Can new corydoras and plecos eat the good bacteria in my tank and throw off the balance? Ive noticed the water is getting cloudy very fast since adding them to the tank.
I’ve done a fishless cycle for a 20H that is almost complete. I plan to follow your quarantine trio in a separate bare bottom tank. My question is this quarantine tank will not be cycled and it’s not something I can leave set up all the time. is using a sponge filter from another tank enough to provide beneficial bacteria in this one week short term without losing fish? I’m needing toga every my Q tank set up only for the quarantine period. Is this feasible?
So bought a 10 gallon quarantine tank and added two bristlenose plecos I added the medicine so don’t feed til day 3 ? And then on 7 change the water and add them to the display tank ?
I'd buy it too having the video is awesome and in some cases the video is better but finding the specific video or where in that video is hard a book where you can just turn to page 394 and get the info quickly would be amazing id love it
Hey Cory I’m from the future. 2 years in the future to tell you, yes people do watch old videos about treatment lol thanks for providing a wealth of knowledge to keep my fish happy and healthy 👍🏼
I'm the future and watching now lol..... Needed clarification on the instructions of the package vs Aquarium Coop's instructions. Thankfully I watched since I was only about to do 1 dose of Maracyn on an active infection when the since dose is meant for quarantine.
@ Kyle Vick. You always leave the filter running, but you ALWAYS take out carbon or chemipure or similar product from filter because it will REMOVE the medication from the water. After treatment do water change like Cory said & replace new carbon to pull rest of med out of water. 🙂
Thanks Cory. Btw, any chance you could do a video on the electronics behind multiple tank set ups. I.e. How do I set up sockets and plugs for 4 tanks all next to each other? Is it best to do it with surge extension leads? Are there any other alternatives to avoid surges, etc?
Sucks. I know. It is a very demanding hobby, so if you're not someone who can basically be endlessly entertained by just sitting and watching a healthy tank, then it may not be for you. I would argue that understanding all the moving parts, the complicated variables, and things that need to be balanced is part of the fun. The responsibility that is required for someone to keep what is basically a water box of nature in their home can be really rewarding in and of itself. Still, there's no getting around the cost aspect. Fish keeping can get expensive really easily, and start up costs alone are high. But the more you invest early on, the less you may have to later. I'm relatively new to the hobby too. I can totally relate to your sentiment. Good luck!
Canada has outlawed a lot of fish meds. Now I'm afraid to try and get new fish as a new hobbyist. Barring making a trip to the US, can you comment on how to quarantine fish (and inverts) when one can't buy The Trio?
This is a slick marketing campaign. If you browse the comments, you’ll see that most come from self-proclaimed newcomers and amateur hobbyists. Cory repetitiously suggests this particular trio of meds to inexperienced aquarists. Unfortunately, this kind of industry advice conveniently ignores virulent strains of mycobacteria and the harsh reality of fish breeding. A majority of farm raised fish are bred for quick turnaround, and the scheme is two-fold when you couple sick fish with meds. Logically, if you buy fish from a reputable source, there’s no need for further use of meds right after quarantine. I appreciate how these meds are safe for invertebrates. Nevertheless, Cory is advising newbies to over medicate fish, so the industry can make more money. This kind of advice doesn’t give fish keepers an adequate understanding of life cycles and preventive maintenance. Shame on you!
Can you do one like this on how to treat bacterial & fungal infections without antibiotics? I live in Canada, as do many other viewers and we can't get two of the three trio meds.
Pamela Pilling I wish there was a LOVE button for your comment; I was lucky enough to pick up some meds before they left the shelves forever here in Canada. But I don’t know that Cory has much-if any-experience on treating _without_ these meds or other ones like them. Rachel O’Leary is the only FishTuber I’m aware of that does their best to quarantine & treat fish without resorting to antibiotics or other string meds right off the bat...
@@bettatimestories807 I grabbed meds as well. However they will soon run out. I do have planted tanks, snails and fish without scales so there may be other considerations. Cory has discussed using salt in passing as another option for fish keepers who can't use meds. I need to search his back videos first to see if he has already discussed using salt alone, what it treats and what dosages need to be used.
Thanks so much! Just getting back into fishkeeping and by far things have changed so much from 30 years ago. I have found you very informative; and can tell you love this hobby. You have the rare talent to teach and to put things in layman’s terms. I appreciate all the hard work you do to keep this hobby moving forward. I hope to show how rewarding this is to my grandson. I’ve just ordered the “trio”.
@ E H. If you have a tank smaller than 10 gallons, u can get a pill splitter at pharmacy or break open a capsule & split med. When your tank is great & lots of beautiful fish & u buy a new fish & put it in the tank & about 4-5 days later your fish get ich & half the tank dies, u will realize the trio of drugs & treating a small tank is DIRT CHEAP compared to replacing fish & then they dont DIE on you. Happy Fish!!!
