I tried one out at Guitar Center and loved the feel of the neck. They had it on sale for $299. Went back the next day and grabbed it before someone else did. After a quick setup it plays as good as my Plekd Fender Player Strat. Definitely a steal!
Fender has improved and upgraded nearly the entire Squier range. The updated Affinity series specs, build quality and price points are especially noteworthy. Great job Fender! 👍👍👍
I just picked up a seafoam green one in person at sweetwater. I've been playing since the late 70's This guitar is amazing and since it was a demo, I got it for a great deal.
Don't ask me how but I just got the same model/colour via Thomann for £100 less than a lot of other places are selling it for, even in their Black Friday offers. Crazy bargain!
My Classic vibe 50’s from 2012, white with anodised scratch plate was the best playing guitar I’ve ever owned, only guitar I’ve ever regretted selling, and I’ve sold a load of guitars in my time. I’ve owned Gibsons, US Fenders and a US PRS Mira
Only guitar I regretted selling was my blue G and L strat. I was almost in tears when I let it go it's probably somewhere in French Polynesia now, but it was one of three guitars I had to sell in order to get my AM Pro One strat.
Find one if you can bro. I had a 2016 Chinese classic vibe 50s strat that I beat myself up for selling. Funny enough, 4 years later, I found a 2018 Chinese classic vibe 50s strat in the same color that sounds and plays just like my old one!!! The Chinese classic vibes are INFINITELY better than the Indonesian ones. I hate the Indonesian new classic vibes, they feel and sound dead in comparison to the Chinese ones. I bought an Indonesian CV and hated it and played many. But yeah man, find another Chinese classic vibe and jump on the deal when you see one! Best of luck!
I have two fender classic vibe 60s strat model guitars. Of course I switched out the pickups on both of them. I just purchased a fender American professional II, and I always go back to the classic vibes,go figure. Great guitars. People are always commenting how great they sound and then they see it’s a squire and are amazed.
@@mslenthall Hey Man, I have one with a set of Lollar Dirty Blondes. Fantastic all around pickups, and one with a set of Klein Jazzy Cats (John Mayer the Black One Clones). Also it's a must to change out the electronics. the stock wiring not as stellar and I would like. My 2 Cents.
My '94 Squier is sexy as chit! Had it since I was 12 years old, I am 39 years old, upgraded tuners, upgraded big block tremolo bridge, upgraded roller trees, upgraded American Steel flat saddles, Lindy Fralin loaded, completely refinished in buttercream / TV yellow color! its ONE of a kind now!
@@thorpenator9148 dude, the frets suck. I tried to put a new neck on there, but my Squire body neck pocket is abnormally big.. Huge bummer. But it is sweet
I am 100% with you, this is hands down the prettiest of this Squire range. I don't need another Strat, & I don't own a squire...but this certainly is a very tempting guitar to try & source for a 'deal maker' price. Awesome playing & amazing touch. Looks effortless. Some really beautiful runs & likes there I'd really like to steal...if only I had the ability. I'm envious. Also, I don't think 'sloppy seconds' was quite the descriptive choice you ment to say ha ha.
Sure the guitar is just downright gorgeous. I love the way it looks, the color mix between the body & the pickguard, and the fretboard seems so smooth with glossy roasted maple enhancing the organic tone caught by the pickups. It will surely boost your playing.
Did John say it was a roasted neck? I must’ve missed that. Certainly doesn’t look as pale as the maple necks I’m used to seeing on Squiers, but I’d be surprised if it’s a roasted neck on a guitar at that price.
I have a the sea foam green one and mine is great! I got mine via reverb from pro audio star for 299.99 shipped! It plays and feels as good as my players strat to! Great playing BTW!
