I really like this video, there's something about this guy that just makes me believe every thing he says. He comes across really frank and trustworthy.
Well, thank you... Some of our old videos need some updating. You Tube screws them up a little and I think they degrade them as they get older. I suppose they want posters to keep putting up new content. Sorry for the late reply, You Tube did not notify me that you had commented. Thanks for watching. I recently purchased my very first down comforter and was dreading send it to the dry cleaners. This video is so helpful and I am certainly trying to wash it myself using his tips! Thank you

I got lucky finding a goose down comforter at a second hand shop and will follow these simple and clear Directions! Thank you. I like the way you present this video, with the bricks behind you.
Yeah. Great info for people who are scared to even attempt to clean feather blankets. I' ve laundered mine for decades. 3 tips - 1 is baking soda alone works well if you don't want to use bleach after all gardeners have used b.soda to kill all kinds of things. 2 I clean in the summer months when the heat of the weather helps in drying those last stubborn clumps oh and fluffing by hand as was mentioned is a friend. I have two blankets per bed no winter time washing. 3 also works on feather coats - need to turn inside out and just hang to allow the final little wet spots to air dry Good video
Thanks! I have a nice down comforter.. but when it needed cleaning I thought that down couldn't be washed so took it to a dry cleaner. They didn't even want to do it, and charged me an arm and a leg, and when I got it back I wrapped it well and stored it; I haven't had the desire to go through that again! Now I feel I can put it in a duvet cover and actually use it, knowing I can wash it when needed.
When storing, make sure the item can breathe, other wise it can rot. Thanks for watching, be sure to check out or 150 + how to videos here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
ohh no, i didnt know it was a carcinogenic! thank you sooo much for that info! I had mine cleaned recently and paid a fortune, I am not going to do that again, thanks!

Thank you for making this video!! I finally bought a down alternative duvet for about $75 a few months ago. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought for my bed and I’ve been so scared to wash it because I was worried it’d get all clumpy, not dry right, and not be soft anymore. I wonder why they don’t put a little paper with instructions in the packaging?
Synthetic comforters and pillows can bunch up. We can't speak for other comforter manufacturers as to why they don't provide better washing instructions. Thanks for watching - check out our 150+ bedding tips here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

Thank you! (Video saved) I just purchased a new comforter, and it almost has a "crinkly" sound to it when you move it. Now I know its not the highest quality, but I've never encountered this before! Ive gotten used to it, but its driving my husband crazy!! I haven't laundered it yet, are there any helpful tips you could share to hopefully shut my comforter up? 😅
The thread count you likely have on your comforter is 220 percale fabric. It will sound scratchy. If you wash it, this should reduce this sound. Thanks for watching our videos - check out or 150 + bedding tips here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/ .
We have never tried this as we found it unnecessary, however many people will throw a tennis ball or 2 in the drier. Thanks for watching, be sure to checkout our 150+ care tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/.
Can you wash out the perko chemicals/ smell from the dry cleaners? I have aired mine out for more than a week and the down quilt still smells. Was thinking of just buying a new down quilt and washing it next time.
We think you can, but were not 100% certain. Washing is a better alternative. Thanks for watching, be sure to check out our 150+ bedding tip videos found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/ .

Hi there! I am not sure if you guys will see this comment in time, but long story short I bought a used down comforter in great condition. I of course wanted to wash it, so I washed it with warm water in a at home machine. When I took it out, it smelled like wet dog. It was in the dryer all day long and it still smelled awful. I rushed it to the dry cleaners! After having it dry cleaned, it did not smell at first. Then I laid it out all day on a drying rack, to let it breathe and that awful smell came back. Tomorrow morning, I plan to take it to the laundry mat and do exactly what your video said to do. I am thinking I should add two cups of white vinegar along with the bleach. I read that vinegar helps with mildew. I am worried that this comforter is ruined and mildew is starting to grow within the feathers. I am at a loss. Do you think this comforter is done for? I appreciate any feedback you have! Thank you, Sydney
Sorry that you are having this issue. Vinegar is a great cleaner and is gentle on the down. I might try that 1st. If this doesn't take care of the odor, try the bleach. As we have noted bleach can be a little hard on the cotton shell and the down, but it is an effective sanitizer.
I just bought my first Martha Stewart down comforter and I love it says dry clean only but I am high risk for breast cancer so I will launder my blanket and take a risk ...
We don't recommend dry cleaning for that reason. Thanks for watching, please check out our 150+ bedding tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
I like using a centrifuge but only see them in older laundromats. I'm told the newer commercial washers take their place. With their high speed spin cycle. But my down piece is neither comforter or duvet. It's thicker, about 4in's. Very squared with cotton piped edges. Compartments with a feathered, squared edged, sort of barrier sewn on its edge & all sides.(2in) Looks approx. queen sized. Can I clean it the same way?
We would think so, it depends on the filling and construction of the item. Thanks for watching. Be sure to check out our 150 + "How to Videos" here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/.
We sell LeBlanc linen wash. It is a mild detergent with no bleach or caustic chemicals. It is a little pricy, but an excellent detergent. A down comforter can last as long as 15+ years. A lot of it's life depends on the person sleeping under it. We don’t have laundromats, can I use a home washing machine or wash without a machine in a big tub of water along with detergent and bleach? It can dry in the sun.
You can, but the larger drums in commercial washing machines and dryers are the best. You can put it in the sun, but you will want to ensure it is dry as it will mildew if not. Be sure to check out our 150+ bedding articles here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Thanks for watching, we just can't say as most detergents and whiteners contain bleach derivatives that may change the color. Please checkout our 150+ bedding related tips and care instructions here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Goose feather down can I do this at home I really need to hear it from you . I trust your channel as well but I m unsure of how to take care of this because it's very pricey to dry clean
Yes you can! The problem with dry cleaning is the down absorbs the PERC and it leaves a residue on the comforter which you have next to your month each and every night. Be sure to checkout our 150+ bedding tips here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Hello luis, our down comforter also says dry clean only. Did you try washing it as mentioned in the video? Did it make the comforter clumpy or it came out fine? Thank you!
I bought a new down comforter but forget to lay it out for several hours to let it fluff up and instead used it almost straight away that night. It's still flat. Will this tennis ball trick and drying it work?
You comforter may not have a lot of down in it. You don't need to lay it on the bed to bring loft in it, just grab it my an edge and vigorously shake it. If that doesn't bring air back into it, your comforter doesn't have enough down in it to provide loft. If it is keeping you sufficiently warm, your all set. If not, you may want to ensure your next one has more down.
Yes we do use laundry detergent. If the stains don't come out and you are using a duvet cover, no one will know. Be sure to checkout our 150+ bedding tips here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Yes, however we are not sure if Vinegar will kill dust mites. Although Vinegar is a great cleaner. Be sure to check out our 150+ bedding tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Yes they will. We don't recommend putting a pillow away damp, but a slightly damp down comforter will dry out as it is significantly thinner than a pillow. Thanks for watching, please check out our 150 + bedding tips here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

