The BEST Travel Lens.
What is the best travel lens? If you "HAD" to choose just ONE lens to travel with and nothing else, what would it be? In this video I check out some of the most popular Nikon lenses and weed my way through them to find the best in weight, all round versatility, image quality and focal length for travel.
Best travel lens for Sony I recommend: Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 or Sony 24-105mm F4
Best travel lens for Canon I recommend: Canon 24-70mm F2.8 or Canon 24-105mm F4
All the gear in this video was bought and paid for by myself, it is in no way sponsored.
All video footage and photographic images are

You can also purchase my images on many different products, including canvas prints, photographic prints, clothing, phone cases, throw pillows, greeting cards and more. Delivery is worldwide and helps in the support of my RU-vid channel. So any purchase, even very small for a few dollars, is greatly appreciated. bit.ly/AAPphotoprints

I've also been asked a lot about other lenses for other brands of cameras, here are my suggestions: Sony I recommend: Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 or Sony 24-105mm F4 Canon I recommend: Canon 24-70mm F2.8 or Canon 24-105mm F4 Happy travels and thanks for watching 📸😀🙏

I use a D850 with a 24-70 for 80% of my shots. Great choice you made. It is nice to have the zoom of a 70 and the wide angle as well.
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 5 лет назад
Thanks Tim. The D850 is just soooo good isn't it. Can't see myself parting with it anytime soon. The 24-70mm 2.8 pretty much covers everything, including, product, landscape, astro, portrait etc. If I could have only one lens, that'd be it.

Very interesting! My choice would be between the 24-70 and the 70-200. Final call would be whether my destination was more about landscapes or wildlife!

Good call Tom and thanks for watching. I'd be taking the 70-200 for sure if I was just shooting wildlife, such a fast, beautiful lens.

Greetings, heading to 6 countries, and passing through the Panama Canal, too. I had planned on taking all my good lenses, which include most of what you showed in this video. I shoot a Nikon D750 and love it! Lenses were going to be: 50mm f1.8; 14-24 f2.8G; F24-70 f2.8G, and 70-200 F2.8E FL. In the end, I may still take them all, "just because". But, your reasons for knocking down to the 24-70 are sound, and I will definitely consider your comments. Thank you for the very well-reasoned commentary, and solid decisions!!! Take care, and God Bless! Doc Mark

@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 5 лет назад
Thanks so much for watching. I'd have to do some research into whether it made any difference getting either the Nikon or Tamron image quality wise. Then work out if the cost difference was worth it. If both put out the same image quality and were reliable and focused well. I'd go for the cheaper of the 2.

Super perspective on a single travel lens. Shooting Canon R5. Beautiful, RF 24- 70mm f2.8, is my choice for a single lens too. However, heading to Sicily, Liguria then Venice before ending in Rome (full month). Finding myself wanting a little more pull to capture unique landscape images at distance. I hear so many great things about the compactness, lightness (just under 700g) and quality of image from the RF 70- 200mm f4, I am wondering if I will regret not purchasing and bringing it along as a second. Weight is always an issue when traveling abroad. Your thoughts? Have you ever had regrets leaving something home?

Hi Blane - I don't know if you got my last reply? Having issues with the net here. In brief I said I think you've got it on spot on! Well done. The 70-200mm F4 Canon is a superb travel lens and will be the perfect accompaniment to the 24-70mm. It's light weight too. Do love that Canon R5. Safe travels.

Nikon glass is fantastic. Hopefully they can become more popular again in the future. I traded my D5600 for a Panasonic GH5 because I'm more focused on video. If the Nikon had a DSLR or mirrorless with great video options and a flipscreen, I wouldn't have bought the GH5. Thanks for making this video.
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 5 лет назад
Thanks so much for watching. Awesome camera that GH5. Brilliant for video. Nikon have started with the Z6 and Z7 cameras, but I still believe they have a bit more to go to catch Sony and Canon video wise (and a flip screen). I'm excited to see the next generation Nikon Z cameras because they would have ironed out some of the little bugs with the first gen cameras. Cheers!

I’m searching for a nikon 24-70 f2.8.. but seeing there are different types. Is there a letter after the f2.8 after the one you recommend? New to photography and just purchased a Nikon d850
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography Год назад
Hi Amber - I'm not too sure if Nikon are still making the version 24-70mm F2.8 in this video? If they are, search for Nikon AF-S 24-70mm F2.8G lens. You may be able to pick one up cheaply second hand. Nikon now make the same lens only with VR (vibration reduction) on it. It's bigger, heavier and more expensive, hence why I don't think it has sold too well. Another lens you may want to look at as a good all rounder is the Nikon 24-120mm F4 F mount lens. www.digidirect.com.au/nikon-af-s-24-120mm-f-4g-vr-if-ed-lens?gclid=Cj0KCQjwgO2XBhCaARIsANrW2X3loH-Vvgoa41XnOpU_7kPHtVbddgo9x_DRekpKKSuoeozzCeFEUSUaAlfJEALw_wcB

I have used both 24-70 and 16-35 both f2.8 for family and landscape as we trek. I think 16-35 is more versatile to my type of shooting. My 2 cents.

Would the 24 - 120mm f4 for be a good choice for travel (using D850)?
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 4 года назад
It all depends on the type photography you're going to do. Personally, it would not suit me as I find the F2.8 far more useful in all types of lighting, than having extra zoom reach. If you were doing mainly sight seeing during the day and doing outdoor daylight type photography then yes, the 24-120mm F4 would be perfect.
@jwalker1332
@jwalker1332 4 года назад
@@adrianalfordphotography A dilemma indeed. I have seen a few ideas on RU-vid- tours included. I have a D850 with 14 - 24mm f2.8, 80 - 200mm f2.8 and a Tamron G2 24 - 70mm f2.8. I am happy with this gear but it is heavy and if in my bag as carry on luggage it is at about 11kg. As you said sacrificing the f2.8 is a tough compromise. Thanks Adrian for your feedback.

The moment I saw all these lenses & the question , the answer was obvious without you even indicating the lenses because I know them. 24-70 , logic. 24-120 might also be handy despite F4. With todays software one can blur the background with one click ( the likes of Luminar Neo ) Sometimes I wonder why I even need a D850 and lenses such as the 24 F1.4 , 135 F2dc , 300 F2.8 . Or even my super Tamron 35 F1.4 . It is all heavy & I am not getting any younger , so lately I am more on the road with my X-pro2 and 23F2 or Meyer Trioplan , then anything else. And even more : pictures I shot with my Olympus Xz-1 and printed on A3+ look as tack sharp. And that was only a 10mp camera. It is only when you start to crop or shoot in low light or want something special that a pro-body can give you that extra need. I grew up with analog cameras such as the Olympus OM-1/2/4 & done photography school where you had to develop yourself your pictures . On todays market the choices are enormous and most cameras are pretty good enough for most normal needs. I agree totally on the 24-70 F2.8. But if I wanted to travel even more light , I would opt for the likes of a Lumix GX9 with 12-35 F2.8 & in addition one of the Voighlander's @ F0.95. Small kit .