Andrew Lipic some local pet stores and most online pet supply stores sell products with the same ingredients as general cure. I use a bird dewormer that contains levamisole and praziquantel. For metronidazole + praziquantel have a look at the dog dewormer tablets it’s pretty easy to find what you need
Great video *but*, in Australia erythromycin, Flagyl (metronidazole ) and Biltricide (praziquantel) are Schedule 4: Prescription Only Medicines. Formaldehyde is included in Schedule 6 of the Australian Poisons Standard. In a nutshell, neither of those products are legally available here.
We need to adjust this some because in the last few years Ive seen the majority of people find their fish have camallanus red worms. We need an off the shelf med for that in your trio because the meds that kill those also kill other parasites making the general cure ineffective against what most people are actually dealing with.
I have a pregnant guppy and platy in quarantine... Is this safe for them? I'm assuming it says to do a water change after treatment to remove dead worms? So, if I put one packet in my 10 gallon aquarium, do I do a water change after one week? Also, how much of a water change should I do? There will still be medicine in the aquarium so if I retreat in two weeks wouldn't that make there be too much in the water?
“The customers fish keep dying, which is beneficial to the store, but not to the hobby” Ummm, no, my fish keep dying, I’m not buying from your store anymore, and I’m not recommending the store to anyone either. Lol
I have a broad range medicine with methaline blue and a gew other components , i like to put a few drops in the bag while acclimating the fish , is that ok ? Does it work ? I've never had any problems but i might just be lucky
The only issue is with the food. My fish are such gluttons!!! They’re looking like they’re starving! They’re getting stressed from not eating and also eating and uprooting all the plants! Hahaha 🤣my fatso monsters!!! Any ideas?
Yeahhhhhh, I just use salt and heaters..............I never quarantine either.....I only use antibiotics for blue green algae(if it's out of control) or planaria zero if there is hydra or planaria. Generally I use salt and heat for fish illness though. If you can kill the problem with salt, then the meds wont help either. most of the time, if you see the illness you need to cull because the fish will die anyways but more brutally.
I need clarification regarding feedings while using ParaCleanse. Cory says to wait until day 3 or 4 to feed (lightly). When can I resume normal feedings?
So, I know I'm late to the party, but, see if I have this correct. Day1- Treat all fish with this trio for 7 days . After these 7 days, if no signs of illness, to the display tank? If signs of illness, continue to Treat for at least another week redosing all over again? Thank you!!
I have an active infection on my fish's eye. It is a white bump. On the maracyn medicine, it says not to do any water changes until day 6. Ich-X says to do a water change before each addition of ich x. Which should I follow if I'm dosing both?? Or do one at a time.
If not following instructions for antibiotics, could it lead to antibiotic resistance? I think we may need to be careful with using antibiotics when not required.
Thanks for this, learning so much from your videos. I am setting up a new 20 gallon freshwater tank. I will add fish a few at a time over the next 6 -8 weeks. After watching this I wonder if I should just plan to do preventative treatment on the new fish once they are all in there? Also tips on how to add water to a tank that is far from water source would be helpful. Love your videos!
Just so that Im clear. Are we looking at a 2 week quarantine or a 3 week? 7 days of meds and then a 30% water change and add more worm meds by itself for another 7 days or do we wait a week before adding it? Lastly, if we use high dosage salt, can that do the same thing? Thank you in advance.
Sorry if this is really specific, but if I do not have any other fish in an aquarium and I don't have another aquarium, should I A; quarantine them in the one I have or B; get another tank and quarantine them in that tank. (the tank is cycled and planted and is a 10 gallon tank)
I know this is not new, i bought the trio from you and did this then i saw I had put in carbon that I forgot about I put it in about 3 days ago. What should i do? Start all over again? Please help someone. The meds won't work with the carbon being in the filter. I am a member. If anyone can help me please.
I have two neons quarantine one has bump on the lip and one has fin rot . I am treating with pimafix and not seeing any results. There is salt in the tank. What should I do. Not even sure what bump is.
I add a new fish in my tank, and I add today two envelopes the para cleanse for my 20 gallon tank. What instructions do, the first or the second. Is to late to do the other medicines, the meracin and the inc-x. Can I feed the fish?
