I bought my own Insta360 Link 4K as well, and I have to agree: this is a GREAT webcam. I have the Elgato Facecam, which I still like, but it didn't take long for me to realize the Insta360 is way better. The Insta360 software for the Mac is better. The presets are super helpful when I use the cam to stream a class for conference. The HDR helps a lot when a speaker is standing in front of a projector and screen. One problem I have VERY often though, is the camera keeps dropping down to 720p, even when I set it to 1080p. And I wish it had a 3.5 mm audio / mic in port. I don't care for an onboard mic, but would like to plug a lav in on the camera and not at the computer. I disable gestures as well. At any rate, good review. I love it too.
I have the same experience and I found many other people with the same thing happening when it comes to the camera dropping down to 720p. This makes this camera unusable. Every time you go into a Zoom meeting it reverts back to 720p. When you have 10 meetings a day this is insanely annoying. The second you turn off then turn on this camera in an app like Zoom it auto switches to 720p. Has anyone found a fix for this? I am returning this if it doesn't get fixed and this information needs to be disclosed.

The difference between this webcam & other webcams seems like the vast gulf between the original iPhone (2007) and the dumb phones of the time!!! It has every feature I've wanted in a webcam (including some that I didn't even imagine: top-down & desk modes)!! Could you do a comparison between this and the DJI Pocket 2 or 3? Especially interested in their respective autofocus & tracking capabilities.
Hey Justin, thanks SO MUCH for this camera recommendation. I was hankering after a Sony camera for RU-vid, but you've now saved me £££s. I'm hoping I might pick up one of these little Web cams in the Black Friday sales 🖤.
@Justin Brown, thank you very much for answering my question with Chantelle on niching down on the live podcast. I'm now changing to Simple Website Setup channel with videos about website making.
Oh I could use one of those! Seriously, Because I am in a Wheelchair It's hard to Juggle Purse's or carrying equipment Period, I can't afford one, perhaps one day..Ty for the info Justin
I use it with a green screen all the time, it does GREAT! Once a week I stream a conference. The speakers stand at a podium with a large green screen behind them. I use the Insta360 Link as the primary camera in front of the podium. In the live stream, it looks like the speaker is standing in a large library. To those attending in the room, I project the livestream to a large screen beside the speaker so that they can see him or her with the virtual background, and see their slides. I've never had fingers vanish, or hairlines be vague with the green screen and the Insta360 yet.
@@zurvey Thanks for the info. I use a Canon M50MKII for my videos and green screen work and it's spectacular. But I want multiple views for livestreaming and this is so tiny it would fit in a lot of places.
I just using a 6 year old Micro 4/3 4k Olympus DSLR, and knock off 4k-USB adapter. I do not get the tracking features, but the autofocus, image quality and color balance are great. And the lenses allow a much shallower depth of field with associated background blur.
Justin, great video! Thanks for turning me onto this cam. Can we hook up a USB interface such as PreSonus or other XLR to USB interface , into the web cam? If not, do you know what is the best compatible external mic for acoustic music? I've looked everywhere but can't find answers, including calling customer service who didn't know. Maybe it was just the rep I had.

Have you tested this Webcam on a M1 desktop computer? I have the MacMini M1 and have not found any decent webcam for simple Zoom or Skype meetings. I own Brio and 922 Pro. Neither work. Looks like I'm on a 720 or less webcam.
Thanks for the recommendation and the tutorial. I always learn so much from you and appreciate you testing equipment so we can buy the best option. I just got mine and I'm excited to see if it does well filming me drawing. Is it possible to have one webcam on my face and another on my drawing and switch between the two? Or is that asking too much? :) Thanks again. Huge fan of your videos.😊
I'm wondering if you would be willing to do an entire video on how to actually set up and use this webcam for filming video. Start to finish even so far as downloading the software, please? I am a serious newbie and need to have step by step instructions that one would give to a four year old, please. LOL Thanks.
Wow .. great review! And .. a few questions: * Can you "switch mic sources" during a Zoom? -- This would be ideal where there is both a teacher and students in the room. Sooo ... switch to "teacher" while she's talking, then to "audience" when one of them speaks. * Can you use this with a PHONE? -- Could you use this camera with a smartphone that has a USB-C input, or one that has a USB-C adapter? That would open a LOT of possibilities for doing videos "out in the field". * Can I use it with an older laptop that does NOT have USB-C? -- Could it be power by a USB-A to USB-C adapter? Anyway ... it's about time a better webcam came out! It's unbelievable how little advancement there has been with webcams in the past 5-7 years. Thanks for putting this camera on my radar!
