Tipper, I love that you more often than not go for taste over presentation. I cook much in the same way. I have never been one to decorate or make dishes look "pretty." Every so often, I can pull it off, but most of the time, I just want the food to taste good. Having said that, your strawberry pie looks delicious! I just bought some strawberries today, so I may make one of these over the weekend. Thank you for sharing!
Locally grown strawberry time here in the Maryland Piedmont runs from May into early June. Daddy's sister, my Nanny, always sliced local strawberries and sugared them ahead of time so they would soften as juice was draw out of them. She made true short cakes, large sweetened, very short bisquits. In a bowl went the bottom half of the shortcake, some stawberries and juice , top half of shortcake, more berries and juice and whipped cream. In the days when mostly only seasonal fruits and vegetables could be bought at the grocery stores, this yearly treat, and others, were eagerly awaited and savored, the memory of which had to last until another year rolled around.
You and deer hunter make a great couple! It will be awhile til we get fresh strawberries here in PA but the jam is my favorite. Thanks for what you do! God bless 💖
I agree with Matt, it's almost as sweet as you are. I used to make this pie almost every Mother's Day. I haven't made it in several years. I have strawberries with blooms this year too and I'm so excited! I will have to make this pie soon!!
My grandma made a baked strawberry pie that was awesome. Here, down in the NC piedmont...foothills...we tend to to have alot of strawberry farms. Love y'all!
Looks delicious! I remember the shoneys strawberry pie, loved them...my strawberry plants are starting to bloom now too! Exciting time of year , fruit blooming , peach trees, apple trees, pear trees, strawberry plants, blackberries, blue berries...and planting time vegetables....thanks tipper ! God bless y'all...🙏❤
We love this recipe. We use store bought frozen pie crust. Bake it and cool it. You pick the crust with fork. Love this pie. I wish I had the hot fudge cake recipe.
Awwww That was so sweet of Matt. And I like his beard. I'm making that pie to take to my grandsons on my birthday this week. I'm officially as old as dirt on the 27th. 🤣
Corie is such a thoughtful person. You inspired me to make this pie. It is much simpler than the recipe I've always used so am excited to try yours. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah Matt on the pizza cutter!!! On our first date, my wife now, of 24 years and her 2 year old son, went on our first date, after church Sunday night, to Shoney's for some Strawberry Pie. She and her son, both got grilled cheese sandwiches and fries. Loved them both ever since. God Bless and stay safe.
@@dscobellusa I usually do a normal pastry crust and just add a little sugar for strawberry pies. But someone turned me on to this pretzel crust years ago and it's just absolutely delicious! Pretty sure they got the idea from that jello strawberry salad but it works so well here. I've also done a mock cheesecake layer in the bottom and on the top. Easier on the bottom to spread. It's literally just a cam of sweetened condensed milk and softened cream cheese. Some times I add a box of pudding mix if I want it even thicker.
Looks delicious! I planted a strawberry plant last spring and it’s producing strawberries this year, I’m so excited to make some sweet treats with them! We also go to a local orchard to pick them. I usually make strawberry shortcake but I may have to try this!
Tipper I used to make this 40+ yrs ago when I first married. I am definitely going to make it again! My hubs aunt gave me the recipe back then. Love her heart. She’s in heaven now. She always had the latest recipes as she was an operator for Ma Bell. Thanks for sharing & God Bless! ❤️
That looks wonderful! I like that the strawberries are not cooked for this recipe. Strawberries are so much better without cooking; it retains their natural flavor.
Oh my goodness, we had that same GE food processor! My dad worked for GE his whole career so we were fortunate to get appliances at a discount. Love to see that again, thank you Tipper!
Great recipe! I make a similar pie, but keep the strawberries whole. Local Strawberries around here aren’t ready until mid to late June and are wonderful. Sometimes we go to a you pick farm and pick them. Those currently in the grocery stores come from California and are seldom worth putting into a pie. Occasionally they are good though! Yummy thoughts of summer.
That looks delicious Tipper! Momma made one similar to that, it was an apple berry tart pie. Cooked apples with black berries and raspberries, or any berry that was in season. She always used the canned apples from the year before, and a little lemon juice. Delicious. Great video, thank you!
Good morning! Even though it’s end of February I’m making this today but before I do I thought of checking in here to see if you had a recipe and no surprise, you do! Have a wonderful Sunday!
Miss Tipper this is exactly how my mom made her strawberry pie and how we all like our strawberry pie now that she is no longer with us. God bless you and your family
Looks so good! We had an elderly neighbor when I was a young boy who would gift me a whole strawberry pie every year for my birthday. This brings back some memories. I sure do miss her.
Thank you. I am going to make this. When I was little, I loved strawberries. I disliked cake. Since strawberries were in season on my birthday, my mom would make strawberry shortcake. I would eat a bowl of strawberries while everyone enjoyed their cake. One day I found a recipe for strawberry cake. It was so delicious that I found myself eating cake for breakfast! Pies have always been my favorite, though. Loving your channel & appreciating your sharing.
I giggled as I saw Matt lurking in the background, waiting for you to cut into that pie! I'd have buried it with whipped cream on top. Have a good day!
Good one I love it/im a strawberry growing girl/white pink and big red ones /down the rd from me is the strawberry growing queen /she has a beautiful seat sized rock that she sits on and looks down over her big red strawberries in her patch, Matt/is - - - lucky that you make him fresh strawberry pies/I love gram crackers it must be yummy!
I love that you say “supper”. I have always eaten breakfast, lunch and supper in that order. I tell my kids to not invite me and their mom to dinner because I want know when to show up. I also tell them that Jesus ate supper and the evening meal will always be supper to me.
I was at Fatz in Franklin today and there was a couple from Murphy. He has a car repair place, been there forever. I asked them if they knew y’all....they didn’t. However! Someone overheard me and said is that the appalachain lady who just won some award on RU-vid and her daughters play music? I said, yes. They were from Michigan n watch your videos n love y’all. I wanted to share that. You are amazing!, and famous!
You are welcome. It is the Gods honest truth. i think i was more proud than, I am sure, you are. You are doing it Tipper. Keep on going. God bless you and your family. Please tell the girls, because they knew about them as well.
I haven't thought about Shoneys strawberry pie in years- Shoneys is long gone where I live. I love strawberry pie- it's like Spring on a plate. I need the whipped cream though lol. Thank you for sharing Tipper! 💗🌷🍓
Brings back memories of my childhood in the 70s when our family would stop by Shoney’s on the way home from church on Sunday night for a piece of their strawberry pie. For some reason Mom’s homemade strawberry pies never could quite capture that Shoney’s pie. They were good, but just not quite the same. I just shared this with my wife so we can try it. Never had strawberry pie with graham cracker crust but love graham cracker crust and I can’t wait to try it!
When I was a kid back in the 1970s I used to get a similar strawberry pie topped with whipped cream at a local cafeteria and boy did I look forward to it.
My husband will be so excited. His family would buy these pies when he was little. I didn’t like strawberries growing up because the seeds were on the outside. I don’t know why that bothered me 😂 My Mama & Papa (grandparents) would take me to Shoneys, it was “fancy” to me. This was in South Carolina. Thank you again for sharing and giving us another lovely memory.
Looks so good. My grandmother made this pie too. This brought back some wonderful memories. Btw love the stuff glass! That’s what I use to press down my tea cakes.
