As a player about to start playing an abjuration wizard, I take offense to the claim that bards are the best counterspellers, as by level 10, abjurers add their full proficiency bonus to counterspells and dispel magic

Other good things about Sorlock: having those level-1 spell slots means you can still use things like Shield at high levels, and the Quickened Spell + Cantrip combo works great with Eldritch Blast.

I feel as though sorlock is a far more satisfying multiclass than people give it credit for, far beyond coffeelock. Mega magic combined with Eldritch invocations can make you one of the most unique casters in the game. A blend of your subclasses can be exceptionally interesting.

Imagine this: fighter 3, warlock 4, sorcerer 4. You action surge and spend 2 sorcery points to use quickened spell to cast eldritch blast 3 times and create what I like to call the Death Star. You now have 9 beams of eldritch energy hurling at your opponent/s on turn 1! It may not be optimized and just a dumb move but dam it sounds like fun.

Warlock is a fantastic multiclass for any primary Cha casters... especially the hexblade (sigh). I really wish the main features of hexblade were tied to pact of the blade instead of the subclass.

@@Makareno94 That's the thing, hexblade is so particular with its "hitting with charisma" it would make sense to have it as a pact instead of a patron. If you take hexblade, you *are* gonna take pact of the blade and if you want to take pact of the blade while not having taken hexblade, you'll lament not having the charisma-hitting feature. So no, that wouldn't really break the other subclasses because it would just allow you to diversify the playstyles available more. And then, that would make multiclassing into Warlock much *much* more diversified than "and then I dip into 1 level of hexblade because I want to hit with my charisma" and not really paying it a lot of thinking

Personally I think you can have some great mileage from dipping barb into warlock, specifically Bladelocks. Bladelocks can really benefit from resistance seeing their D8 hit die, and there are a areas where Warlocks fit nicely with Barbs (though admittedly small), with stuff like Eldritch Smite, Armor of Agathys and Mirror Image, as well as several instantaneous spells. You'll still be mostly a Warlock anyway, so you can switch between raging and concentrating on spells.
@malmasterson3890
@malmasterson3890 2 года назад
Yeah, 1 level Barb dip for warlocks is actually really good, even if you're not Bladelock, so it should definitely be higher than D & moreover bottom B top of C. Fighter will always be the better option for a martial dip, but I've used the 1 dip Barb with Fiendlock to great success.

I've made a Hexblade Undying Warlock with a few levels into Grave Cleric, and despite the multiple attribute dependency, they can still dump out a pretty decent amount of damage in one turn. Considering they are a Shadar-Kai from the new Multiverse book, they also have a pretty decent amount of mobility and survivability. It's not the greatest power build possible, but it's a pretty decent, well-rounded build so far.

I know people have already probably said it, but Warlock/Barbarian, a.k.a. "Shadow Tank", is not as awful as it may seem. In fact, I think it's quite a force to reckon with. It doesn't play the same as a regular Warlock, however it gives you a magically enhanced tank, with crowd-control and damage-over-time capabilities. The Dnd Shorts youtube page did a video on it along with other underrated multiclasses, but I'll give the sparknotes version. Spells that don't require concentration but benefit you in combat (Armor of Agathys being the best one), as well as the Warlock Invocations like Cloak of Flies, Lifedrinker, Eldritch Smite, and Relentless Hex (if you're a Hexblade Warlock) makes you a gnarly force to be reckoned with. On top of that, if you pick up the popular invocation Devil's Sight, as well as the Sentinel Feat, you can cast Darkness on yourself and lock a creature inside of it with you. Considering you have a larger amount of hitpoints than a classic Warlock, you're most definitely walking out alive. Granted, you can't rage and concentrate on darkness, but if you have an ally that can cast darkness on you, you're golden!

