The Best Thing in New Zealand (not Hobbiton)

Maybe Tia should start a Big Things postcard series! She gets so tickled, which makes me laugh. (But I love the nature ones - gorgeous.)

My, how far (most literally) the two former baristas have come... how wonderful their travels have been, and so beautifully documented for us to witness!

Those postcards look so good. I wish you would release box sets for purchase every now and then.

Love that you stopped at the ‘big’ sheepdog & ram in Tirau… there’s heaps more to find as you travel around - the carrot, the gumboot, the L&P bottle, the crayfish, the salmon… the ‘Simpson’s’ donut (Springfield) to name a few 😅

There's a fairly subtle difference between Marmite and Vegemite. My preference is Vegemite. Several years ago there was an earthquake that damaged the manufacturing plant that made Marmite, resulting in a shortage of Marmite known as Marmageddon. I just watched Josh and Lisa's vid on NZ, and finally learned the origin story of the car plant!

I went to Lord of the Rings sites at Arrowtown (ford of Bruinen) where Arwon says " if you want him, come and claim him." and Glenorchy ( the scene where Gandalf rides to Isengard) near Queenstown on the South Island.

Its 3.28am here in Far Nth NSW. You 2 getting up at "midnight" to go to a beach with hot springs. 👏👏ALL your Vids are uplifting and positive. 💯💕💕 Very much look fwd to seeing you two next Sunday. Safe travels Tia and Cheveyo. ps As an Aussie, I "hate" Vegemite but LOVE Promite.😊

For Vegemite you have to have HOT buttered toast -with the butter actually melted through. Then the thinest smear of vegemite -never thick like peanut butter. Cover the toast, but only a few molecules thick. Best late night snack in the world! Love that you visited the dog and sheep at Tirau. Tia for scale!

My guess is the town you're in that smells of eggs, is one or near one of the volcanic townships (e.g. Rotarura). Their power stations use the heat of the earth to make sustainable electricity! Loving the series.

It's a little strange how much I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in Rotorua's mud next video!

Way back in the early 2000s when i went to NZ and wanted to go to Matamata to visit the hobbiton set, the original set was basically only holes…the farm owner didnt want the film set keep and wanted to have the farm returned to its original state. Obviously realised a film set attraction is a better investment 😂 but very impressed with the attention to detail…also agree with the person that mentioned the Vegemite to butter ratio…if you’ve never had Vegemite before, you need more butter than vegemite. Also i find that marmite is a lot more “runnier” than vegemite…and vegemite is superior 😊

"smells like eggs" thats the high sulphur content in the atmosphere. Many natural volcanic geothermal springs in the area that you may discover...

I knew Tia was in for trouble when she said the Vegemite looked like Nuttella, Vegemite is a salty umami flavour. if that's what your expecting when you first try it you'll enjoy it more.

Marmite is New Zealand made and our only home made yeast spread .. There's very few cupboards/pantries in nz that doesn't have a jar or two of Marmite.. Marmite has barley, oat and rye whereas Vegimite has wheat and barley. Hence that bite you taste only in Marmite. There's so many uses besides just on toast\bread\butter.

That’s it the large doggie is the thing that pushed me over, NZ here I come 😂❤

We spent 3 weeks in NZ in May of this year and has the most amazing holiday ever. If you think the north island is beautiful, the south is somehow even better! Also jealous you were at Hobbiton, I’m a massive Tolkien fan and that place was like Disneyland for me. Keep up the great videos :)

I love the quirky roadside attractions that Tia finds! I seek that kind of things out too. A more recent one was an old Shell gas station that is shaped like an actual shell and painted bright yellow. It's in Winston-Salem, NC.

You need a better butter to Marmite ratio, smother the toast with Butter,so it softens,and then spread a bit of Marmite over it, so much better.

My visit to Hobbiton was one of the highlights of a NZ trip some years ago, I wouldn’t have gone except we were traveling with fiends and they wanted to go

I loved New Zealand, we were there in February but unfortunately we couldn’t see Hobbiton. We are going back soon to see the things we didn’t see first time around.

If you smear peanut butter over the light smear of vegemite, it might be more palatable to you. My sister just introduced me to that concoction and it was quite nice :)

Good on you for at least trying Vegemite in New Zealand 😂 As others have said start with a thin spread, only experienced Vegemite eaters slap it on. I’ve worked up to be one of those. Love it with avocado or cheese or all 3 🥰 Tracking you on your tour of NZ as it’s on our trip list after maybe a month or so touring Tassie. Safe travels. 😊

It has to be said, you spread your Vegemite too thick. On toast, you need lots of butter with a very thin spread of Vegemite. Yum! It also has to be said, The Hobbiton tour was beyond expensive! Much cheaper just watching the movies. Nearly wet myself when I heard Cheveyo's reaction when he saw the big dog.....'oh, this is happening again!'.🤣

If you go to hot water beach just as the tides going out the hot water mixes with the cold ocean water and creates the perfect temperature. Definitely need a spade tho.

We lived right around the corner from Hobbiton for a couple of years, It was the only time I actually enjoyed Covid, cos the traffic was purely just the locals so it was so nice and quiet! It's a really beautiful and picturesque area. I love Tia's joy, it is so infectious!

Love your videos! Have almost made it through all 297! Keep it up! Spend as much time as possible in Wanaka - one of the best places in New Zealand. Definitely recommend isthmus Peak hike!
