Im glad someones finally talking about Gaylord Steambath's character and bringing him to light, same with the noob adventures show. I think he's underratted
I think Gaylord Steambath is the perfect example of a "Set in a Videogame" antagonist trope. Typically, mostly anime, has the videogame antagonist want to do something grand or big with their game, typically merging the game world with the real world, or subjugating all of reality, or doing some other plan to conquer/destroy the real world. Hell, even Minecraft: Story Mode did this with their admin. But Gaylord Steambath? He doesn't have any master plans for world domination. He's just trolling the shit out of everyone. He's a person that you've probably met before in a game once, who just goes around burning everything in his path because it's funny. You would NEVER meet someone like Kayaba Akihiko, but you've DEFINITELY met some people like Steambath on games like ARK or Minecraft, or any amount of MMORPGs. Just... people who are huge assholes for the fuck of it.
I know. I've been that annoying guy. I kept giving myself op on a server with an alt I got op with before. I fucked around with that server for a long time and I am lucky the admin didn't know what a server log is. Some good ol' harmless fun. Nah I was a cunt but still was an adventure with different shenanigans and random trolls(only thing I didn't do tho was grief. Destroying hard work without a way to instantly reverse it wasn't in my heart)
The whole noob adventures series feels like a DnD campaign. With the over arching goal being to defeat the tyrant. But with many side quest in-between. Minecraft's fantasy setting allows for this. It also makes sure you know that this whole story is set inside a video game and that the people in the story have lives outside the game, at one moment they meet this skilled adventurer who after doing the quest with them says he has to leave because he got grounded from his computer by his parents. It's honestly hilarious.
So I just got linked this in discord and all I could see was the thumbnail. I have NO clue where I remember this from, but I see that face, crown, and diamond armor and I can't just faintly hear the prissy self important laugh echoing in some distant room. Just teasing my memory.
My god, my god, my god, the memories of my childhood, overload.....AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! But seriously, I looked for this series for YEARS without being able to find it, I remembered it every time I saw Minecraft, thank you for making me rediscover this treasure from my childhood.
Gaylord steambath's is those type of villain that hits home with their personality, i live with a person who bullies me emotionally with a cocky punchable smile that you'l hate to see and steambath reminds me alot of them, the type of villain that you'l hate to see but you'l love to see failing againts the hero
@@TheStarlatan yeah i hope so. Their not alwas like that but when start bullying me emotionally then all i can do is go to my room. I hope one day their learn not to be jerks half of the time and stop their bad behavior
@@Itsunobaby i do. A couple of times actually. But my parents (specifically my dad) alwas tell me to stop it love that person. I didn't know emotional abuse was a form of love
For years I always wondered what this series was called. I know that I watched it at some point but could never remember the name or any details about it other than that I loved watching it.
The Escardi version of the character it's funny, the original version it's just chaos, when i learn english and see the original show i just understand the hard work Escardi did to make the jokes the voices and change the characters to make them different but same as the original It's just sad to many people don't see this show and the people who see it just forget it
I love his reasoning behind what he does, and it can be applied to real life: if you didn’t have conflict you wouldn’t have learning moments, and in a way, life would have less meaning if there weren’t challenges to overcome.
I remember this show, absolutely loved it when i was younger, I'm kinda disappointed in myself for forgetting about a lot of this Also gotta love how mentioning toby fox literally once in an off hand comment is enough to have him listed in the description. Edit: i just now realised i never actually finished the whole series, i just made it to the episode where they introduced the hacker and i never saw what happened after, damn.
just finished watching it and i seriously think this is the most underated video i've ever seen, its actually insane how this only has 29 likes, keep this good shit up bro!!
