I use to tear up largemouth around 10pm-12am on a whopper plopper before everyone started throwing them . Early fall around September and October. I’m talking every 10 casts in about 5 feet of water around the bank. It’s died off the past few years but still a solid bite.

I use to slow roll a big spinner bait on lake Lanier at night. Had a lot of success using it. I have had the blade ripped off from vicious strikes.

This reminds me of my wee lad days in the 80s eavesdropping on conversations between some of the local sticks in the tackle shop. Private club made up of a couple quarry lakes. Lots of sunken rock piles. One night I’m in the shop, a couple of the locals are in there and they’re huddled around the owners box looking at baits. They all had this wild eyed look about them. The box was full of spinnerbaits. Musky spinnerbaits! These things looked like clothes hangers with a hook and blade on them. Huge. But they were heavy and one of the extremely productive techniques was crawling those enormous baits across the bottom for big largemouth. At the time there were no options available for big spinnerbaits. Of course there were smart guys that eventually realized you could crimp weights onto bass sized spinnerbaits to fish more efficiently.

Great video! The two things I can add. 1. If you're going to fish for Smallmouth bass make sure you have a good split ring (not thin wire) on the spinnerbait blade. They will rip it right off. The other is to make sure you have a tight knot on the r-bend of the spinnerbait, otherwise the line will go to the blade end and you'll end up with a straight spinnerbait. Bill is right, the 35 gauge wire is the sweet spot for spinnerbait. Those two fish I'm holding up were on spinnerbaits at night. Thank you Bill. P.S. Turn off the depth finder once you start fishing.

1:07:15 Reminds me of the other day when I was trying to target fish on LS with a jig head minnow and my 8-year old is in the back of the boat fishing a 3/16 ounce jig head minnow like a spoon. I looked back there and laughed, but it wasn't funny after about 15 minutes when he had caught two to my zero. 🤣

I fish quite a bit at night when temp get over 100dg. Over the years I have had better success just sitting on one high percentage area. Weird part is it almost seems like different group of bass come in as the night goes on. Or that is my belief; it could be they are there the whole time. Maybe they just bite in thier own bite window. Hell I don't know

I fish a lake that has Blue back but there is no grass or trees. Just man made brush piles & silt. Years ago a spinner bait was juice but anymore the bait has to be dragged through a brush pile or rock pile to even get a bite after sunset. The herring were introduced along with spotted bass 12 to 15 years ago but it’s easily the hardest lake you will ever fish if you want to catch a bass over 3lbs. What’s funny is that there are 7+ pretty heavy. Just extremely shy about everything a fish can be.

Great guest and video ! Very good insights on safety at night . Years ago I had a near miss after midnight with a float tuber that was out in the middle of a small lake with no lights of any kind on . Luckily I was slowly crossing a lake arm to the opposite bank and not on pad maybe going 5-7 MPH . with my nav lights on when I was just about on him he turns a flash light on at the last second and starts yelling , I had to swerve hard to miss him . IDIOT ! I said to myself .

The most dangerous thing about night fishing is those black floating widow makers that are not on your lake maps!
@HawgWyldFishing
@HawgWyldFishing 3 месяца назад
Yep you have to spend some time on the water at night just chillin and cruising around slow just to really get familiar with being out there in it, and never be so eager to just try running wide open on unfamiliar waters first thing. And the biggest thing that would help guys is turn those damn screens off or as dim as they can go to while you’re driving from place to place, if they will go low enough that you aren’t having to try to see past them. One of the biggest impediments to seeing well on the water at night is the big bright ass screen that’s right in front of you. It’s much safer to run at night without your screens turned on, and just knowing the body of water. Then turn it back on once you get to the area you were going. If you don’t know the water well enough to know where you’re going without your mapping, you better be planning on driving slow enough that you can safely watch what is ahead of you and check your mapping every so often as you go. Plan to be happy slowing down when it comes to being on the water at night. Otherwise, you should probably plan to have a rough night because trying to run and gun at night is a very good way to make that happen very fast.
@BigCatOutdoors44
@BigCatOutdoors44 3 месяца назад
Agreed! Part of the reason I fish out of a mud boat on those night tournaments

I have a Sionyx Nightwave night vision camera connected to a Lowrance HDS-12 at the helm. Almost like driving in the daytime. Also have a Garmin Map unit to watch. A little spooky at first, driving the boat in virtual reality, (also use my eyes to look around) but much better than just relying on vision. You can see ripples on the water and anything floating. I don’t run too fast, but I’m on plane and cruising. Much safer!
@lamarcantrell9019
@lamarcantrell9019 14 дней назад
@@davidallen6999 I also have a pilots license and I can make the comparison to flying in the clouds. An IFR (Instrument Flight Rule) pilot relies on equipment, training and the air traffic controllers to direct him safely as he travels through poor visibility. It’s when a VFR (Visual Flight Rule) pilot ventures haphazardly into the soup that a midair collision can happen. Sounds like you have great equipment and are using it cautiously. Just watch out for those boneheads that run 70 mph in the dark because they think they know all the factors or ignore some of them. All it takes is one subsurface floating log or a swimming deer to change things forever. Be safe and catch a big one!
