Look at ASR review, it was painfull to see the performance of this thing. Its an AB class amplifier that produce the 50/60Hz 120/240V AC, so very limited in power because of the AB class effiency. People wpuld be better with a online ups (Single-Phase Double Conversion UPS) if there electrical is very unstable and could damage the equipments, otherwise dont add anything except a surge protector on your electrical panel.
@ThinkingBetter
@ThinkingBetter Год назад
@@DrLoveQc Yes, those ASR reviews are generally done very well. The idea that you need a power plant to clean your AC power is perhaps true if you live next to some factory in a third world country but in most locations I’ve seen, the quality of your mains power is at a level where your products can handle it, provided they have been designed with care on mains power noise and fluctuations immunity. If a power plant really makes your source device sound better it would make me suspect that the source device is terribly designed in the power supply of it. Possibly the problem can be fixed by a 20 cents capacitor over the Vcc in such case.

I’ve long maintained that the best use of a power plant (and devices like it) is to be sold for a profit by the manufacturer. After that, the number of use-cases falls dramatically.

I had set up a stereo in our lounge where there was none previously. Not knowing how the system and room should or could sound like, it just sounded wrong, like the first minute. I immediately had a suspect: our dimmable light. Switching them off immediately changed the sound for the better, and this was audible to everyone. Since we added one of those special power splitters for cleaning up power (like 50 bucks item), not even a power re-generator, the issue went away. And I am the first to admit that I am not a super audiophile with golden ears blabla... Maybe you have great circumstances as-is in your place, or maybe you only "maintained" and never tried ;)

@@Baerchenization sounds like you have/had a fundamental wiring problem that could/should be solved for under a hundred dollars by a competent electrician, not by a "band aid" device costing $50, let alone thousands for a power station. As for me, my system is mostly all vintage, bought new 40+ years ago, and its current value (even its original value adjusted for inflation) is a fraction of what a power station costs, so I will continue "maintaining". I have no desire to try such a device, only a desire to apply my common sense.

ps audio power plant i thinks they are a powerful amplifier, you put inn 60hz or 50hz in and you get 110v out. if you live in a 230v country, this amplifier must be powerful. no amplifier is completely free of THD noise and other things. you push this amp or whatever you want to call it pretty hard I think. so if you want to reduce noise by 50%, it is not certain that it will reduce that much

A regenerator is a power amplifier. There's only slight differences between the 2. A few years ago when PS Audio came out their top of the like regenerator, I think it was the 1000, the also came out with a new power amplifier at the same time called the Classic 250. They looked identical. When Monster started making regenerators, they also started making power amplifiers at the same time. Again, the products appear to be almost identical, and I believe Monster hired Richard Marsh, a famous power amp designer, to make them. I know other companies did this as well, but its been a while and I just don't remember.

All system components already have their own voltage converters built into them that convert the A.C. into D.C. that the component actually uses. Can one say, that in countries with 115 V, and higher current capacity, the impedance and sensitivity induced by current draw, is higher than where the outlet delivers 240 V? And regarding noise and distortion on the outlet sockets, some countries are much more clean and stable, where others are the opposite.

Most quality components have very good power supplies in them, and will work perfectly well with voltage swings, and the dreaded "dirty" power syndrome. I would expect that all PS Audio products have very good power supplies in them which would already provide clean consistent power for what ever that unit requires. Case in point,...I have owned 2 PS Audio M700's, dead quiet, and have never had the slightest issue. Power regenerators, conditioners in my opinion are not necessary, and a waste of money.

I like your channel, there always seems to be something interesting to learn about. My old ducted air conditioner would dim the lights whenever the outdoor unit kicked on every few minutes. Even on it's own circuit, it'll still do that. That's why air conditioners have a soft-start system, if they were to just turn the compressor straight on then it's too much sudden power draw and it affects everything else.

While it is true that not everyone will benefit from the use of a power plant or similar devices, you can't count them out. As an example, I live in very rural PA where the power lines are literally run through trees. If a fly farts, we get a power glitch. During storms, forget it. I have had two pole transformers, feeding my house, explode over the years. Power glitches and short, minutes, outages happen all the time. I don't use a power plant, but I do use pure sine wave regenerating UPS's. They work very well, but are also expensive. I happen to need the battery backup portion, or I would use something like a power plant. Best use of a Power Plant? Dunno, got a wonky table that needs propping? A door that needs holding open? Paperweight? Power Plants / Power Regenerators are hokum, sold to the easily confused. A domestic environment with a properly wired electrical supply will NEVER need a Power Plant. It's pure elitist audiophile nonsense - in no other part of your house would you think, hmm, I wonder if my TV will give me blacker blacks if I change power supply? Maybe my Mac will run faster and get better search results if I introduce a power plant? Maybe my refrigerator will keep things fresher? Wake up and smell the coffee.

AC to DC to AC to … DC again. No need to be a genius to see that the thing is useless for sources and amplifiers alike.

"No need to be a genius to see that the thing is useless for sources and amplifiers alike." I agree that you are not a genius. Considering that you never auditioned the product that you are bashing, evidences that you are not a genius.

@Douglas Blake "Most amplifiers (etc.) have power line filtering and DC regulation built in. Makes the power plants kind of unnecessary." Most also have covers and circuit boards and cables. What they do not have is clean, regenerated power.

@@NoEgg4u It has nothing to do with "auditioning the thing" it's just common sense and very obvious to everyone but those that believe in "magic".

@@JonAnderhub 'It has nothing to do with "auditioning the thing" it's just common sense and very obvious to everyone but those that believe in "magic".' Not everyone has what is common. Not everyone has common sense. Someone that writes that they know how something sounds, without listening to that something, is lacking common sense. Please recommend cars that you have never driven. Please recommend food that you have never tasted. Please recommend hotels where you never stayed. Etc. Please let me know which reviewers, for any products or services, you respect. But limit your list of reviewers to only those who never used the items that they are reviewing. Use your common sense to know all the above.
