Old hammers just have better steel. The Maydole Hammer Factory opened in 1845 and remained in the Maydole family until 1939 when Mayhew Tools purchased the company. I have had this broken 100 year old Maydole ball peen hammer around the shop for a while. Finally got around to removing the broken handle and fitting a new handle to the old hammer head. Follow a few simple steps and you can bring an old broken hammer back to 'like new' condition and ready to serve for another 100 years.

You’re standing next to a machinist tool box no? May I ask what brand that is. Also where do you buy your machinist tools? And lastly where did you get the chunk of rail road? I worked for a little bit when I was younger at a machine shop in central California and always wanted to find a spot in my garage for finer more precise machinist tools. Thanks for the video. I split the handle on my snap-on (blue point) ball peen I had for over 30 years and no way I’m throwing it out. Need to fix it. Thank you for this. The only good thing that comes from the interweb. Nice that people share and help people. Appreciate you sir.

The tool box is a Kennedy. They make absolutely the nicest machinist boxes. They can be expensive, but you can find them used on Craigslist or even eBay. Almost all of my precision tools are Starrett. Calipers, micrometers, rules, depth gauge, all Starrett. 99% of my tools are USA made. The rail rod rail I picked up at a used tool store in Eugene Oregon. Cost me $20!

@@FlyingKSports the rail road tie is awesome. Always wanted one. Great information on box and tools. Thank you for the names. I’d like to start a set quality machinist tools and sadly when I worked at one, I was too young and stupid to pay close enough attention to know what tools and equipment I used. Regardless thanks for the videos

After some googling I could not find thoughts on which end of the head is which. I figured the wide end is at the top for handle expansion but wanted to make sure. Thank you.