There is nothing saying that you can't use eldritch smite and divine smite on the same attack, so a hexblade with a few levels in paladin could do the following with the following: - Be 18 levels Hexblade Warlock and 2 levels Paladin - Greatsword Pact Weapon - Hexblade's Curse - Thirsting Blade - Eldritch Smite (5th level warlock slot) - Divine Smite (5th level warlock slot) - 1d8 Undead or Fiend Smite Target - Great Weapon Master Feat - Optional: Half Orc crit bonus 3d6+22 slashing + 5 necrotic +12d8 radiant +12d8 force You can do that again at the end of a short rest and have a couple of 1st level slots for emergency shields or cure wounds.

I'd say that the Warlock/Rogue multiclass settles as around A-tier for me, but only for one reason: Hexblade/Swashbuckler. Sure, most of the other subclasses don't mesh well enough, but Hexblades are essentially allowed to play the battlefield however they want, whenever they're paired with Swashbuckler. You can Eldritch Smite a lone enemy (with a Sneak Attack kicker), you can dash backwards and land Eldritch Blasts, you can Booming Blade, then dash away with help from Cunning Action and Fancy Footwork, like... the possible combos are endless. Plus, that +Cha to Initiative is just _crunchy._

Not sure if this works or not, but it seems that rules as written you could go 2 levels into hexblade warlock, then rouge all th way after, at warlock 2/rouge 3, you could pick up the thirsting blade invocation. You could also go five levels warlock, (or play a race that gives you darkness for free) and take the devils sight invocation, cast darkness, advantage on attack rolls, sneak attack, amd booming blade.
@demonderpz7937
@demonderpz7937 2 года назад
You said sneak attack requires you to get into melee. What I think you mean to say is that a sneak attack requires you to be using a weapon instead of casting spells. A sneak attack specifies using a ranged weapon or a finesse weapon and therefore requires a weapon attack. This works really well with the pact of the blade route for the warlock, and there are a lot of invocations for the warlock that compliments rogue very well, but at that point, it's less focused on the warlock and more focused on the rogue. I would argue that certain subclasses of the rogue are infinitely better for a warlock than others: for instance, arcane trickster requires too many stats to be good with a warlock, but mastermind would allow a warlock face to do extremely well in a more rp-centric campaign setting, assassin's level 3 ability assassinate allows any attack on a surprised creature to be a crit which would include eldritch blasts or spell attacks, thief's fast hands ability works well with scrolls, wands, or other magical objects which can synergize well with a warlock depending on the gm, and swashbuckler hexblade could be really strong (but swashbuckler with anything else would probably be garbage). I agree with your rating, however, I really like dipping into warlock with a rogue for one with the shadows and mask of many faces, and I understand the point of the video was mainly mixing in predominate warlock, not mixing in predominately other classes.

If you multi class warlock with assassin rouge you get the steady aim feature letting you get sneak attack damage on eldritch blasts which even at only 2d6 extra damage any level one warlock can do 1d10+2d6 damage consistently plus adding in hexblade gives you the hexblade curse which lets you crit on a 19 which can double that damage amount so it’s not too bad in my opinion and if you are a hexblade you can use this feature when you are next to an enemy to do the same thing with your sword it’s a very fun mechanic that I would highly recommend

Actually, bards are the 2nd best Counterspell / Dispel Magic users in the game. Abjuration Wizards can apply full proficiency bonus to these spells vs only 1/2 for bards and get both spells natively (without having to multi-class or use Magical Secrets). But you are correct that Lore bards are the best counterspeller's from levels 6-10.

Unironically, I think Warlock is a better dip for Sorcerer than Sorcerer is for Warlock. Because sorcerer's capstone is, to put it lightly, a fucking JOKE, and you only get an ASI at 19 you can easily fit in the 2 Warlock levels to pick up Eldritch + Agonizing blast and probably devil's sight. And depending on which subclass you go, you get Medium Armor and shield proficiency, and hexblades curse, adding even more damage onto your Eldritch Blasts which you can quicken freely, because you have so many sorcerer points and an extra 2 points to feed into them with your Pact slots.

