Hi there! This is a big topic, and it depends. I did a video on improving timing when playing solos and improvising, I'll post the link below. But for general timing, playing along with others is a good place to start. Try putting on a recording of a song you know and can play with the recording. Then play along- paying attention to your timing. Are you speeding up? Slowing down? These kind of things. Timing improves gradually over time, but like anything it can be improved with practice. When I’m working on a new lick for a lesson or learning a new song using tabs, I break it down into small sections like this until I have them learned and can play them smoothly and without mistakes.
