Good to hear that. I feel like I often do something that seems to make sense - like putting together an intro - and then afterwards I see that it doesn't work. But perhaps in this case, an intro is appropriate for the video. The time needed to make it was a bit excessive, I must admit. From that point of view, I'm not sure it was worth the effort. But since it was the first one, it took longer. If I did it again, I'm sure I could do it faster now that I figured out some of the editing techniques.
That whole time you were on the upper deck holding your insta360 precariously in heavy winds, I was pondering the consequence of a snap of the camera stick. Was worrying indeed. Personally, I am a clumsy clot. I wouldn't dare shoot. You must have strong hands and a firm grip. Well made video of the voyage.
The main problem was that I wasn't using the right selfie stick. Insta360 and other companies make super-long extended selfie sticks for these kinds of shots, and if I had had one of those, it would have been fine. I think it could handle the wind from this boat. But I was using two normal selfie sticks. And then I screwed them together to make it twice as long. And I was worried that the point where they were attached together was weak and would break. If that had happened, I would have lost the camera for sure. It would have sunk to the bottom of the Malacca Strait.
CC: when i am traveling by train in Germany i always take the first class. it is not that much higher than economy like on airplanes and it is worth the higher price. Great travel vlog, Doug!
Cc one of your better videos. Indonesia seems like a very friendly and law abiding country. I used to travel a lot for business and the first class upgrades on united airlines were nice on long trips. But they stranded me so often on connecting flights that I switched to southwest. No first class, but service was better and never got stranded.
Thank you. For this video, since I had some scenic video clips, I decided to take the time to make the video a bit more focused. So I tried to make it shorter and I added that intro. I still have the original long version. I will probably post it as well, just because I have it. Yes, I can see how giving up first class in exchange for not getting stranded with missed connections makes sense. 😁
Memories of ferry trip 20 years ago from Penang to Langkawi. Soon after departure a very jovial gentleman next to me suddenly became very quiet, grey and sullen and then swiftly grabbed one of the hanging plastic bags.🥴
It's interesting how fast it can hit. And sometimes it seems like very little causes it. If my memory serves, I've been seasick only once in my life, and that was on a giant vehicle ferry in Canada that was hardly moving at all. It made no sense that I would feel seasick, and yet, I did. And it's an awful feeling. Normally, I'm not affected, and I'm happy about that. I feel so sorry for people that get seasick easily and have to endure that feeling for hours.
Thank you so much. Hope you enjoy your time in Poland. 👍That looks like a great place to visit. It's got so much water nearby - rivers, lakes, and then the Baltic Sea right there. Tough name to spell, though. I struggled for what felt like 20 minutes to just type out the name. 😁 I kept getting it wrong. But I think I finally found the place you mentioned.
Yes that is correct . If you like beer and spare ribs this is the place to be . I've been to two pubs and they double up as a brewery .. beer never tasted so good
39:10 I feel the same every time I leave port or airport. Once I decided to give in and took at a taxi from Helsinki port because of bad weather. Driver tried to overcharge me twice, because the ride was too short.
I've had that experience a few times in life. I might decide that it is too much trouble to walk. And I decide to treat myself to a fancy and comfortable taxi ride or something. But by the time the dust settles on the experience, it ends up being so much trouble and so annoying that I wish I'd just walked anyway. At the very least, a good strategy is to leave the bus station, train station, dock, or airport and THEN look for a taxi outside. I can't handle the scene at bus stations when there are ten taxi drivers all competing for your attention. Even if I want to take a taxi, I'll walk past them, leave the bus station, and walk for two or three blacks. And THEN I'll look fora taxi. It's just a lot easier that way. 😀
Funny that you asked that question…. I m taking the ferry for the second time in first class from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel tomorrow morning… cost return trip is $41 US cc. Ultramar 😊
That sounds like a great deal. When I click on those places in Google Maps, I see a lot of photos of some very fancy boats and resorts and nice beaches. Hopefully first class is very classy. Flutes of champagne and caviar perhaps? 👍
Wow I had no idea you could travel via boat between the 2 countries. Yikes though, must be rocky if that guy was about to vomit! Anxiety set in when you were not collected and had to change plans then maybe the wrong way... ahhhh.
It's one of the rare international ferry lines that is still running in this part of the world. I think there used to be a lot of boats going back and forth between Malaysia and Sumatra. But most went out of business. When that man seemed to be throwing up, we hadn't even left the dock yet. I couldn't feel the boat moving at all. But I guess some people are very sensitive to the rocking motion of boats. 🙂 Luckily, I had taken a boat to Malaysia from this town before. I was familiar with the process and where the dock was located. So when the ferry company shuttle service forgot about me, I wasn't too stressed out. I actually waited a long time in the hotel lobby before I finally gave up on them. I felt that I still had enough time to get there on my own. I knew where to go and I had a good sense of how long it would take to get there. But if I had missed that boat, I would definitely have faced some problems. My visa expired the very next day, so I don't know what I would have done. I guess I would have tried to get to the airport and fly out. Not sure if I would have made it. 😁
I just saw your reply today. I didn't realize you had already landed in Jakarta. I'm happy to hear it. I hope your time there goes well. Did you have an issues with getting a visa or anything like that? Did you apply for the 30-day VOA online? How long do you think you will stay in Indonesia? I'm looking forward to your Indonesia vlogs. I can use the CC in English to understand a little bit of what you are saying in your videos.
@@PlanetDoug Thanks, now I'm in Palembang Sumatra and planing to go to Bukittingi, I saw you your old vlogs, seems like you started you RU-vid journey from Sumatra, keep posting your videos gives inspiration to me all the times
Between Port Dickson and Tanjung Balai Asahan, the trip is around 6 hours. Between Port Dickson and Dumai, it's much shorter at about 2.5 hours. Between Melaka and Dumai, it's also about 2.5 hours.