I love warlock, but I find it nearly impossible to justify taking more than 7 levels of it before switching over to or back to my main class. The one time I'd take warlock beyond 7 is if I'm not mixing it with a full caster, I'm on fathomless warlock, and I'm going for the level 14 pond teleport trick. There's nothing quite like seeing the look on the DM's face when you pull up to the entrance to the dungeon, say "Hold on guys. I need to quicksave." and then pull out Mold Earth and a Decanter of Endless Water to make a pond.

But two *EXTRA* sorcery points, on top of the versatility provided by those two extra metamagic options, can make the *sorcerer* much more powerful and adaptable.

First of all, love your videos. Quick question. If you are planning on multi-classing.. would you take a Warlock level first to tell your story on how and why you got your powers then multiclass into other classes ( like ranger or fighter)? Going from Fighter or Ranger to Warlock in the midst of the campaign would be up to the Dm. Assuming you wouldn't want to just say. Oh.. level 6. I am going warlock. A fighter to Rogue is not really hard to explain. Just your thoughts on how you might go about it

If you are multiclassing thematically like that you should be working with your DM either way. If you are Multiclassing in a way to effectively build something like a customized class, you should be working with your DM anyways. Either way it's a narrative game, and the DM is the narrator.

So, I'm looking at this from a Primarily warlock with a Multiclass dip. So that's how I'd rank them. You're MOSTLY a warlock but you have some zest added in. For me: God: Sorcerer, Bard A: Cleric, Fighter, Druid B: Wizard, Ranger, Artificer C: Paladin, Rogue D: Barbarian, Monk Druid is an A tier for warlock. First off, Spike growth... Second off action to resummon your Improved familiar with wild companion. Third, Access to shields. 4th, Healing spells which combo very well with Warlock's recharging spells. I think its great. Not Sorcerer or Bard good. But imo, Druid and Cleric both should be A tier. Wow, Cleric above Fighter? Yes, you can value action surge all you want but Channel divinity, additional spells and spell slots, Armor proficiency matching or surpassing fighter for a multi class. At channel divinity's worst it can recharge your level 1 spell lots. Which is gravy. At its best you get Peace domain's ability to pick up allies and just run out of the threatened zone without taking opportunity attacks. Cleric is front loaded. its as front loaded as Warlock is which makes it one of if not general use best multi class out there. Plus getting access to spells like Command with a one level dip with Pact slots is great. We see how effective that is with Fiend pact. I'll sing the praises of cleric. Heck, 3 levels gets you Aid. Aid on a warlock is just amazing! 5th level aid with virtually no real cost? Sign me up! It might seem strange that I put Paladin in C tier... But I'm looking at this like list from a perspective of Warlock being the focus of the build, not Paladin. IF paladin was the focus I'd say it should be in A tier. But in how I'm thinking of it, Main class warlock just doesn't get nearly as much from Paladin as Ranger or Artificer. just 2 levels in Artificer gives access to Infusions which can be extremely helpful and Ranger just has a better spell list than Paladin does and better fighting styles that work with how the warlock wants to play. Ranger also gives expertise which is still valuable. Paladin just does what cleric does for warlock but worse. And I'd rather take 13 wisdom over 13 Strength. For me, if the multiclass gets spell slots at level 1 I'll value it higher than a class that doesn't. Fighter isn't in S tier because of this. Its very strong because of Action surge, but Spells from a 1 level dip and access to a wider spell pool is just far more valuable in many cases for me. Druid only gets the bottom of A tier because of its Armor restrictions and Wizard at the top of B because it offers no armor but its spell list and ritual casting can't be underestimated. 2 levels in wizard is never going to be bad for a warlock.
@Starcoffin
@Starcoffin 2 года назад
I agree with your list in all but one place. I put the fighter in A tier behind paladin. I don't think action surge and second wind for any warlock is as good as the spells, lay on hands, (no one even writes divine sense on the sheet), and smite of paladin.

