its a great watch but I'm still on the fence with it , I'm loving what tag heur is doing, but I voted for the Tudor LMAOoo, but I want a Monaco or the glass box Carrera right now, and I’m not on the fence about that at all
Agreed. I feel like it's a combination of this being a very slim price segment that Tudor dominates, as nearly all of it's watches fall into it, and I feel like Teddy's audience are generally big Tudor fans.
I went grey for Omega. Seamaster 300m for 4100, Speedmaster Racing 40mm for 3100, and METAS Constellation 36MM for 3000 USD. Got the Seamaster and Speedy in 2023. The connie was in 2024. All were unworn/new condition!

I'd take longines over Tudor overall. But I'm surprised grand Seiko has so many watches available at that price point good to know. I thought they were priced higher
I think that is a common misconception about Grand Seiko, given the different tiers within the brand. Their collections can be confusing, but I think another reason for people having this feeling is the brand's recent bolstering of the Evolution 9 collection to catch up with their other collections. With the unveiling of calibers like the 9RA2 and 9SA5, there is now a higher-end tier that someone can grow into with the brand that was missing for years while still giving more approachable entry points. Quartz pieces from them start under 3k, and many of their 4Hz mechanical options can be found for under 5k. Even some Spring Drives like the SBGA465 and the SBGA429 are at or around 5k with the 9r65. These have become some of the best points of value in luxury watches at the moment given their lack of price increases compared to other brands (knock on wood).

Just to let you know, these are only list prices. Grand Seiko can be commonly found with a discount at most AD's and you can find insane deals on websites like Chrono24 from Japan. Even when factoring in import tax, there are great deals to be found.

I can't believe how people chose Cartier Tank XL over the smaller formats. The XL is a caricature that in no way captures the subtle elegance of the Tank
Cartier sucks in general, its like the gucci of watches. Its something poor people buy to pretend to be rich not knowing what makes a good product to begin with.

Why should that be the case when there are a number of very good watches with Swiss movements in them for less than $1,500.00? So how is it that Tudor and Grand Seiko rules when one is overpaying to get the Tudor or GS?

I’m not saying anything about the quality or value of any watches. Just simply pointing out the parameters of the argument; a $1500 watch of any quality or from any brand just doesn’t fit in the argument.
@@davidcooper1201 Grand Seiko is significantly higher quality than any brands under $6,000. In terms of quality alone, GS is only matched in the extreme luxury range ($10,000+).

@@italianstallion3130I wouldn’t say that’s the only reason. 99% of people aren’t going to drop $5k on a watch, any watch not just Tudor. I like Tudor’s aesthetics as a daily driver, a watch to actually go to the beach, diving into a swimming pool, etc. The Rolex is on the wrist for a quiet dinner and night out.
Teddy ts a fellow 6.25in wrist i would love if you did an on wrist of a few different watches that you feel work best with your wrist size. Would love to get a good idea of some i can consider!

As I have gotten more broad with my tastes, the size of cases I have expressed interest in has also broadened. I now have watches from 34mm-44mm in my collection, and I have become less rigid about the entire concept as collecting has become more fun when I open it up to more choices.

Very unpopular opinion: while they are great watches in essentially every way, I find the snowflake hands on Tudor watches to be so aesthetically unpleasing that I can't see anything else when I look at them.
Same for me. i recognise that the watches seem to be made from quality materials, but the Tudor aesthetic is really boring, and that hand is frankly crude, i couldn't wear that.
The black bay is a great daily driver. I have two of them. Legibility is top notch, great lume, heritage, versatility, hard to argue with them. People love to hate on Tudor but it just seems contrarian hipster posing.
A little surprised the Cartier Tank Must XL didn’t go further. Cartier brand, the best looking watch in the final 16, automatic movement, date and second hand on a tank, and a beautiful leather strap. Would have thought it warranted a place in the final four.
The Longines Zulu time is great although the lugs are stupidly long. But this is specifically the steel and gold version, the rest are in the below price bracket. The S&G is not a particularly good variant.
Invicta Pro Diver would win. Stainless steel, proven NH35a movement, 20 bar, durable case and bracelet, wearable, and looks great. Yes it's an homage but most dive watches are. I wear a Hamilton khaki automatic most of the time but last week I put this on and thought "what a great watch".
Picked up a amzwatch's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
I just got the Black Bay 58 GMT, it's on my wrist right now. I think out of the many watches I have, this is the ultimate one and done watch. The METAS certification, 200m WR, true GMT functionality, screw pin on-the-fly microadjust bracelet just makes it the watch you have to take off. The bezel makes the watch look dressy too, so it can be worn for a nice dinner too.
That BB58 GMT is a beautiful watch with 2 more useful complications than my BB58 blue (date & GMT). Add to it a better clasp, & it’s a great all-around sports watch.
It’s a fun concept, I like the idea of you doing ones of the competitions for every price range, going up $1k at a time. It could be a whole series of videos.
Great vid as always Teddy. I would love to see a video of some watches under 2,000 that come with fully integrated factory silicone bracelets. A silicon bracelet is so comfortable to me on wrist. I wish more companies would incorporate them.
With the level of same brand watches going head to head this does make me curious about a tournament of a brands models, Grand Seiko especially having polls for best model would be interesting to see the rankings.