Bleach is hard on cotton and down as we explained, however if you are washing the comforter once a year, we think you should be ok. Disclaimer - bleach is hard on cotton and down - however it does help with the yellow spots you can get on a comfort and it kills dust mites. How ever if your concerned with using it, don't. Thanks for watching.
I don’t know if your still active on RU-vid but I’m at boyfriends house, he has a down comforter and I spilled ecig juice on it. It’s like an oil. I dabbed a little laundry detergent on it, let it sit, then I scrubbed it and really massaged in the detergent. and rinsed with water but because the comforter is dark grey I can’t tell if I got the stain out. The water made it dark and the water spread so now the water spot is about a foot long. I’m hoping I got the stain out and I’m drying the comforter in a dryer on low heat. It’s a small dryer but since it’s only one spot I’m hoping that it’s okay. Please help me or reply!!! He just got it dry cleaned and spent all this money and I don’t want him to come home and see I left a giant stain. I just want to know if there’s anything else I should be doing!
We see no reason what so ever why you could not wash it. However, we recommend checking with the manufacturer. We see no reason why it would. But please don't hold us responsible if it doesn't work. Hello Jeff, our down comforter also says dry clean only. Did you try washing it as mentioned in the video? Did it make the comforter clumpy or it came out fine? Thank you
Yes, it will just take a little longer to dry. Thanks for watching, be sure to checkout our 150+ care tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/.
@@Verolinens I got the info, 84% US household have them. It's a huge number, but goes unnoticed, because they are not parasitic and do not burrow under the skin. They just eat our dead skin flakes. This is the info I wanted, but of course, you want to make it look worse than it actually is.
Were not sure what to say. If there isn't one available it only means the dry time will be a little longer. Check out our 150 bedding tips here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
If your doing this with a home drier, it can take a long time. This is why we recommend taking it to a Laundromat, as the driers are often much larger than those found in a home. Be sure to check out our 150+ "How to Video" found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
A lot of it depends on how you treat it. If you have pets in bed or you eat in bed. It will need cleaning more often. We think for most satiations, cleaning it every 6 months to a year should do the trick. Thanks for watching. The washing machines at laundromat that I take my comforter do not have a temp setting. I just use a warm water setting. Please check out some of our other bedding tips videos and articles (150+) found here verolinens.com/how-to-tips.
I prefer an acidic wash like hair shampoo plus peroxide (3-1/2 percent). That plus the warm water plus the dryer heat is going to get rid of mites. You can also run the comforter through a medium dryer BEFORE you wash it to kill mites.
Were not sure what you are questioning. If you are referring to wear, comforters typically wear out first in the area that is directly over your shoulders, this is due to the friction created between the down clusters as you toss and turn. Thanks for watching.
Sorry, it is not necessary. The extractor just speeds up the drying process. Please see our 150 + bedding related articles found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/ .
No, however the next time you wash it, try a quick rinse with vinegar, then wash it as normal. Be sure to checkout our 150+ bedding tips here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

Were not sure we agree. We recommend a mild detergent. Detergent will wash away some of the oil in the down, but the comforter is only cleans ever so often. There are no laundromats around me. I have to travel about 20 min. away in a not so great area, and the laundromat is cheap and dirty. I don't like to go there at all.
I agree, laundromats are dirty. There is no way in hell im putting my white down comforter in a public washer or dryer I don’t care what size they are. Some people are nasty the will launder animal blankets and dirty diapers. Gross no thanks. Just dry it longer at home in your regular sized dryer.