i feel you unsold rouge warlock a bit since for one using bard for example about Expertise saying it like it was better as bard but you get it at 1st level as rouge, where as bard at 3rd and then both again at 6th for rouge and 10th for bard. If this was to be for multiclassing there be no chance nobody would go 10 levels into bard to get it the second time. But would more for rouge since rouge gives alot of great things threw its normal level ups. 2nd. while not as great as up close you can get sneak attack with ranged attacks also you just have to actually have the advantage clause to do so, but there are easy ways with the first few levels in rouge for that. while not as high if choose to be prely rouge its still decent damage and there is one big case if warlock and rouge is able access to the cantrips Green-Flame Blade and booming blade which are solid melee based cantrips and especially for booming blade since strike once all effects that would go off and now cunning action as bonus to disengage move back enough and they either stay or move close and take the extra damage. This can be done if gone trickster rouge but you wouldnt want to go down a spefic subclass for it since you can do these plus other cool stuff with these two classes

Coffeelock is alote harder because of a rule in Xanatar's Guide. Whenever you end a 24-hour period without finishing a long rest, you must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or suffer one level of exhaustion. It becomes harder to fight off exhaustion if you stay awake for multiple days. After the first 24 hours, the DC increases by 5 for each consecutive 24-hour period without a long rest. The DC resets to 10 when you finish a long rest. Only a level 9 warlock can remove exhaustion with the Greater Restoration spell.

Divine Smite + Eldritch Smite + Lifedrinker + Pact of the Blade + Hexblade's Curse + Hex + Improved Pact Weapon + Extra Attack Smite 3 times in one turn. Get Smites back on a short rest. Use Pally spell slots for hex. You ONLY use CHA for everything. It's bar none the best combo for melee damage. It gets real broken real fast. You're a monster by level 7. An absolute monster.

I actually played a campaign as a Horizon Walker (Melee) Ranger / Hexblade Warlock. It’s actually extremely effective. Your bonus actions don’t overlap that much, and it was one of the party’s heaviest damage dealers next to our fighter. Using Tasha’s ranger rules having Favored Foe so you don’t have to waste a BA or spell slot on Hex/Hunters mark is nice, and you get expertise. If you want a high initiative, a little bit of Swashbuckler Rogue could be funny since Rakish Audacity takes your charisma mod. There's a specialized use case for Barb/Warlock if you wanted to make something of a thorns build. Making Armor of Agathys last longer by using rage can be very effective and if you play a Fathomless warlock you can stretch AoA out even farther by using your reaction to reduce damage using your tentacle.

I run a Celestial Warlock/Light Cleric multiclass. He's designed to be a control/support character (thanks to the Light cleric class features and channel divinity), and the domain spells let him pull damage out of his ass if he's backed into a corner. That being said, there's a LOT of overlap between Celestial warlock and cleric in general, but ESPECIALLY Light cleric, cuz you're getting bonus radiant damage, resistance to radiant damage, and the Light cantrip from both subclasses lmao

I think the big appeal with cleric is adding armor to a non-hexblade warlock. And I'm sure that can be optimal with the right build, but since you aren't getting the defensive spells from cleric to compliment the AC, generally you just wanna go sorc with the moderately armored feat. As far as wizard, druid and ranger go, there definitely are builds where the classes get good synergy. Notably, wildfire druid and repelling blast turn you into a very effective way of controlling who stands where on the battlefield, undead warlock and fey wanderer ranger let you be an effective fear spreader, and hexvoker makes things go boom

