There are some BIG mistakes that can be made when storing your soft plastic lures!
And if you store them the wrong way, you may be left with a huge mess and ruin all of your lures.
Soft plastic fishing lures melt when you store them incorrectly, but since there are several types of soft plastic lures, it can be confusing trying to remember all the rules.

Great advice and I agree that leaving them in the original package is the best option when possible. I've tried several methods, including binders, in past. There are times where the right size freezer bag is needed to transfer them to when the packaging is damaged.

I learned the hard way not once but on several occasions. Now, I do just that, I keep all soft plastics away from each other. I set up a peg board with those metal arms and hung them all in their own package. For starters it’s so much easier to find what I want and looks so much neater. Oh, and when I get back I take everything out of tackle bag and they go right back up on board.

Z-Man elaztech like the TRD's will warp the box and also colors will run and even fade if you leave them in there long enough. Best to leave them in their original packaging. The baits will stay more straight too. Another neat Elaztech tip is ...if you want to color them - like give slam shady and chartreuse tail using a spike-it marker. Just put them in the freezer first and the dye from the spike-it marker will take when it's frozen.

Thanks for turning me on to the zman diezl minnows. Those are my favorite plastic to throw, and all the inshore species crush them.

I have had some plastics welt the tray they were in. I don't remember what the brand was for the plastic or the tray. It was also a longtime ago.

Hi I use a tackle bag and trays I will use one brand of plastics in that one tray in the past I have had some very interesting looking plastics

Can't you use mineral oil or cod liver oil to preserve the baits and act as an attractant? That's what I do. I prefer that to gulp juice

I had this issue one time where I would keep at least one of each of my soft plastics in a tray for easy access. And my zman neds started melting with my other baits

Yes, the chemicals and plastics can break down when mixed with other plastics.

What is the best way to store used softbaits? Unhook the jigheads and put them in the original packaging? Or could I store them in the original packaging with the jighead still attached? Cheers

Original packaging is always the best. That will keep your baits fresh and it will avoid mixing plastics together that don't belong

Yes. If they are in their original packaging, the lures will not be able to react with one another.

can i mix different lures from the same brand(like gulp jerk shads and swimming mullets)?

I've not had a problem with that, personally. At least with lures bought around the same time. Obviously don't want to store ancient Gulp lures with new ones lol.

That most often is ok to do. But I still recommend keeping everything isolated to be totally safe from any melting or bleeding issues.

The z man slim shady lure will melt if you leave it in a hot place and eventually messed Up the rest of your lures because is like glue or gum.

Z man vs slam shady. What’s in your box boys.

Both. But the Slam Shady 2.0 gets used the most frequently since it's the most well rounded (works on any jig head/weight hook and can be great without the tail as a small jerk shad). This morning I came across some snook feeding on glass minnows, but they wouldn't hit any lures. So I tore the tail off of the Slam Shady 2.0 and rigged it on a weighted hook, and it worked extremely well with many snook as well as a surprise redfish.
