In this video I show you my tricks to speed painting an army to get it ready for the table FAST! I'm showing it on my Craftworld Aeldari (will always be Eldar to me lol) army but the principles apply to any army.

The idea of just painting the main 3 colors and then going back later to work on details really makes painting that army I've been putting off for months more palatable.

5:33 I'm very much in agreement here. I will nearly always lay down all my (boring) base colours first just because the results following the washes and highlights are far more rewarding. Great job on getting these guys painted up, I really need more motivation to build and paint up some armies.

Thanks Pete! Some evenings i like to take a previously basecoated mini and start highlighting it up to a high level, its much easier to get into than starting from scratch

I love building, buying and playing with a painted force, but i hate painting. This video is EXACTLY what i needed! Most of what you did is what i do, but i never thought to try that NNM blade technique before, thanks for the great vid man!

Glad you liked it Phil! I never even considered my power sword technique to be NMM but i suppose it is…great way to tackle intimidating techniques - do them by accident lol

Man, not sure how long you've been in the hobby, but I was just like you: I just wanted to get my units painted as fast as possible, as time went on I realized that painting is a hobby in itself, and started enjoying it A LOT, it is sooo relaxing. Tip: if you like painting them assembly line, stop and try to paint them one by one, completely, I find assembly line painting veeeeery frustrating because you spend a ton of time without proper gratification because you aren't finishing anything, just parts of things, and it will soon feel like an endless chore. Painting 1 by 1 you will feel great "yeaaaah look at this guy, I will paint another one right away"
@dewseff8492

@@pedrobastos8132 i never liked painting my orks but i got custodes a few months back and after painting my first guard, ive fallen in love with painting them, i still dont like painting orks or space marines so my friends are painting them for me lol, but it could also be just what army he is painting too yknow
@pedrobastos8132
@pedrobastos8132 2 года назад
@@dewseff8492 yeah, that's also a thing, if you really like the models you end up enjoying the painting a lot more. I have two Grimdark Future armies: Orks and Dwarves/Squats/whatever, and while I did enjoy painting my squats I do have to say that I liked painting my Orks way more, I guess I just like them a bit more.
@dewseff8492
@dewseff8492 2 года назад
@@pedrobastos8132 i woulda liked painting my orks more if it didnt feel so overwhelming, like i have so much ork stuff to paint its hard to care about each model, but with custodes i feel like each one since its such an elite army is worth the time and effort

Another tip for those afraid to use the sharp edge of their xacto knife to trim the mold lines (or have accidentally chunked it for lack of delicate hands): flip it around and use the back edge. Works great as a mold line remover.

I hate you a little bit because this is exactly the video I have wanted to make because I think it's super important to just have those practical tips around big colours, simply drybrushing and yeah, the distraction element to just get something on the table in a few hours per unit, rather than the focus on how do I do all these massive techniques that are easy to get sucked into on youtube. Having just done this this weekend painting some second hand models to build a new craftworld contingent, it's super timely someone is documenting this. Thank you sir, and loved the earlier video on making Eldar terrain too. We need more of these on doing standard army sets for everyone with a big pile of shame (need to work on drukhari and some new harlequins myself).
@euansmith3699
@euansmith3699 2 года назад
That was interesting, and the minis look very cool. The point about "Table Top Quality" is well made. I feel that things like Instagram, with virtuoso paint jobs shot in extreme close up, give a skewed impression of what a decently painted mini needs to look like. And never go full Reverse Cow; no one goes full Reverse Cow.

Thank you so much for that tutorial on the wraithlord sword! Painted up my first ever power sword that wasn't just flat silver and it turned out so much better! Never thought I'd be able to do that at my level of painting. THANK YOU!

This is wonderful! There are so many great resources on RU-vid for taking your painting to the next level, but it's rare to find a video that says it's perfectly ok to just get a few colors on there decently cleanly and go from there. Also airbrushes are your friend. Yes they're ~250-300 for everything (compressor, airbrush, ventilator, thinner, etc.) But that's less than most armies and will serve you well for many many years. I waited four years to get one and really should have saved up a bit and done it after the first year.