Warlock as optimization baseline came from a tg post turned GTPforum post after DMG came out due to a massive argument about spell slot to dpr worth. It actually uses the full "resourceless", "with single feature/spell slot use", "with full short rest usage in 1", "fsr but no rest between 2 fights" and "full DMG adventuring day" breakdowns with a factor of 0.9 for range advantage if over 60 ft distance can be maintained for at least 1 round without disadvantage. Its to a degree why some people spam the idea that hex is a bad spell/trap (or because they fucked up their math), as having to upcast it on a pure warlock ends up not worth it for 2nd, 3rd and 4th slot levels AND can be worse on easy, medium and solo hard fights and at 5th level/with the long duration if you have another BA buff option and the DM doesnt allow a bag of rats/"store as long as you conc on it and the duration lasts" reapplication. Meanwhile Treantmonk i believe started using lock concentrating on hex as a baseline around release of Tome of Foes.

I built (but have not used) a Monk and Draconic Sorcerer multiclass character. The idea was that he went and joined the monastery seeking help in controlling his power. Because he was going to be a PC, he took to this combination rather well, distinguishing himself in the eyes of his teachers. But there was another student who, until the sorcerer’s arrival, had been the favored student at the monastery. This student grew resentful at the praise given to the sorcerer and at his own inability to progress beyond his current abilities. This led to the student making a warlock’s pact, mimicking the abilities of the sorcerer. This was intended to be the origin story for a antagonistic rival for the PC sorcerer.

Putting Fighter ahead of both Paladin and Sorcerer is definitely a hot take, but it's actually kind of an understandable one. For Paladins (at least for me), justifying a 13 Str. over a 13 Dex. is kind of hard to do, considering that Dex. is effectively the super-stat of 5E... notwithstanding the fact that this kind of build does pigeonhole PC's into a specific build-type (melee tank/smiter). As for Sorcerers, I would normally disagree in a vacuum, but in a real-world scenario, there is some merit to this viewpoint. For starters, some DM's can get grouchy when a PC like this breaks the action economy (which it can happen in the case of Necrolocks, via Animate Dead). Additionally, this build is short-rest dependent, making it dreadful to play if the DM isn't keen on allowing more than 2 short-rests per day (or does something specific to the PC in question to screw with their sleep). Finally on the matter, JCraw did mention that there's an inherent way to "nerf" the concept without banning the multiclass altogether (not that I agree with his interpretation, but w/e): ------------------------------------------------------- "DMs, if you allow multiclassing in your game and someone is tempted to abuse the combination of Flexible Casting and Pact Magic, remember this: one way to read the multiclass rules is that your Pact Magic slots are useless for any non-warlock thing besides casting spells." Source: mobile.twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/1029177242985742337?lang=en ------------------------------------------------------- I can kind of get behind the idea that non-martial warlocks are basically ranged control-casters, but as it relates to the Bard specifically, other than maybe College of Valor or College of Swords (to specifically shore up any inherent martial weaknesses there may be), I can't really think of a reason for a Warlock to multiclass into Bard, other than for maybe a 2 level dip at most (since Jack of all Trades is pretty good on its own; espec. for Initiative checks and Counterspell/Dispel checks). I'd rather see a Rogue/Warlock build at that point, if for no other reason than for the Warlock to be able to have a guaranteed way to disengage from melee when needed.

When wizards of the coast starts designing the monk worth a damn, that's when they will stop getting shit for being a bad class. The fact that out of ALL the subclasses only the Way of Mercy is the one that's okay is a problem. The class itself is a bad base to build all those archetypes from, and they really need to reconsider it's design with 5.5/6e in 2024. The fact that you could toss the monk features into a fighter archetype and it be better than an entire class says a lot.

I don't know if anyone one will see this but I think the best multiclass for monk is ranger. Best argument to make for that is maxing wisdom is vary potent specifically with Astral self monks, grabbing first level feat level feat for unarmed strike damage increase. Then for ranger, gloom stalker or even fey wanderer, you might get a serpents tongue or even increase dps ten fold. Swarmkeep, horizon walker, and fey wanderer get bonus damage for attack rolls. Not to mention getting a spell list. You'd become a God their explorer and skirmisher. This song I praise monk for multiclassing with ranger as God tier

If you go Astral monk and ranger, it would probably be worth getting the druidic fighting style. That way you can get shileighly. Use your wis mod for your main attack and damage while helping you overcome most resistances by doing force damage. Plus you could get a utility or flavor cantrip to complement your build. Getting guidance as a way to flavor your advice to having a statistical impact or getting primal savagery as a call back to something in your backstory. Lots of fun getting some cantrips can be for your build.

