Dimash is unic! He is a composer, multyinstrumentalist, poet ( writes in his Mother language Kazakh), dancer, is very good at sport. I heard he can also draw not bad. Dimash is the reason I watched Singer. The other performers were fantastic as well. I ended up watching the next season of the show as well. So many talented people out there! I don’t even speak Chinese, but the show was great. Dimash was my favorite from the 2017 show of course.

All the singers were professionals, invited to compete. Dimash was the unknown foreigner, the Wild Card, so he went on first with S.O.S. And he was surprised to wake up the next morning with a body guard outside his hotel room, so overwhelming was his success. He only came in second in the overall competition, but I've heard that was because they had a rule against giving the grand prize to a foreigner. There must have been some outcry over that, so in 2018 Jessie J did win. If you looks up Singer 2017 Eng Sub ep. 1, 2, etc. you can watch an entire show and see who came on after him.

SOS was his first on this show, 2nd was "Opera 2", 3rd: "The Show Must Go On", 4th "Autumn Strong", 5th "Uptown Funk", and "Adagio"was the 6th performance out of 12 or 14 performances as long as I recall.

In the round before this one he hadcto perfirm a Bruno Mars song not his favourite style. He came in 5th or 6th, so he felt compelled to give it all this time. A suit in the colour of the Kazakh flag, show he can play the piano, sing a song of his favourite artist, Lara Fabian, perform it with a massive build up using all the tools he could muster. Mission accomplished. Dimash plays 7 instruments, including the piano, drums and the national stting instrument the dombra ( Daididau).

Piano was Dimash's first instrument.... it was his piano teacher that noticed that 5 yr old Dimash had perfect pitch - and of course, he was immediately put into voice classes as well. ("Of course", given that his mom is a professional opera singer and dad was a well known pop singer for many years. Singing is the family business.) The first contest Dimash won (age 6) was for piano. I know he plays drums and of course, dombro. Don't know what the other instruments are. The other contestants are all well established performers with deep fan bases of their own. Sandy Lam, who won overall, is a National Treasure in China. (She's the one with the asymmetrical hair cut who is always listening carefully and being supportive.)
Dimash in the contest I am a singer won three stages of the contest with SOS, Opera 2 and Adagio. She got second place in the competition. The day after the SOS broadcast she had 600 million views and when she released her first CD it took 7 seconds to go platinum. After this contest Dimash gained worldwide notoriety.