As a HUGE fan of this series from the beginning... I need to say that this guy is unbelievably cool. Shootout to Jeff Schwertfeger for legendary voiceacting of Gaylord! Firstly, this guy is so weird that you can't really make his complicated lore. Alongside with series there was 10 Gaming with Gaylord episodes with a bunch of a strange info. And also all episodes are based on a real TNA server where he shows up regularly to play with players in events. So character lore is completely messy and hard to piece it together - THAT chaotic he is. Its hard to say "Are we talking about the player? Or the character? Or the real person behing the player?" Secondly, in my opinion TNA story shows us a consequences of a "whale" players being OPed and "that youtubers making fun of people for the content". We can literally see everything from normal player eyes. Because basically everything that happened in a series was like less than 1 day in real time. Normal people just want to play a game. And Gaylord wants to break peoples experience, he literally is "fuck we ball" guy. In third, he left a really cool legacy. In my opinion he is the REAL villain of the games. He can enter whatever game he likes and just completely destroy people's gaming experience (and thats what he literally did in GwG series). For years of playing games i saw a lot of people who followed HIS path, the path of a true griefer. So, TNA is not just a random animated series. Besides everything it also teaches you to understand that people like Gaylord exist and all you can really do is to fight against them and wait until server Owner returns. Sometimes you are forced to play a game even if things like this happens. This is an opportunity for you, the player, to show yourself being a good guy (like noobs) or a bad guy (like Milky_Dad). TNA will forever remain as a classic ❤
A Classic legendary series I will forever remember as part of my childhood and steambath is one of the most entertaining characters I have seen I hope and wish more people do know about him. I was greatly surprised and happy when they brought back the series to youtube first to a different site a few years ago.
I used to LOVE this series, and to this day, it still holds a special place in my heart. I remember taking part in one of the Noob Adventures art contests on their website, and I actually got a runner-up prize. Those were the days!
Dang, this video was a wonderful trip down memory lane. I remember loving watching Noob adventures and Mob Squad if anybody else remembers that series. Great video!
Most antagonist in minecraft fanseries take themselves too seriously where it looks stupid when you don't suspend your disbelief because minecraft is a silly blockgame with barely any stakes. However due Gaylord's nature as an internet troll, it makes his behavior very believable and funnier when you take a step back from your suspension of disbelief because it really is just Gaylord seeing an opportunity to mess and screw around in the server for the sake of it. The entire story feels like a dramatic retelling of the infamous event (which people tend to do with infamous trolls in communities) and i think this is the perfect premise for an antagonist. You either get immersed with the roleplaying or you just want to see what shenanigans happens next.
This series is soooo underrated. It feels illegal that this first video I’ve seen covering it. I remember this series being a sort of unification of the Minecraft community. It even having a big named RU-vidr like Antvenom voicing himself with his horse named “Boner”. 😂 Even getting some voice acting done for the Villagers from Element Animation This series sorta makes me reflect on how “magical” things used to be back in the Machinima days. 😢
Honestly this was a super interesting video, and I'd love to see more like this from you! You have the confidence and energy of someone who has tens of thousands of subscribers, to the point where I was shocked at your actual number. I'd love to see more stuff like this, and you've definitely earned a sub from me!
Great show. Rewatched it a few years ago. I remember back in the day I was the only kid I knew who watched it because everyone else at school said they didn't like Steambath.
I loved this series since I was in sixth grade! I'm glad I can still see it, it's so nostalgic! I even listen to it when I am sweeping and mopping at work!
I stumbled upon the series' upload a few months ago, no recommendations no anything, but I do remember just seeing it and scrolling away when I was a kid, but I'm glad I got hooked into it immediately after the first episode
I remember absolutely LOVING this series back in the day. I always thought of it as an animated version of the “The Elementia Chronicles” Minecraft novels, the first book featuring a pretty similar story of a Minecraft noob starting the game, finding some noob friends, finding a town, and discovering the evil “big bad” player who’s taken over everything, resulting in a 1v1 to the death with the Noob player and the Evil player at the end. Seeing this animated series after READING the first book just brought everything I’d imagined to life, and frankly I’m a little upset that I forgot about its existence.
I absolutely loved The N00b Adventures when i was a teenager, i always looked forward to new Episodes to come out, so happy to see someone actually talk about the series ^^ Also, fun Fact: Gaylord and Fart is voiced by the same person, He is so talented as a voice actor.
