The Best Version of MAME For Killer Instinct?! 

Thanks a lot for posting this. I have a converted Midway cabinet that I am restoring to killer instinct and this mame version will hold me over until I can pick up a reasonably priced pcb

Best version now is the PC version without needing MAME, you just need the IMG files for KI1 and KI2 and run it with a native program specifically for this game.

I tried to download the version and the .ini file. Put the the rom in the folder and the .chd in a kinst folder (as I've done with batocera, where it works). Unfortunately mame gives me this error "the selected game is missing [...]". Any idea about that? Thanks!

christ these stutters has been bothering me for years, i discuss that with you before, great vid i will try it out on my MK2 fullsize mame cab thanks ! By the way i also did try lots of different version and i belive 0.139 is the one to use to remove those stutters, trust me i tried everything so far too and stu stu stu stu stutter all the time when starting a fight, especially when you play with TJ combo

Missing chd but they are there!!!,stupid emulator.

Hello. I tried in mame4droid and runs very slow,mk4 and tekken tag runs good. In retroarch with mame2003 runs smooth but it restarts when i win a fight or when a fmv is displayed or just crashes. I hear can run smooth in fba or fbneo but it says missing files and not work.

Hey Chris! 90s teen here.. Is this process still the case in 2024? I’d love to be able to play KI & MK on my PC with an HDMI cable to my big screen TV. My PC is not high end, just a good modern laptop. Do I need a powerful PC for these MAME games?

Question, I’m currently doing this KI build myself. So far the game plays fine. But on start up I have to hit F3 after a beep otherwise there’s no music just voice over effects. And the other thing I’ve noticed is the control configuration needs resetting everytime I go in and out of mame. Ideally I’d like to not have a keyboard handy to rectify these things everytime I turn on the game. Any tips?

Can anybody explain why it is so difficult to emulate Killer Instinct? Despite it being 26 years old it has still been a struggle to get it running.

Sir question, how do you set up the buttons for the KI 1 Game? i plugged in my Mad catz TE II stick before opening and when i start playing all my button are jank. like my LP. starts from up to bottom to mid up to mid bottom to far up right buttons. plz help, love your channel by the way!

I need help. Where can i find Killer Instinct rom for this MAME version 139? I tried so many files and all of them are missing files. New to this.

How do I get Killer instinct to work on mame?? I literally put kinst in the roms folder, copied the kinst chd folder into the other kinst folder, put it into the roms folder, and opened mame, and it says that the required files are missing. the missing files arent in my kinst rom, so please help.

Ok I'm running the same HP desktop you recommended. I have the merged romsets of mame 209. Also the rom for 175 and 139.. It's telling me I'm missing "ROM/chd" I downloaded from mame site ROM set .. any help with chd locations

I’m using MAME 0.139 on my MacBook Air running Parallels w/Windows 10. No issues either. I use a Mayflash F300 stick and can mirror the screen to my TV with the Apple TV....until Arcade 1up releases or I buy an actual cabinet lol

I'm not sure if you have already done this or not but if you have can you please maybe link a video. Do you have a step by step instruction on how to install Mame 139 and Killer Instinct. I have an old Hewlett-Packard laptop that I don't really use anymore but I would love to convert into a Mame machine. I tried doing it but I just can't seem to get it to work. Are there any step-by-step tutorials of not only installing Mame but getting Killer Instinct working properly on a 32-bit laptop. Thank you so much if you have the time to explain this to us

Can Batocera run mame higher than .78? Which OS is the best to run the latest mame. Mame .78 is too too old..there are games won't work on it. I'm run Batocera on raspberry pi 4.

I use 119, old versions of mame seem to work fine in this game

custom builds seems to be the only key for improved emulation like BOTW emulator CEMU, and 1964GEPD for 007 PD ,and many builds for certain arcade games, i wish there was just one universal standard for a platform and all u need is a plugin to make games compatible for it and auto selects it

Do you have info or procedure for startup of the pc to maybe go straight into the game or do you have to load it with keyboard or mouse? I can’t figure out how to do it through mame even if I get an external power switch how does it direct boot?

Hello Thanks 4 this video, i have to test the versions you provided, unfortunately I have a problem with a few games, so-called: 1. Ki 2 when starting there is no sound in the intro and you have to enter and exit to services then the sound comes back you have some idea for it apparently you can't do anything about it: \ 2. Hey there. I just got an RG351p (an entry point for me into the wonderful world of modding and emulation. Plan on making a RetroPi for a cab in the near future). But for the time being, the 351p (highly rated Chinese handheld emulator) is probably not gonna be able to run the arcade versions of Ki1 or Ki2, right? It seems to stutter on Mortal Kombat 2 and UMK3 (not sure if a firmware update would fix that). Reckon I should settle for the console versions?

Three questions about that pc you recommend. Is it good as a Mame cabinet with tons of games or just as a single game cabinet. And second is the SSD easy to replace for a 1 tb SSD, and third what SSD would you recommend to upgrade to for this

I just recently built a PC for my arcade cabinet and added the full rom set for MAME 222 on launchbox. I try the KI game and at first, I thought it was just my computer being lag and I was like wait a minute, my PC is brand new I don't remember KI have this lag in MAME emulator. I knew something seemed off. Now I will add the old emulator you just suggested. Will use this ONLY for KI 1. Thanks!!!

do you know if killer instinct works in retroarch? only i managed to get it to run in the 2003 version but it runs really bad :( the newer versions like mame 2010 couldn't make it work. I would like to add shaders.

wow, thats it. But i had fail with it. i have gt king (i was install emuelec). In folder Arcade i can load KI the first, but only through mame 2016 but it has much freezing. Can you tell me, how i can fix this problem?

Thank you very much for the nice video, had a headache trying to get Killer instinct up and running, your video point me out in the right direction, at first the only way it worked for me was using the killer instinct project files but it had that annoying hiccup whenever a round ends, after many fail attempts I managed to download correct rom plus correct CHD, I used your ini file + the mame version and it does work! got rid of that damn hiccup, I also noticed that the rom + CHD version works well with retro arch mame 2016 core, you still get a tiny hiccup but not as bad as in the regular mame, since I love retro arch end up using it as default :) .