@TheEmperorGulcasa
@TheEmperorGulcasa 2 года назад
I dunno about Fighter being that high. Certain builds, mostly Hexblade, get along excellently with fighter. For a cantrip or spell focused Warlock though, the fighter early features don't do that much. Fighting styles and such don't help eldrich blast or spells. Action surge is great, but it's most great for firing multiple leveled spells at once and Warlock has the lowest supply of spell slots to fire off and you hindered the spell slot progression with fighter levels. Warlock's base spell list is also one of the more limited ones, so you have less options to fire off two high impact spells anyways. This is just asking to burn all your resources in one fight. Sure it comes back on short rest but unless you get tons of short rests, it's still burning a lot of limited resources really fast. Sure eldriche blast isn't running out, but action surge is again more maximized if your two action are both high impact and eldrich blast shot is like literally the baseline average action to take in combat. So while a few warlock builds really love fighter, I don't know if most patrons or builds really get that much out of the multiclass especially for making you more MAD and slowing warlock feature and slot progression. Paladin has largely the same problems of being good for a specific Warlock build. But it's synergy I think is stronger than Fighter by a long shot for said builds. The most obvious thing is nuclear smite. Smite gives a powerful alternate use for your slots. You still don't have a lot, but Paladin still gives you some more of it's own and you can now nova like all hell. Since Eldrich Smite can be used in conjunction with Divine Smite you can dump almost all your slots into smites in a single blow. Eldrich smite synergizes with Fighter's action surge a lot worse since it's locked to once a turn. Aura if you go that deep into Paladin helps with concentration a lot.

Fey Wanderer Ranger should have bumped up the ranger class. Perhaps it's not the most powerful warlock build, but adding WIS to CHA skill checks is extremely good for RP-heavy campaigns. B tier amongst the other D-tier subclass combos. (Fun build was Rogue 11 for reliable talent, hexblade warlock 3 to use Cha for everything, Fey Ranger 3 for other worldly glamour, and Paladin 2 for divine smite. +22 made a min 32 on the three CHA skills) Yeah monks....They're good...but all their subclasses are lackluster. In the same way that fighters are potatoes, monks are crackers in a charcuterie board. They're good and tasty....but are never the center of attention. Like, proficiency in all saving throws is amazing, stunlocking is bonkers...but even the best monk-subclass/cracker is still lackluster when compared to subclasses of any other class.

For people arguing that “RAW, Sorlock could generate spell slots with Font of Magic before naturally getting access to them”, that only applies to 4th and 5th level Spell Slots. RAW, a Sorcerer cannot hold more Sorcery Points than their level, which prevents them from just stocking up on infinite Sorcery Points. The Metamagic Adept feat just lets you hold two more on top of the max. So be glad that most DMs decide to remove the cap of Sorcery Points to even allow Coffeelock, because that shouldn’t be a thing normally.

