I hope this isn't a dumb question - but the bulb won't be hot enough to melt the PVC? I am thinking about a PVC cage setup with a halogen bulb on the inside.
Not dumb. It's wise to think about those safety things. You need to make sure you use a porcelain socket and control your bulb on a thermostat. I've used up to 100 watt bulbs like this no problems. When you use a bulb inside a cage, you can use about half the wattage as a bulb on top of the cage because the heat is all inside the cage. I suppose an extremely high wattage bulb might get too hot. I've never noticed it on pvc, but over time, heat can make acrylic brittle/yellow. You can use strips of aluminium foil tape as a heat reflector/shield if you are worried about that. Thanks for watching, Theo.

I can't remember exactly. They're small...Maybe 1/8 or 3/16. It depends on the exact sized holes in your porcelain fixtures. Bring your fixture to the hardware store. Any well stocked Ace, etc will have what you need.
