will be considered a great plugin. The EQ curves, the saturation, the dynamic function and the transient/tone split, the M/S balance, they all sound amazing and are integrated in the UI in an intuitive and efficient way. And last but not least complete gain staging controls and the presets also come with automatic input gain staging to work as intended with one click. This can probably replace 2 or 3 plugins in an ITB mastering chain.
Tone Projects never disappoints. :D It's mind-blowing how 'analog' they can get these plugins to sound, and this is a rare achievement in the software realm.
Yep. For me it’s just them, Kush, Acustica and Softube. Some of Arturia’s stuff is fantastic too. (And if I don’t add UAD someone will take it personally and have an aneurysm. 😂)
@@sub-jec-tiv UAD could definitely do with trying to get their plugins closer. Many of them sound very close, but there's some that could do with improvement. Like the 1073 sounds good, but could be a lot closer than it is. The newer 1084, albeit different, sounds noticeably more analog to me, especially on vocals.
Tone projects and acustica are the best. This Michelangelo is a masterpiece but Acustica plugins are kind of IR impulse. Sound 3D the same as analogue. Just a little bit tricky to work with them and very CPU intensive.
A superb showcase, David, thank you! I installed the trial version but this is a keeper! It has a stellar tone of course, but it's immediately rewarding as you can clearly hear what it's doing (not always the case with plugins) and it is SO user-friendly. Practice makes perfect of course, but I will enjoy the journey with this one! 👏👏👏
Yea this EQ after owning a License is my number one plugin already. Its so freaking musical and to my Ears the first Plugin that is capable of getting a more 3D sound like Hardware can do. Ofcourse i never heard the hardware unit but man! This one is absolutely Beast! Great vid David and thanks!
💥💥Wow! I see why this thing is called Michelangelo : you can sculpt sound, paint frequencies, and more, and in a dynamic way too! Easily the most interesting plugin I've seen (and heard) for years! Gotta get it now Shit! 🤣And thanks David : you're the best at demonstrating all the possibilities of both hardware and plugins. Have a great day! ☀☀
This is another jump for plugin quality. Maybe plugins will do it one day. Maybe then only being beaten by personally modded analogue. Digital has done it well enough that hybrid has become a more common studio setup than full analogue.
This was quickly adopted into my workflow!! Such an amazing tool!! Of course the base material is amazing!! Props to you and Bella for the path you’re paving! 💪
Hey David. Great review of this amazing plugin. Have you looked into Acustica Audio's new plugin Pumpkin Pro? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the great work brother!
It should be in your account. If you bought it, it's a different installer than the demo. Download that from your account and the license should also be there
@@mixbustv haha, yeah I'll be sure to get it before the intro ends if the full bundle doesn't go on sale! (Last year I think they did a side wide 40% off, so I'm secretly hoping on that)
@@mixbustv I saw on their social media yesterday that the bundle will go on sale and the Michelangelo EQ is going to stay at the intro price. So I am going to buy all of the stuff mhuahah! 🔥 Thanks for the reply!

I'm not talking about you selling your own product, that's great and fine. But how you overly are trying to sell a plugin is a bit of a joke. @@mixbustv
@@OlaB245 I'm selling? Where's my plugin store? I'm showing people plug-in, you know why companies pick me to show people like you how to use plugins? Because I'm a mix engineer, because I'm good at it, and I don't need to sell anything because that's my job. And because I'm good at it my time ain't free. The joke is people who think it would be
@OlaB245 Knowledge is not about searching our opinion and comforting our ego. It's about absorbing and acquiring. Have an open and free mind brother. Music is the only place we all can unite and be one. 😊
Yet companies pay me to show no rate success wannabes like you how to use it, in fact, you're here watching and wishing you were winning lol while I'm here making money doing this and you're probably in your basement 👍 how's the battle in your head going?
I had this one on my buy list and was wondering why you hadn’t yet made a video about it! Glad you did David. I love straight forward powerful plugins and this one is a must buy!
oh even dynamic processing 🔥 . It's literally enhancing the entire sonic of what ever goes through. Very Powerful tool for adding rich color spectrums to frequencies in master and sound design. Definitely pick this up!
