Dealt with those problems for years in Michigan, running oversized guides, 15' plus rods to keep maximum line off the water and coating line and guides all help.

I fished that same day. I went 1/2 pam cooking spray is a must. Bobbers slide like they should and no ice on the eyes. My reels froze from the inside. One was completely effed until I thawed it out at home.