That’s my guitar! Yeah, it was love at first sight, and I couldn’t resist the prices these were selling for at the beginning of December. We’ve even inseparable ever since. It’s a perfect fit for my humble abilities, taking the place of (at least temporarily) a 2000 Les Paul Historic I’ve been playing for 20 years. Great to see what this humble Squier is capable of in the hands of an expert. Thank you. I think the build quality of mine is a little cleaner, although I was having trouble with the nut causing some tuning issues, but that seems to be sorting itself out the more I play it. I love the pickups. They really are producing those classic Strat tones I was looking for when I bought this. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time.
Great playing John , I purchased a classic vibe a few years ago ( Sherwood green) with matching headstock and its as good as it gets , squier is killing the market on affordable guitars .
I’ve watched maybe 50+ videos of yours, that legato playing at the beginning of this vid was outstanding, some of your best. That guitar sounds damn good too. If I didn’t already have to many I’d consider buying one.
Glad to see you bring this guitar out! I purchased the tele version in emerald green. Can’t find a single flaw except! Except a buzz that I can’t locate what’s causing it. It’s hardware towards the bridge. Other than that it’s an exceptionally well made guitar for $359 purchased direct thru @Fender. I really like how well it plays and it looks great. Same gold anodized pic guard. Great price
Got mine today. Sounds killer. The look and feel of it reminds me a lot of an SE Silver Sky I played in a shop recently. Love the neck and pickups. A couple of high frets and the nut’s cut a little shallow. Both fixable. I’m happy.
I just got a Squier classic Vibe 60s Stratocaster for Christmas and it sounds exactly like the real 60s Strat tone I've been missing in all my other frankenstrat guitars does the SRV "Lenny" thing in it's sleep. Same pickups as the 40th anniversary I believe. I love the way the neck feels and the way the guitar plays. After I did a full setup on it, it holds tune perfectly and plays great. Feels great in the hand. And the gold understated vintage spaghetti logo on the headstock does not scream "Cheap Squier" looks very much Fender from a distance :-)
@@christopherjbutlerHow do you feel it compares comparatively to the squier vintage 40th edition? I played the vintage today and the way it felt in my hand was so frigging good. I wonder if the classic vibe feels the same way
@@christopherjbutlerYAY!!! i hope you enjoy it when you get home. I’m actually my debut as an alt rock artist next year because I wanna start gigging. And really want something that gives me the sound I want that’s artistic as well. The shell pink is calling my name for sure
My first guitar, which I still have, was a 90's era Korean made Squier with a humbucker in the bridge. Love that guitar, but never really had a desire for a more classic strat with the three single coil setup. Then, I saw this model in a local shop, 30 years later. MAN this is a good guitar!!!
I just bought the 40th Vintage two tone burst. Sounds awesome, very 'stratty'! Also on my gear binge I've purchased your preset bundle...my gosh there's some good stuff in there!! Thanks for what you do and making it so accessible.
I’m happy with my Squier 2016 HH modern Tele which I got last year for around 300 USD… Before then I assembled a 2019 Fender Player Stratocaster with locking trem … Zero issues with any of them… (except for the Floyd 😂) both played wonderfully.
I bought mine a few weeks ago ( same color ) , and i was thinking about maybe modding / upgrading a few bits when i went to the musicstore , but after a good set up at home this guitar plays and sounds just as good as the many american made fender strats i have had in my live ( including an fender cs strat ) , it's funny the older i get ( 60 now ) the less i value all of that marketing / branding BS . I spend a lot off money ( like many others i guess ) on the hype created by smart business people , but those day's are over , finally : )
Yep. The paramagnetic Al in that thickness creates eddy currents in the pickup coils that cause a -2dB shelf above 1kHz, and also an eddy current reaction to the flux lines from the strings that further reduces the upper-mids. The result is a more "liquid" tone, but there may also be some subtle microphonic effects from the pickguard vibrations
I got the same model, sunburst wide finish. Guitar is special, resonating superb, thin satin finish feel like road worn/nitro strat. It got that woody tone, I like it more than my Am Standard Strat.