martial arts is a ribbon feature, a monk's power comes from dedicated weapon and focused aim(if your dm is a doodoo head and won't let you use those go kensei and do it that way) but I agree they're not a good pick for a warlock paladins are not a melee class they're a support class and only serve to bolster the warlock's control capabilities ranger spell list is often overlooked but I agree you need specific subclasses and spells for it to work swashbuckler is the only reason to multiclass into rogue wizard may make multiclassing difficult but the massive variety of spells and potency of its features imo puts it on par with sorcerer also a counterpoint to MADness as a lot of people seem to be confused, the way I see it it should be renamed to many-attribute-dependent as all classes want 3 or 4 good stats: Artificers and wizards want Int>Dex/Str>Con>Wis as they want armor to keep them from getting hit, strong saves to keep their spells up, and to avoid charms distracting them Barbarians and fighters want str>con>dex>wis as they want hit points, enough dex to fill out their medium armor, and also don't want to be mind controlled while holding a telephone pole as a weapon Bards, warlocks, and sorcerers want cha>dex>con>wis for the same reasons as the artificer Cleric wants wisdom>str/dex>con depending on subclass will want to fill out that strength requirement or dex for armor Druid wants wisdom, dex, and con, same as the monk funnily enough paladins/rangers both want good armor and good saves for their spells but at least ranger doesn't have to worry about strength or charisma except for very specific builds

Some points: 1. Ranger should be above barbarian, and probably in C tier at least. Several of the ranger features & subclasses work well for hexblades. Favored foe works with EB, and it also gives 1 expertise and a fighting style (probably used on defense or Druidic Warrior.) Again, it's probably not a "good" choice, but it's FAR better than Barbarian. 2. Artificer should be lower than wizard, and probably top of C tier. Everything artificer gives you, wizard gives you more/better. In all the ways that Wizard doesn't synergize with warlock perfectly, Artificer synergizes worse. Wizard gets subclass sooner. Gives more cantrips. they have the same lvl 1 spell slot prog, no one dips only 1 lvl into artificer, so wizard has much better spell slot prog. 3. Rogue should be bottom of A tier. While the main gimmick of rogue (SA) is only good for hexblade, it's still quite good, especially with the increased crit range of the curse. Cunning action and expertise are also quite good. Otherwise, pretty solid rankings.

One important subtlety you’re missing about Barbarians: just because they can’t cast spells while raging doesn’t mean they can’t use spell slots! Hexblade and Celestial Warlocks both benefit greatly from a Barbarian dip. Here’s a common Ragelock tactic: Round 1: Cast Armor of Agathys, then rage. AoA is a non concentration spell, so it definitely stays active while raging. Plus, rage resistance allows your AoA to last waaay longer. Round 2 onwards: Pick a melee reliant enemy and wear them down with a combination of good Barbarian offense and Armor of Agathys/Rage defense. Should you crit, use your remaining spell slot to Eldritch Smite.

Alrighty, I'll be the guy to say it; A good rule of thumb when multi-classing if your looking for optimization, any class(es) that share a stat with your base class is usually going to be a good option. This means Bard, Sorcerer, Paladin, Warlock are good options for CHA casters, while classes like Monk, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue are good options for DEX based classes, or melee combat. Subclasses and feats obviously can influence this role and synergy A swords bard, swashbuckler rogue, with the alert feat is going to have more combat viability in melee then something like a lore bard, and shadow sorcerer. A class may be good on its own, or intermixed in some specialty but not every class is going to function the same as the other when paired up. Barbarian fighter is a good multiclass, but barbarian wizard isn't

I think you put barbarian in the wrong tier. Yea sure you can't cast spells while raging or concentrate on them but if you use the non-concentration buff spells that the warlock gets access to like Armor of agathys, mirror image, fire shield (fire genie and fiend) you kinda turn yourself into a bruiser melee warlock like the warlock paladin combo. This makes reckless attack a win-win, you hit them for damage, they hit you for half damage and your "thorns" like spells take affect. It works with any barbarian subclass and warlock subclass though genie or fiend warlock work better. You even have the option not to rage and do your usual control spells. I'd put barbarian in B tier for a mainly warlock multi-class personally. It does compete with paladin but I'd say it has some cool tricks rather than I swing and smite. Don't tell me you don't want to get hit for 30 damage halved to 15 and then deal 2d8+25 back on your opponent's turn, if they have extra attack... even better take another 15 damage and deal another 2d8+25 for 4d8+50 on an enemies turn?
