The ice is forr aesthetic purposes tom make it fill the glass, and look nice. The amount of vanilla extraxt tho is insane.. Also, when did we start calling and acting like iced coffee, is just like regular instant coffee???
It's instant coffee so it's concentrated. You're making a coffee concentrate by using equal parts water and grounds. It's not like a splash of coffee, it's more like an intense syrup
I think it was meant to just be a different way to make a recipe video. It probably helps with viewer retention without an intro that people will scroll past.
Dude missed 2020 dalgona coffee trend Edit: omg my first top comment, this coffee definitely has existed in many different cultures n timelines, but don’t you HATE when creators try to pretend no one’s ever made a viral recipe before to claim credit???
Proud of having never made dalgona. The fun pandemic stuff I did was just booby trapping the house, cutting my own hair, making a slingshot gun, counting nutrient of the food Im eating and tallying up stocks, etc. I truly enjoyed the pandemic
I miss the pandemic era. I learned a lot of things, found great ideas to kill the boredom, dalgona coffee, and even tested positive for COVID-19 (thankfully not too dreadful and deadly because of prior doses of vaccine), but never got hooked on TikTok.
If I am not mistaken, this is the Greek coffee "frape", invented in the city of Thessaloniki in 1970's and served everywhere in Greece today. I like the vanilla addition. 😊❤
As a greek person I have to tell you that you are in the right trajectory. You probably need a couple of dozen iterations and you might eventually discover how make decent cold instant coffee.
How do you, as a greek person, make your coffee at home? The recipe he did is basically exactly what I leaned of as a "greek frappe". Aside from the more traditional 2:1 ratio of coffee to sugar.
@@Apollo_despairvanilla extract, salt etc are huge extras. We just use coffee, sugar to taste and fill with water, topping off milk if needed to taste. That seemed way too sweet in my eyes, but I also drink frappe without sugar or milk.
@@IliasMWr I see, I also never use salt and vanilla. Though I fill my cup with milk rather than water since I find milk to be a better base than water.
@@GiovanniAuditore Coffee with rum was so popular in the Austrian Imperial army during WWI what it remained a go-to drink in the post-war countries for decades. I read a Czechoslovak driver's handbook from the 1950s (35 years after the war) and it warned against the "popular drink to keep drivers awake, coffee with rum".
I've been doing this for a bit while learning my own way around coffee without having expensive stuff, good drink! great substitute to ordering coffee from outside
I’m fully convinced that if you gather the necessary materials and tools, such as high-grade aluminum for the rocket body, composite materials for the nose cone, titanium or carbon fiber for the fins, and specialized high-thrust rocket engines, then prepare the body by cutting and welding the aluminum to form a cylindrical structure, then assemble the engine mount by designing a secure housing for the engine with appropriate insulation and mounting brackets, then allow all welds and epoxy joints to cure completely, then attach the shock cord system by installing a high-tensile strength cord inside the body tube, securing it to a reinforced section of the frame, then install the launch lug or guide rails by attaching them along the length of the rocket for stable ascent, then prepare the fins by cutting them from titanium or carbon fiber sheets, sanding and shaping them for aerodynamic efficiency, then attach the fins by welding or bolting them to the body tube, ensuring they are perfectly aligned for stability, then allow all joints to settle and cure completely, then prepare the recovery system by designing and folding a large parachute, attaching it to the shock cord and ensuring it is properly packed and deployed, then attach the nose cone by securing it to the top end of the body tube with bolts and ensuring it fits snugly but can be released for recovery, then paint and finish the rocket by applying a heat-resistant primer, sanding lightly, applying aerospace-grade paint in desired colors, and finishing with a protective clear coat, then prepare for launch by inserting the rocket engine, securing the ignition system, placing the rocket on a custom-built launch pad with proper stabilization and guidance systems, and conducting a detailed pre-launch checklist and safe countdown and launch procedure, you can create your own functional rocket ship.
@@Codgerism yeah. It's supposed to be a caffeine free substitute for coffee I think. If you want it's unique taste with caffeine I hear that they sell buckets of the stuff on Amazon
You dont have to add so much sugar if you don't want to 😊 people don't like sweet stuff, and some people do. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences! I hope you can find a suitable measurement of sugar for your tastes!
This is what we call “frappe” in Greece! It’s a staple for the summer. We just add coffee milk and sugar , but some times I drink without anything else but coffee. It is great refreshing and very cheap coffee.
I was looking for this comment. Frappes are great! I did enjoy having them with everyone at night. Haha... Before dinner... Which was really late at night.
As a Greek I was about to get into the comment section to add my insight about this drink. Surprised to find out people already know about Greek frappe.