I don't know of a way to switch audio with different camera preset positions unfortunately.. wireless mics could get you around that though. As far as I know, most webcams won't work with a phone and I doubt this would be any different. It's just detected as a regular webcam. It will work with USB-A if it's a fast enough port (usb 3.0 i'm assuming) and it comes with a USBc-USBa adaptor in the box
Hi would this work for a desktop shot if you had a laptop not a desktop (meaning I can't remove the keyboard!) I realise it has to be connected to the computer but does it need to be situated on top? The type of videos I'm trying to record are on my channel (basically top down tarot videos). Thanks!
Do you think this could be used as a camera for insta/youtube content? I'm a guitarist and tossing up between a Sony zv1f or possibly this. I just need it basically stationary, video only with audio, sould use an external mic and figured I could put the insta on a tripod. What do you think?
Hi Justin, thank you for the information review. I have one query, Will the adjustments be available even when the camera is linked to evmux or any other streaming platform. Currently I use a Logitech and have never been able to use any of the abilities of their application. Thanks
Hi! Thanks for your video. Do you know if I have multiple Insta360 link webcams to one PC at the same time, Will VMIX recognize each one? Will I switch between Cam1, Cam2, Cam3, in Vmix, on a livestream?
Hi Primal - if someone sends you a Zoom link for an interview, what is the video/audio output quality for the Insta360? It was terrible with the OSBOT 4K.
I use an iMac with the built in camera for Facebook video conversations with friends about their Macaws, but the resolution is horrible. Will this camera also work for video talks on Facebook? Thanks!
Very cool!- It would make a really good dedicated 4k top down only shot camera for $299! Also, I was hoping you would drop an F bomb at 8:26 and forget to edit it out :) hahahha
Hi I wonder if you could help me please, I use Kinemaster for editing my You Tube videos all of a sudden the video is out of sync I have tried to look for a solution and it's suggested to change camera setting to most compatible could you help please. Thanks In advance
I have a wireless mic system that plugs into my smart phone presently. wondering if my wireless mic can plug into this camera or how one is used with it if possible. I aslo want to have 3 or 4 cameras running on a single take, that I can control by cuing up all of them with one push of a button. I don't think these insta 360 cams can do that or am I mistaken?
Great vid Justin and love the sound of this camera. One issue, am I right by saying you said it's $299? If so you're wrong as nearly everywhere it's betwén $512-$628 so not sure where yougot the 299$ from.. J! 👍
Sounds like a great webcam. That said, at $300 it seems targeted for either 1. RU-vid creators who also use it as a primary camera or 2. Podcasters who need highest quality for what they're doing. For ordinary users who just appear on others' channels now and then it's probably overkill.
I would say it's for neither case. I own two low budget cameras one being a DSLR. This is for people who want an overkill camera for useless zoom meeting or for teachers it would be great. Maybe tutorials. This camera doesn't even have wifi amongst other things a full camera would have for content creation. I purchased this then returned it bc I already have equivalent brio
@@jcap8391 sounds reasonable to me. I literally cannot envision why I personally would *need* a $300 webcam. But different strokes for different folks..... And it's a reminder that even with good, solid channels - carefully evaluate whether what they're recommending or being sponsored to recommend actually meets *your* needs within *your* budget.
I guess I disagree. This camera is cheaper than using a DSLR and a capture card, is much simpler to setup and use, and it will be great 8 years from now.
@@zurvey makes sense. That's why initially I felt it could double as a main camera. Also maybe a vlogging camera, for that matter, if it could be powered portably. That could justify the price. Whether it's better than its competitors depends on the user, I suppose.
@@zurvey I shoot alot of video and edit alot of video. This in no way shape or form is anywhere near as good as even a Cannon M50 which you can buy used around $350 new $500. Has no 3.5 or wireless capability. It's a at home limited gimble. It's your money. I'm trying to not misinform people by saying this is a replacement for any of that bc no way in heck it is. I hope new content creators save their money and prevent headaches by going with something they can use and upgrade.
how do you put links in your videos show they show up in blue, I have tried every which way but can't get it. If you have a video I can watch that. Thanks
It's not listed on their website, so their control app might not be supported, but the webcam itself and the gesture controls may work ok without the software.. I haven't tested it though
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Read the severely invasive privacy policy that comes with this camera. Lots of clueless youtubers completely not paying attention to the privacy policies of products.
