I've been thinking about buying a Karcher K2. In my 70s, I've little experience of using something like this and have been wavering - to buy or not to buy. This has demonstrated how simple and effective it is to use without requiring a lot of strength. Brilliantly demonstrated! I will now go and buy with confidence, thank you.

I got two lances with my Karcher , one turbo & a standard one plus other attachments including the circular patio & garden furniture cleaner head . I also got a small tank attachment for my standard lance ,& one larger tank on the Karcher ,for adding any car or patio shampoo + treatments supplied by Karcher . These mix in the lance tank or the main chemical mixing tank on Karcher pressure wash machine , there is no need to apply separate chemicals .as the Karcher will do it automatically if stuff is added to tanks if required . I myself don’t use my pressure washer on my motorcycles ,I only use the turbo lance on the patio ,every ten years when the moss gets too thick & slippy . So only used the pressure washer once since I bought it about 10 years ago . The moss is thick & slippy again so I will be using it again this year , no chemicals just the turbo lance & water. 👍

Best to quickly power wash the worse off before using patio magic as it takes weeks to really do its deep cleaning work which lasts for months. Also it’s better to apply patio magic on an overcast day or in the evening to avoid it drying out too quickly. Or, as I do, lay a tarpaulin over the treated area which helps prevent it drying out too quickly and also protects from wandering pets and other wildlife from coming into contact. Win Win.
@FixitwithFowler
@FixitwithFowler 3 месяца назад
I did consider that after the test. If I had cleaned the patio first to remove the worst of the dirt and then apply the patio magic, the results might have been different!
@towkukus
@towkukus Месяц назад
that's actually a good comparison. In my opinion the bigger karcher attachment isn't too bad if used regularly. I bet cleaning the pation next month with 1st and second method would make the spinning yellow attachment win. Same results, and quicker!
@FixitwithFowler
@FixitwithFowler Месяц назад
The bigger attachment (karcher surface cleaner) is perfect for maintaining a clean patio as it contains the mess/water whilst cleaning. However, for the first clean of the patio, in my opinion, the dirt blaster lance was best.

I've been using Patio Magic for 15 years and my patio is spotless. The secret is PATIENCE. When used as a cleaner for the first time, you have to wait for a couple of months for it to work properly. I use it twice a year, once in early Spring and once in Autumn, applied with a watering can, 1:4. This way your patio will say LIKE NEW all year round, I guarantee it! And it doesn't roughen-up the patio slabs like a pressure washer does.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I wasn't impressed with the patio magic, but maybe just waiting a few days was a bit optimistic 🤔.

I agree. There's another video on RU-vid showing Patio Magic results after 4, then 19, then 40 days, and you can clearly see that it's a product that gives a long term cumulative effect. Patience is all that's required, then once you're got over the first season, future seasons will just be a maintenance job as all the hard cleaning will have been done in the first year.

@gillj185
@gillj185 10 месяцев назад
The instructions on the reverse of the container make it clear that it kills green mould and algae within typically 2-4 days, and helps to gently clean the treated surfaces in the following WEEKS and MONTHS. That's why I said that patience is the key word here. The point is that it's not designed to be a general purpose cleaner. The cleaning effect is like a secondary benefit. Once the patio is clean (typically after a couple of months), applying the product twice a year keeps it that way. When I first tried it all those years ago, I tested it against my neighbours pressure washer. We did a side-by-side test of 1 square metre each, and after a couple of months the two squares were absolutely identical. Also, in the case of driveway pavers, it doesn't disturb the sand between the pavers, whereas pressure washing requires the driveway to be re-sanded every time.
@FixitwithFowler
@FixitwithFowler 10 месяцев назад
I think if i was using it again, i would clean the worst of the dirt from the patio and then apply the Patio Magic.
@srg5405
@srg5405 3 месяца назад
The problem, with using a pressure washer is that over time the surface of the slab is damaged which produces minute holes and places for the algae to collect. Long term it is much better to use Patio Magic to keep the surface of the slabs undamaged. Patio Magic is not an immediate fix but does work given some time to do it's work! I know as I have been using it for years.
@FixitwithFowler
@FixitwithFowler 3 месяца назад
Well, since i did the video, that slab is still by far the worst out of the three. Maybe it would be better if the slab was cleaner to start with!
@peterjohnson1739

Patio Magic is primarily an algaecide (Benzalkonium Chloride ) so you'd expect it to be good on patios with a lot of green (algae) on them. To expect it to shift mud and dirt (which are particles of solid material) without some form of mechanical action is perhaps optimistic.

To be fair to the biocide, I don't think it's supposed to actually clean the patio slabs. It is to kill moss and algae and to keep moss and algae at bay for long time. So, for best results I would suggest: 1. Use the high pressure nozzle to do a first clean and really get the slabs back to near new condition 2. After you have cleaned the slabs, if this area is prone to moss and algae (maybe it's in a low sun part of your property), then use a watering can to cover the area with the biocide in the correct dosage and with eye and breathing protection! The biocide will stop build-up of moss etc. for a number of months to perhaps a couple of years as it stays in and around the slabs 3. Use the patio cleaner head to give the slabs a clean before each re-application of the biocide (maybe once every year or two). By doing this yearly or so you will stop the build up of other dirt so that the slabs don't get as dirty as they are at the beginning of the video.

In my experience either method with the Karcher damages the mortar between slabs - after 2 or 3 uses we had to have our patio re-mortared. If using the Karcher you need to use the nozzle and aim carefully not to hit mortar.

@PsBandofMen
@PsBandofMen 2 месяца назад
@FixitwithFowler it takes off the top layer exposing the substructure to premature wear and tear along with damging pollutants. Once you start doing this you will find you need to do it more and more frequently. Concrete slabs are the one of the easiest to damage using high pressure washers. If you don't believe me of want more info google it

@PsBandofMen
@PsBandofMen 2 месяца назад
@FixitwithFowler had they been pressure washed prior to you doing it? If that is the case then they were probably already damaged. If you run your hand over the top and they are rough or pitted then there's nothing you can rectify. But generally speaking it shouldn't be done. Different types of slabs are more able to take it.

Don't use any of the methods shown here. Pressure washing is slow messy and tedious. Patio Magic is over priced and pretty ineffective or at best very slow. What you should be using is Deosan Red Label Hypochlorite. It comes in 20 l cans and can be diluted with water 2:1 or ever 3:1. Just water it on (or spray) and just walk away. You will be amazed. Even better it's dirt cheap. Only downside is it smells of bleach but this goes away after a couple of day. It also acts as a weak killer. ..Also this method is very quick. water it on and 20 mins later you have a spotless patio. If you want to buy some, find an agricultural supplies outfit, of possible a swimming pool maintenance supplier..
