Recently, I have been posting videos of some really vintage portables like the Sony 2001D and 7600DS. Well today, I'm posting about a radio that is a mere 11 years old, dating back to 2013. It's a good radio too, particularly for its audio . This is due to its high quality audio amplifier and clever use of a small baffled speaker similar to a Bose.
The RF side is pretty good too . It is triple conversion using PLL and DSP. Lately it has been superseded by the Tecsun PL990. Most observers have stated that there isn't all that much difference between them. I'm going to stick to my 880!
Good on all bands, the station concerned on this video is The veteran broadcaster, the Voice of Vietnam , putting out a great signal in English on 11885khz around 19.00utc , using the sets telescopic aerial in rural Sussex. The first part of the video uses a 5khz bandwidth and the second 3.5khz to cope with the adjacent channel interference from AWR Madagascar on 11.880. I think that they both sound pretty good.
I think that the PL880 is still worth buying and is readily available. 73 and GDX.
