The Jagwire links are creaky, I've used them in the past because they were lightweight but they become annoying after a while. I agree on the coloured housing, it makes it look front heavy. It's funny to see tour bikes at 7.5 kg with top of the line components and a steel bike dipping below 7kg on a limited budget. Very nice build, looking forward to the upgrades.

You got some really nice bikes there:) But there are two things I would consider changing: with the first being a setback seatpost, as your saddle seems to be setup on the "edge" of collapsing, especially if its a carbon railed one. And the second thing would be the inconsistent setup of your handlebars and shifters over the many different bikes you have. The bdhu-police from lfgss might be coming for you if you leave them like that;)

Hi, I've already commented here somewhere but I'm unable to find it, so here I go again. In the meantime I've followed your example and fitted the exact same fork to my old steel frame. Since I'm on a budget I've used the FSA Orbit X1 as a headset. My "issue" now is, that the fork flexes quite a lot while breaking, and I mean a lot a lot. At the moment I consider to just put the old steel fork back in and use a thingy which allows me to fit my ahead setup to a threaded fork. All in all my question is, is this flex expected or is the headset maybe faulty or even the fork? I would appreciate some insight.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for bringing this up. To be honest i didnt observe any bigger flex in my setup but i also dont have a direct comparison to a steel fork so maybe i just got used to it. Unfortunately i am traveling now and will only be back reunited with my steel bike around end of November to check.

It would have been useful if you had given the size of the frame and posted the original weight of the frame and fork and the weight saving of the new fork. Just claiming that you built a 7kg steel bike doesn't tell us a whole lot.
@klein-concept

I know but unfortunately i have build this one before i even considered to start a youtube channel. I might be getting the frame repainted again and will then give the frame a weigh with and without paint. 🤜🤛 The size is a 55 by the way.

Most weight you wasted by some determinations you did not mention besides a steel frame. You wanted 11-speed Shimano and tubeless wheels. There for you had to buy a lot of carbon and titanium parts. And why weight without pedals?
@klein-concept
@klein-concept Год назад
That its true. I definitely want the 11 speed but actually consider to go 1x. For the wheels I m a bit more flexible. Want to give some lightweight inner tubes a try. In regards to the weight without pedals. It is just something i noticed that most manufacturers or when people share their specs they talk about weight without pedals. So wanted to keep it comparible.
@michaeljohl4669
@michaeljohl4669 Год назад
So, it is not so much about saving weight ? If it is about saving weight consider 45-50mm tubular carbon rim break wheels like Corima Aero + or Camapagnolo Boras.

@@michaeljohl4669 thanks Michael. never thought about tubular as i somehow think they might be really high maintenance when setting up but your comment makes me wanna do some research.

Is there another way to get a super light bike? You either gotta buy a new one built by the factory, take a risk with a C used one or build your own which is pretty damn cool. So what's the point of your comment? He did it in a thoughtful, somewhat cost-conscious way.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept Год назад
@@petesharp1144 hehe somewhat cost conscious 🫣 but my main motivation was to recycle another frame rather than buying another carbon frame which will go into the bin at some point. You could definitely build it way cheaper with only a slight weight penalty when using for example a Sensah groupset and the regular elite or just aluminium wheels. Might do a budget video at some point to see how low i could go. 🤌
@petesharp1144
@petesharp1144 Год назад
For sure. I mean eewing brakes are never cost conscious! I just get tired of people getting snarky about how someone spends their money. Of course money is involved. The title of your video doesn't indicate it's a budget build.

Can you ride a bike without pedals? Do they not screw into the bike and become a fixed part of the bike like all the other components? Why would you weigh it without pedals? Maybe after all those light weight carbon parts fail you'll quit being such a weight wennie and make it a real bike that will take some abuse and last for years.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept Год назад
Hey Charles, i just noticed that this seems to be the weigh how others and manufacturers compare the bike weight. Kind of made sense to me as for me the bike with speedplay power meter pedals will have a different weight than for my friend who would ride it with shimano pedals. Im not really that much of a weight weenie in general but wanted to make it a topic at least on this bike.
@charlesmansplaining

@@klein-concept It's all cool. Personally I would like to see steel make a comeback just because carbon fiber is bad for the planet. Same goes for all the stuff running on batteries now but I sure wouldn't want to part with my Di2 shifting.
@klein-concept
@klein-concept Год назад
@@charlesmansplaining i think it is on a good way. Would love to see a couple more brands offering high quality steel but i guess we will get there. And i agree ultimately carbon is made for the bin in the mid term which was one of the reasons why i started looking at steel in the first place even tho i still love a good aero frame 🫣.

Let's see... the original bike was likely quite cheap. He added an off brand (not Enve, Cadex, Zipp, etc) wheelset. Standard Dura Ace crankset, chain, second hand cassette. Sure, DA is not cheap but it's not bespoke either. Ali Express stem. Fancy post, brakes and bars. The same 1" stem I bought for $179 for my old road bike. He spent a fair amount but he created the bike! He built it up with curated parts. He was deliberate about it and mentioned multiple times he was being cost conscious to some degree. I can guarantee he spent less than a DA equipped off the dealer floor carbon bike. That's what you have, right?