Yeah, I don't go over a Tablespoon for a bigger cup, even when going over 30 oz, it's a good amount for about 24 oz tho and I drink at most one in a day over a long period of time because I drink slow or I share with my hubby. 2 Tbsp is nuts. We don't use regular sugar tho.
if you don’t have a frother just assemble it all in a water bottle and shake then when ready for ice, pour bottle content into glass and add ice + milk. i saw a russian girl do this exact routine like 40 shorts ago
Frappe was discovered in Thessaloniki Greece in the 1950s and even won an award for ingenuity in some italian food convention. Fredo espresso was also a greek invention. Greeks just love swirling their coffees and adding ice lol
Love how dalgona comes and goes from the interwebs. The rest of us were making this back in 2020, except for a lot of Hispanics whose grandmothers made the stuff long long before that.
@@LibertarianVisionRussia Yeah, I make iced coffee regularly with instant coffee and don't go over a Tablespoon for a bigger cup. I also add a decent amount of heavy cream and a lot of almond milk. That's generally all the caffeine I drink in a day.
@@benjaminsteele13 Even when drinking coffee regularly I don't go over a Tablespoon of instant coffee for an even bigger cup. Two Tablespoons is way too much... not the minimum. Especially true because instant coffee can have a stronger flavor depending which kind we get. I could maybe go over a Tablespoon with Butternut, Nescafe Gold, or various Japanese brands without it tasting too strong or burnt.
As a South African, when you say "instant coffee" I think: 1. Boil water in the kettle 2. Put 1 or 2 teaspoons of coffee in a cup (depending on how strong it is) 3. Put however many teaspoons of sugar you'd like (optional) 4. Add coffee creamer or fresh milk (optional) 5. Pour the boiled water into the cup and stir
@chihiro_0911 yea now instead you have water flavored coffee unless you chug the entire thing before the ice melts but there's only like 5oz of liquid so it shouldn't be to hard to finish
@@Deivesonfiggyssonsome of the ice will melt instantly, and a lot will melt when mixing.. the coffee is very strong (and hot) and is meant to be diluted.
I had no idea about any covid coffee or greek frappé. This short is the first i've ever heard of it. So thanks for posting this man, and reaching people like me who live comfortably under a rock. This totally changed my life for the better lol.
How, May I ask , has a coffee changed your life. I been drinking coffee for 50+yrs, I’m sure I qualify. ROFL looks good! And I never heard of this either. 😊
I don't care if anyone's going to look down on me for this, but this kind of makes me miss general foods international coffees! I think that was the brand. The Swiss coffee was my favorite! And I think the French vanilla too. Those got me through some long nights in college staying up for art projects and typing papers! For this here, part of me would want to add in a couple of spoonfuls of hot cocoa powder mix and maybe even some cinnamon! 😋😋😋
@@starry_impression - In every coffeeshop I have ever been to they don't even add sugar (other than sugar syrups) to your drink. Two tablespoons of both coffee and sugar is utter madness.
@@rachellestringerYeah I think one teaspoon would have been more than enough, this guy is going to get diabetes for sure. Two tablespoons is a lot, overly sweet coffee doesn’t taste good. I prefer a darker taste myself. He also killed the whole drink with adding so much vanilla. One or two drops is enough too. Vanilla is very potent
This is similar to how i make my coffee ✊🏻 it's the best! Been doing it for yrs and it became my go to when i just want to relax at home or im just craving for it. 10000/10!
Add the sugar before adding the hot water. It will prevent the hot water from burning the instant coffee. If you can add another teaspoon of room temperature water with the sugar it would be even better!
@@petervos111ifyInstant coffee is instant coffee. It is what it is. However, ideally boiling water shouldn't be used for instant coffee. The intense temperature supposedly could ruined the flavour and aroma. Not that I can tell the difference. I've seen the instruction on some of the instant coffee brands. Though, I'm not sure about adding the sugar part.
Tbh I think he adds too much sugar for my taste too, one tbsp is enough, that said instant coffee being notoriously bitter being balanced with salt is helpful. That’s why regular coffee - single origin, single bean type, uniform grind setting - tastes less bitter as you have more control over it. Re: heat - isn’t warm water not too hot to drastically affect the taste of the coffee
I tried this, it tastes amazing! Ended up a little too strong the first time because I frothed the coffee too much and didnt have as much room for milk, but it was still some of the best coffee I've had in a while!
I done been doing this minus the sugar and salt cuz I’m not into sugar that much and I really don’t make that many other coffee bevs unless I’m experimenting. It’s so good
@@clothar23 of course they use, you just ask for it. In Greece you metnion how you want your coffee, frappe, fredo espresso, etc. So, when you order, you say with milk, or else it's without. Fan fact, in frappe they put concentrated milk only!