David, since you're big fan of Dreamer 1976 multiband saturation unit (on synths for example), can Michaelangelo EQ replace Drawmer (with no EQ engaged just saturation triode/pentode knobs and particular bands engaged/disangaged)? What do you think? Can you make a video when you compare saturation of Drawmer and Michaelangelo EQ? Much appreciated. Thanks
Nothing does what Basslane can do really, especially if you have to fix problems, Leap is more an enhancing tool. Both great, I wouldn't call them interchangeable
Incredible ! Mastering in the box makes more and more sense when you see this EQ/Mojo box, the Unissum compressor and the Weiss Suite by Softube. All we need is a varimu compressor from Tone Projects to complete the arsenal. This is a blessing for engineers who are starting out, they can focus on buying the best monitoring system and get Great results with these tools !
hi David, i'm using it now for 10 Days with the demo and the Low end ! you are right is impressive, this Eq can t sound bad, it s never harsh, always sounding good even with all the pots to 0 . I will buy it at the end of the Demo. I did visit kush website yesterday and they release the Q632 EQ and if michelangelo is an amazing colored eq, Q632 is certainly the best clean and transparent eq, it supposed to sound like 9000 $ mastering Eq and the sound is amazingly Clear i would really like you to check it and review it... thanks for your youtube channel with the best Pro Audio plug ins and hardware reviews for sure... We need you...
I have tried many plugins and Tone Projects library blew me away. They sound the most analog and I own a good amount of analog gear. I love Salt by Acoustica audio I bought recently too after seeing your video. Digital tools are getting better and that’s exciting to see this. I recommend Leapwing Audio too if you don’t already own some of their items. Super great effective tools
Such a fantastic plugin. the only feature i think would be useful is some solo buttons (at least for the two additional dynamic EQ bands) so you can really dial them in for problem areas
You can hold Shift to solo the band pre processing. Note that the solo'ed signal is a simplified approximation of the actual band curve. I took that line from the manual.
This sht is insane, mind bogglingly good. And through RU-vid degradation. Can't imagine how good it sounds on actual records and while doing the work 🔥
i think i will stop watching your videos, and just straight put the plugins you review on my shopping list. better will spend these 26 minutes earning money so i won't get broke
All Tone Project products are crazy good i haven't tried this one but rest of em are always on my mastering chain, I would like to see more videos mixing and less talking , there are no words that can substitute a performance
Thanks…I’m fortunate enough to to be considering buying a real one…considering it’s a designed for mastering. What would you advice? Plug-in or real deal@@mixbustv
Mh.. I think the hardware is great machine, yet I'd still want to have the plugin for the dyn eq and the extras. If you do get the hw really think how you're gonna use it because there are several options, for mastering I'd want switches first of all and MAYBE the 1/3 range mod but I'd prefer if it was 1/2 instead of 1/3 because it might be too subtle.
@@mixbustv good points…for me the air band and aggression knob are what I like the most. The saturation on this unit is really pretty compelling in the tests I’ve heard…Getting a good crest, filling in those gaps in terms of dynamics and adding the beef. The air band is sweet. Detented and full range is what I’d want…but I’m torn of tube vs SS. I have lots of tube gear already. Soma, and a few of Vari-mu comps. Don’t know.
@@mixbustv I tested them both, I know that their technologies are different, just they have approximately the same price, and I would like to have them both before the prices increase lol forced to choose lol 🙃
@@dexterconTone Projects all day every day twice on Sundays, it’s not even close. Relab’s Maselec is a clean digital EQ, it generates no harmonics whatsoever and it’s ‘sound’ comes from the curves and the curves alone. You can null it with any other clean digi eq (FF, Kirchoff, Izotope, STOCK etc)… The premise being that you’d never just make those curves lol, who am I to stop you from spending your money on a fixed pointed clean digi eq in 2023…. But this Tone Projects one is a masterpiece (and also just way more than an eq lol)
I understand, I was referring to the ability to warm things up via the harmonic generator, where things just sound better by passing through it...I had a mind fart...🙄