I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the amzwatch's watches are the most intriguing.
Let's face it Tudor and Grand Seiko understand the $5000 price point in watches better than any other company, striking design, refined bracelets, size options to accommodate a variety of wrists, planting the hook that opens the door to that next purchase of maybe spending five figures 🤔 great marketing and value found in both brands 😎
The bias towards Tudor blows my mind...a watered down Submariner homage over the GS GMT is absurd, and the Longines S&G Zulu Time offers so much more value than the the BB58 gmt. It shows that the Rolex marketing halo that they're putting on Tudor really seems to be doing the trick
Not to mention they all look the same. The most boring job in the watch industry must be designing those Tudor dials. Talk about milking it. Most of the Black Bays don’t even have a date window to make the job easier. But people go nuts over the same design year after year so maybe that tells something. But I’m not sure about who.
Can't really afford these watches myself, but from looks alone, I personally think there are alot of better looking watches for a lot cheaper. I expect the specs to be better on these compared to a watch in the $500-2000 range, but for me nothing is more important than a beautiful dial.
I was voting for Grand seiko on instagram and honestly dont think its a fair match up... But it is for the pricepoint... I would definitely love to see the Grand seiko sport line in the future match ups!

Yes a nice choice at #1 (full retail)…but I was fortunate enough to get a brand new Omega SMP 300 at $3900 on sale…full paper’s warranty box etc…I was lucky in that one but wouldn’t trade it for a Tudor GMT !
For me its definitely pelagos 39. Titanium, light, 39mm perfect for small wrists. Perfect daily watch for myself. I dont think i am gonna wear my other watches for a long time
The best thing for actual time-keeping has to be the Casio F91W. Cheap, reliable, precise, low service cost. Available everywhere to everybody. Alternatively a Casio G-Shock DW-5600. Everything above that is jewellery.
I like these kinds of videos but if we keep going up in the budget it will get diluted easily and may get boring real quick.We can do different types of competition such as best rectangular watches, best gmt with white dial, best field watch with blue dial etc.

Tudor and GS dominating and being in top 4. No surprises there - they are the absolute best value in this price range, probably with only Longines following closely behind.
Kind of interesting that the BB 58 GMT is #1 as I don’t think many people have ever seen it in person or tried it on. Not surprised though as I have one on order.
Tudor Black Bay, CHECK! Master chronometer rating, CHECK! True travelers GMT, CHECK! Under $5000, CHECK! Not sure there is a better watch out there. It was fun to watch the tournament. But, the outcome was clear from the get go. Keep up the great content Teddy.

I love Balls. They do not get enough love. Engineer Balls, diver Balls, world traveler Balls, there are Balls for every purpose, and they have a great assortment of colorways, black balls, cream balls, green balls , tiffany blue balls and easy to see a Ball in the dark with the iridium markers. I take my Ball where ever I go.
I think you should do price as well as style of watch. I know segments it further but would be easier to compare apples to apples. Winners in each segment can then go up against each other.

Kind of an odd premise, that there exists a “best” watch. All these watches are roughly equal in terms of accuracy, durability, etc. The differences are which suit an individual’s preferences and serve as an expression of their personal style.
Grand Seikos are great but being more dressy and less brand recognition, it makes sense that Tudor won this round. They own the $3k-$5k range right now. High quality tool watches you can wear anywhere with great brand recognition. Hard to beat. For all the same reasons why under $1k it’s Seiko, under $3k it’s Longines, under $10k it’s Omega and under $20k it’s Rolex. Tons of beautiful watches in each range but when someone spends a lot of money (relative to their own financial situation) they want a great brand and durability they can wear anywhere without fear of damaging their expensive watch.
GS edges Omega at under $10k regarding both finishing and movements. Rolex should be competing within that same 5-10k category but they have unnecessarily overinflated prices. Mass produced watches LARPing as cottage industry via marketing campaigns lol. Also I don't think non-enthusiasts really recognize tudor... they might think you're just wearing a fake rolex if anything
@@af8828 I agree with you for sure. But again, brand recognition of Omega puts it over Grand Seiko for most non enthusiasts. As for Tudor, I think it’s gaining recognization for non enthusiasts now. Some people might think it’s a fake Rolex but they are way less flashy so I’m sure most people don’t even notice them. Most non enthusiasts are wearing mall watches, GShocks or Rolexes if they can afford them (or fakes if they can’t lol).
@@brett233 again, I think its our bias as enthusiasts to assume people know omega. I was speaking to my non enthusiast friends, one who was able to get a datejust, and who was looking to get a rolex but ADs are snobs, and they had no idea what omega is. I had to do the work of telling them lol

If this tournament was held 3 months from now Grand Seiko would probably win. It’s just hyped right now. And the fact that the BB54 is not there alludes to this even more IMO. Still amazing what these two brands were able to achieve in the last few years.
I own a Tudor FXD, GS Lake Suwa and a Montblanc/Minerva 106166. People saying Tudor buyers can’t afford a Rolex really look dumb. Maybe some people like Tudor’s design and far superior clasps?