I no longer buy Squiers, sold them all except for one CV FSR Tele Esquire because they’re just to good for the money and with my OCD I’d end up with a house full. I saw this model in a shop today and I was extremely impressed with the neck and fingerboard. If I’d a guitar like this back in the mid 80s I’d have been a happy puppy. I’m not too sure about the matt finish and alloy plate but it’s an awesome guitar. The neck is thicker than the Square CV guitars too is it?
A few months ago on a whim I bought a new Squier CV 60's Strat for 240.00 USD and I like it better than the two American Standard Strats I sold. It's also better, but not as cool as the '78 Strat I used to have.
Love your playing! Been shopping around for the right guitar and this felt like the most bang for my buck of my options, and this video helped me decide. Thanks 🙂
I have a 2019American Pro Strat, beautiful to play, but Cani find faults yes and is the trem system good not it’s craft for the price, but I’ve locked it down, and like I say playing wise in tone wise love the noise less pickups, but😊that squirrel sound fantastic, this generation is bless with the quality they get for the money today, great video as always
I have this guitar. It’s had a PLEK and will eventually get Lollar 64s. I also have the 40th vintage seafoam JM PLEKed with Lollar JMs in it. They’re both outstanding guitars.
If they are so,hot why are you putting Lollars in them? It’s like saying my Camaro is the so fast and is the best but I’m putting a corvette engine in it.
@@bluwng The stock pickups in both guitars are very good but I want (what I perceive) are the best I can get. That’s why I replaced the pickups in my JM and that’s why Lollar stays in business. People do that, even with expensive Gibsons. I still have the stock ones in my strat.
@neonthunderbirdI have a Vintage Modified Tele (the one with the JM neck pu) and that Jazzer is the highest perceived-volume pickup I've encountered, in addition to sounding authentic. It's glorious, but the catch is it can't be lowered from the strings, so it's difficult to pair unless you commit to a really angry bridge coil
@neonthunderbird I replaced it with a Fender period specific ('63?) issue and it matches output but lacks the harmonics and enthusiasm of the stock offering. Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan or some such it is, I guess
Those guitars are so much for the money you pay. The only issue on the old 2009 models I think were the pickups and the electrics. Dunno how they feel on the newer models. But I swapped the pickups with Fokin classic S pickups and now that guitar is the "stratiest" strat of all strats I own.
Got the exact one yesterday. $499 CDN. Incredible piece of work. Have a '57 CV (China) sunburst and this sounds quite different even tho the electronics are the same. LOVE the neck. Matte finish on the body is genius. Haven't even tried it thru my Traynor YCV40 valve amp yet, but it know it will be brilliant. Can't put it down.
I have no need for another Strat nor normally would have looked at Squier, but I'm a sucker for the gold anodized pick guard that led me to buying the ultra Texas tea. I saw online somewhere there have been reports of the anodized pick guard having some feedback issues with live amps apparently, but that Fender hasn't really addressed it other than saying switch to a plastic pick guard. No issues myself though!
How is the bridge saddles on these I’ve heard the grub screws on the b and high e stick up and are not ideal for resting your hand Awesome 😎 review and I think the 2 tone wide burst is killer sexy
I saw an tried this guitar at a local shop and now i wanna buy it so badly😂 that s why i m here searching for some reviews etc. Such a nice guitar and at a decent price💪🏼
@@dyziu1174 i like it very much, it s probably the best squier i ve ever tried. I m not a pro musician, nor an expert in guitar features, but for that price i find it awesome. Nice bright tone to play fusion, funky, blues, chill lofi, etc. It s more similar to the classic strato sound than other squier i ve tried. Anyway with the right plug-in today you can have almost every sound/tone you want
Better than the Mascis JM? Hmm. I have that one and love it. Those pickups would probably come a bit more to life with new wiring and CTS pots upgrade. They already sound good.