TNA (The Noob Adventures) is one of the greatest Minecraft fan series ever made, although these days it's largely forgotten due to it being in the earlier days of the game. I still remember it (and rewatch it) from time to time. I've only seen a few others mention it at all recently, and in glowing praise when they do. Regarding the comment about Gaylord Steambath not using creative mode (at 4:27), it didn't exist back then. The */give* command required item/block numerical IDs (as seen when he starts summoning random crap at 6:50 for dramatic effect.) Slightly unrelated, but I remember seeing a behind-the-scenes video from the animator detailing potential plotlines they thought would happen given the direction the game was going in (e.g. the dragon egg being hatched later after they acquired it), but were scrapped due to the game _not_ going in that direction like they though it would. There were more, but that one stuck out to me. I'll have to find it and watch it again sometime.
Holy shit this sent me on a nostalgia trip, I remember watching this series years ago as a kid, but no matter how hard I searched I could never find it again. I almost though it was a similar case to that 4chan anime post, that it just never existed.. I'm so glad I've been proven wrong and I'm not the only one who remembers this series.
God it's been so long since I've seen any mention of this series and it's very nostalgic. Kudos to you for talking about the character, villains like these are a rarity nowadays with redemption and whatnot. Sometimes a story that has a villain with no morals and has humorous dialogue is what makes me love villains with no moral motivation.
Never seen the series but just listening to you talk about this and how good you are at explaining this series has left me wanting to watch it to get my own perspective. Thank you. You don’t know or may not understand but thanks. This really made my night and… thx really.
The Noob Adventures means a lot to me, I made some of my best friends through the community that formed around this series and the Minecraft server for it (which is still around btw!)
I love Minecraft Noob Adventure, it's my favorite Minecraft animation series, Gaylord Steambath is definitely one of my favorite characters in that series, he is unapologetically evil but legit funny, chaotic and a complete weirdo but still manipulative and use strategy (from rooms of death traps to hiring a hacker), he's like Jack Horner from Puss in Boots and the Lash Wish, a power hungry, unapologetically evil, uncaring bastard that do anything to fulfill his own selfish desire but still funny as hack.
Never expected to see a video on this series! An absolute staple of my childhood, for sure, as many others have expressed. I remember first seeing it on the front page of Newgrounds eons ago and would slowly follow it as each new episode came out. It was mind-boggling at the time because no one had really done "minecraft parody" (If I could be so reductive as to call it that) animations to this caliber, with a clear beginning-middle-end and overarching storyline. When most people would animate minecraft at the time, it was usually just gags related to how punching wood was unrealistic or how funny it was that creepers blow up and kill you when you're not looking. Of course it still had those, but TNA was probably the first of its kind to actually be a serialized animation about Minecraft!!! Which was revolutionary in a timeframe when video game parody animation did kind of just boil down to a succession of gags about a game series, especially something that was so outrageously out-of-nowhere popular at the time like Minecraft was when it was only 2-3 years out the womb. Also, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but yes, the series has always been up on Newgrounds and has remained there since 2011(!!!) when it was originally uploaded, so that was always an alternative as a place to watch it when it was previously taken down from Machinima. Glad to see it reuploaded to RU-vid though, of course! Really nice video! I appreciate you seemingly speaking unscripted and from the heart, aside from a few notes and talking points I presume. Especially in relation to what could be considered an obscure series like this, it shows a lot of sincerity towards your love for it! Big ups!!
I remember this show I watched it maybe a year ago or so I love the show and it should totally reboot it bring back the series I can totally see this as a channel on TV
YOOO!!! I'm super excited to see TNA featured in modern YT content, thank you for making this! I would love to see character breakdowns for others in the show, like Milky_Dad or Fart haha. Keep it up!
In my opinion irl the best way to beat someone like this is to either react positively (i.e. ‘now that I think about it, I didn’t like that build anyway, thanks for giving me perspective’) or just not to react at all (‘ok’) and just keep playing normally Letting someone like this get to you is exactly what they want, and if you just move on, they’ll probably be more peeved than you could ever be
You have no idea how happy I was to see this video suggested to me, this series was such an inspiration to me as a kid! Glad to see some respect on my boy Gaylord Steambath's name! Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna go rewatch the entire series (again)