I know this is kind of a long post but I would really appreciate anybody's experienced opinion thanks in advance. 🤞🤞 Okay I got the quarantine Trio from the aquarium Co-op. Has anybody else used these cems? I've got a few questions. I'm treating my whole 20 gallon tank because I see to fish with fungus spots and a third that seems to be having the same kind of fin deterioration. #1 Im pretty sure I've got a fungal situation and after watching the aquarium Co-op video about treating an active infection I think I understand he said the Maracyn and the Ich-x work well together and to follow their instructions as guided to the T but the Matacyn says no water change out till day6 while adding the treatment amount every day. the Ich-x says do 1/3 water change out before adding new dose daily just wondering if anybody had experience because it seems like if I use the Ich-x and the Maracyn together I could just do the daily 1/3 water change and add the new dose of each med am I correct? #2 they both say remove activated charcoal filters for the duration of treatment, I have a hang on the back filter with a basic slide in filter that has some loose carbon between the layers of medium so should I take the whole thing out or cut into the filter shake out the carbon and leave the medium with the beneficial bacteria so that it can be treated as well or just take it all the way out and add a new one after treatment is over? #3 the ich-x says it may stain plastic and plaster and rocks so should I take out my decor other than my life plans or should I leave them into so they get treated as well. #4 should I use my slime coat plus to treat the water that I'm adding after each water Exchange or just utilize my tap water conditioner or not use any of them as I do not have chlorine in my filtered well water but may have heavy metals? All right I think that's it thanks again
Y’all’s videos have been so helpful! Hobby aquarium keeper (freshwater 29 gallon) here with a thriving tank of mollies, shrimp, tetras, plecos, and even a frog that lasted 2+ years and a move. Over the last couple months I’ve lost everything but my 2 plecos and some live plants, so I decided to get serious. These videos have helped so much, set up two 10 gallon quarantine tanks (1 for fish, 1 for plants) today and I’m on my way to rebuilding my main tank to what it once was! Thank you for all your insight, you have an awesome team 🎉
Your channel and products are both a godsend and a guiding light for new aquarists. I’ve been freaking out over the well-being of me new (and first) tank but since watching your videos I’ve been able to sleep! Lmao for weeks I wasn’t able to let my fish out of my sight 😅
I have watched this now multiple times....just to make sure I don't forget something. I was worried about the meds harming the plants.....so I watched this today and it reminded me it was snail safe, plant safe and fish safe....to do all three at same time. I bought 8 panda corys last Saturday......they look and act totally fine, so I treated today. Hard part is not feeding them for 4 days, but I have had too many other fish get sick and die after 7-10 months....so it is probably parasites. Lesson learned, I am treating as preventative.
I have used this method with all of my new fish coming in and it works great but I am wondering if this would still be ok for my new arriving discus as they are a little more sensitive without water changes etc?
If the new fish were already introduced into the main tank that didn't have any fish, would it be alright to dose them in that main tank? Would that change the care after the week was over?
Lost a bunch of my fish including a 12" L14 pleco. All due to ich which I realized late. All you need is once to suffer and realize how important quarantining it is.
Just started the 7 day quarantine med trio. 20g long, 2 packs of Fritz ParaCleanse, 2 packs of Fritz Maracyn and 10ml of Ich-X. Thank you for the great info!
@@KeepingItFishy it worked fine, no problems. But with tanks I’ve set up after I didn’t do anything other than quarantine and that has worked fine too. I still keep fresh meds on hand in the event of illness.
YESSS I NEEDED THIS i didnt get your last video on this but im glad you revisit because i got it on the first watch unlike the other one which i still havent got 😂😂
Thank you so much for making this video! I bought your med trio a month ago and I kept on watching your original video because I dosed my fish as a “preventative” measure even though they had “active” diseases. The disease (body fungus) didn’t go away after two days and I was so confused on what to do, since I thought everything would be better after dosing all three at once! But thankfully I re-dosed again and they did get better after that 😅 Anyway great product and would 10/10 buy again!
The Ich-X specifically says: "Do not use with other medications". So why are you doing it? Does what they're saying mean that one of the meds would be cancelled out?
Generally it means that you may unknowingly overdose an active ingredient that's present in both medications. I assume Cory has done the due diligence to avoid that with those three.
Building my first tank currently. Just ordered this trio of meds from you and waiting for them to deliver. I want to add cherry shrimp also. Is this safe for cherry shrimp? Do cherry shrimp need different meds than fish?
Your videos are so helpful! I will be getting my first tank in a few months (doing a lot of research first). Since I am only doing a 20 gallon tank and that’s the max I can have in a dorm, can I medicate the whole tank each time instead of quarantining?
Thanks for the clarification. One thing I never hear you speak on specifically, is can you run salt (1TBS/2 gal) at the same time as the trio? For my QT tank with 2 African Cichlids. I know you speak highly of salt for external parasites and fungus on its own, but what about with the trio?
So, my tanks are always full of cories or tetras and I would be careful because salt will harm some fish. Especially black skirt tetras from my research.
I just received my trio from you guys over the weekend! Very excited as my Neolamprologus Caudopunctatus arrive on Thursday and they will start off on the right foot. Thanks!
Great stuff, I have all of these on hand due to watching your videos. My tanks all seem healthy but I intend to deworm them all coming up soon, and get a new quarantine tank. Do you know if all these meds are also safe for African dwarf frogs?
I haven’t had problems with the frogs, but also don’t intentionally treat them so my experience is probably limited to 10 times or less treating them with the trio.
Thank you! I'm starting another planted aquarium and after it cycles, i was going to get a couple fish for it. I forgot how you do the meds, and this was so helpful! Best regards.