I think the sharp edges are a regular thing with Fender unless rolled fret ends are on the spec sheet. Over time, they soften with playing. Squire tend to issue some amazing limited editions, but they are a red herrings that do not represent the overall quality of the lower ranges. This one, made in Cor-Tek’s factory in Indonesia is probably at the level if not above the Mexican stuff.
hey john great playing as always! i use a squier bullet strat in daphne blue! ur tones on this video are really the best especially with the bridge pickup i was just wondering if ur also using the eric lead patch for this video?
I picked up yamaha revstar standard before because of you. And now this guitar already on the way here. Jeez John, please stop with the guitar recommendation lol
I'm lucky enough to have some nice guitars. I bought a squier on a whim just because I liked the look of it. Black tele esquire for £299. It came really badly set up but once sorted plays brilliantly, so happy I bought it... no sharp frets would happily buy another. Awesome and enjoyable review as always.
note - might be a good alternative to the Squier Classic vibes. when i tried the CVs at Guitar Center the lacquered necks were definitely sticky to me. Even though reviews said that they could ignor the stickiness - go to the guitar store and slide your hand against both - that will tell you. in the summer your hands get hotter and sweatier! good luck
I ordered 3 from Thomann. The first one had a small crack in the handle. the second seemed to have been cut with a knife at the rounded edges. The third has a good finish, I kept it, but the most surprising thing is the difference in weight between the models. A difference of 700 grams (1.54324 pounds) between the first and the third. Is it a good sign to have more weight?
Hello and thanks for what you do. I'm sorry my English is so bad, but I'm Spanish and I don't write very well. If you had to choose a strat? Of these two potions. Squier 40th Sire S7 Larry Which one would you stay with? Thank you very much for everything and forgive my English.
I see a few issues with squiers, even classic vibes. I had problems QC wise (around 2019/2020), dinged finishes (I ordered the purple Pete telecaster CV from Anderton's and believe the ding was from factory) Poor quality hardware, okay-ish woods, all scratched up finishes, and just general downgrades from the previous ones made in china imo. The pickups sound great, that's an improvement I think. I think the best bang for the buck fenders are the classic series. I got one a few years ago, I love this strat, proper woods, proper hardware, just changed the pickups and that's it. Fit and finish is perfect
I have a Squier FSR Custom Tele Classic Vibe Baritone . Nice guitar...while you can still get a new Squier baritone for under $500-USD I paid $579 for mine due to the custom color (purple sparkle). I tend to think any guitar in your hands will sound great ! p.s....just saw a recent video on Andertons UTube page....and apparently Chris Buck's playing a Yamaha Revstar. Really digging those guitars....
Would you take that over the Ibanez AZES40? Pros and cons out of each, since your last video you mentioned you would go for the AZES40 over a Fender Player Strat, curious to know your take! Thanks!
Way better than most of non American Fenders out there, and waaaay cheaper, this is the guitar you shoulda get if you want top quality for an unbeatable price!! 👏
I HATE the newer Indonesian guitars from Squiers as well as epiphones. Although, I had a sea foam green 40th and hated it, but have a sonic blue 40th and LOVE it. The quality control is horribly inconsistent on the Indonesian guitars nowadays unfortunately, you really have to try them out before you buy. I also have a Chinese epiphone les Paul custom pro silverburst which is AWESOME! Any guitar you buy, you should ALWAYS try it first. NEVER BUY ONLINE, unless it’s a VERY specific guitar that you want that you don’t live near or something like that. Other than that, it’s worth it to try a guitar in person to make sure you love it.
I picked this one up today in the guitar store and it felt so good in my hands I could have played for hours. The only problem is it isn’t in pick. I keep wanting to between this and the 60s classic vibe in pink. this is SOOO SEXY. What do you suggest or feel?
that particular model in sonic blue, gold p/ guard and cream plastics is a gorgeous combination..you wont regret buying it over pink. the tinted neck is also a big draw card. definitely the nicest squier ever, i agree & glad i bought one, even tho i didnt need it,aka GAS panick