@@just_another_bot0110not for every coffee, but because frappe is so popular , a bunch of people want it when going out. It is usually a lot cheaper than other coffees but it is true that a lot of coffee shops abuse it and charge it like other coffees and that’s sad.
i first made this as a child back in the summer of 2001. i didn't know about vanilla extract yet back then instead i added a very bit of hershey's choco syrup into the mix to make it appeal to my younger siblings. i loved it so much that i had too much. my head ached badly and i can feel my heart pounding real hard. i couldn't breathe well for like an hour. learned about caffiene the hard way.
@@bywonline 2 tablespoons of instant coffee at a time in a cold drink that u would probably guzzle in 5 minutes? I get jittery and irritable with just 1 teaspoon.
Wow, i am now also fully convinced that if you take 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, combine that with 2 more tablespoons of hot water and 2 tablespoons of sugar, a splash of vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and then froth it together till it becomes one fluffy coffee concotion, add a little bit of ice, some of your favorite milk, before mixing it all together, that i will have learned the best way to make instant coffee. (I had to watch the short 20 times for this lol)
Save your water bottle fill halfway with water freeze it. Add in an instant coffee stick or two, sweetener of choice & and water shake for one minute, then fill with creamer. Not fancy, but same as result.
Hmm, a protein shaker-type bottle or regular tumbler that you can reuse for this purpose is fine too - I understand that you want to make the washing up and process less of a hassle and simple, but if you want to do this frequently, you can still avoid unnecessary exposure to microplastics while reducing the number of unnecessary cleaning required from the video. But I like your way of thinking.
My standard morning coffee is instant coffee dissolved in cold milk. Leave for a few minutes and stir occasionally. Add a splash of cream. I usually make it the evening before and store it in the fridge overnight. The instant coffee does dissolve in cold milk, it just takes a little bit longer.
This is what im drinking now, i use half water since i drink soo much! Plus some chocolate syrup i can drink this all day i try to only have one or two 😂 solid food? 😮 whats that 😅
But why not just pour the slightest bit of boiling water to melt it? Your method sounds like it would waste time. 20ml of water won't even be noticeable to matter.
@@ElusiveTy I usually make it the day before, wasting no time. I don’t think it would be faster to boil the water, dissolve the coffee then add the milk in time I’m actually spending making the coffee.
@ElusiveTy add milk first and dissolve the coffee then add hot water, takes like 2 minutes of stirring to dissolve the coffee in cold milk but I make instant coffees every day and putting boiling water in first gives it more of a burnt taste, milk first is the way to go if you want an instant coffee to taste as good as it can.
Been drinking coffee without sugar for a while now and am so grateful, there is no need for it, working on using no milk or cream to really set myself up for better success.
I was at a summer camp and these kids have so much energy that I was always keeping an eye on them, I never had time to make a good cup of coffee. It was black or no coffee. I now drink black coffee. Some coffee tastes better with sugar but I like some coffee better black.
@@emrald9963 black coffee for the win!! I'd always crash out from the sugar after it wore off, can't do it anymore due to working night shift now, not trying to get fired for burning out and smacking the floor on the job 😆😆 Kids at camp nowadays certainly seem like they're dosed up on at least a pot of coffee a day I swear 😆 I can only imagine what it's like to work around them with all of that energy 😰
Oh my goodness I was bored and super tired so I was like "why not" I even used instant espresso because I didn't have instant coffee but let me tell you 😮 I know what I'm making everyday before school Holy crap it was so freaking good. Thankyou ❤ this definitely earns a follow and like 🎉❤❤❤
I think someone once told me cold water or room temp is better for at least a splash. Stir hard to start the instant coffee dissolving, then add the hot water. The cold water offsets the heat so you dont burn the granules, which is often what makes instant coffee taste awful
What I usually do is put the coffee in, put desired amount of sugar, cold milk, mix it very very thoroughly, then put a small amount of hot water, mix again thoroughly then add rest of hot water
I’m pretty convinced this is all placebo. My ex was convinced of this, I would make the coffee both ways and ask her whether I put cold milk in first or hot water. She never consistently got it right
Instant coffee is definitely under rated. I put two scoops with a cup made by my crap K cup machine. Then a spoon full of instant espresso. Fill the rest with heated milk. Good enough for me.
I make something very similar but I make it stronger and than put like 2 tablespoons spoons in and shake it up with a full glass of milk and some ice in a jar with a lid and it foams it up really nicely
every once in a while this is alright. would add calories for a daily drink so maybe keep it to the weekends. it’s okay to eat sugar in moderation. also saying that 10g of sugar would even remotely increase your chances of diabetes is just wrong. especially if you’re generally a healthy person
Sugar doesn't cause diabetes, saturated fat from animal products does. Our bodies and cells run on glucose, not fat or protein, but glucose. Sat fat blocks the cells ability to draw in glucose.
