Installed this system and just changed the filter for the first time. Wish I could show a photo of what the filters looked like. Can't believe the amount of discoloration and sediment that was in my water. Glad that I did this. I opted to filter all the water since my new refrigerator and insta hot all have filters that can get very pricy since they recommend monthly replacement.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like there is quite a lot of sediment in the distribution system, possibly coming from the pipes themselves

Thanks for your videos! They are so thorough. Forgive me if i haven't found it yet, do you have a favorite whole home well water filter for well water. Mostly concerned with pfas/pfos
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 22 часа назад
Well water treatment can be tricky. It's more than likely there are more water issues than just PFAs that need to be addressed. A good first step is to start with a lab test, then use the data to determine appropriate treatment. That said, the system in this video should do a good job reducing any PFAs present - but it won't treat every other well water issue.

Thank Water Filter Guru, I'm trying to decide between the Springwell Futuresoft vs Kind E-3000? My main concern for my water is scale buildup. Thank you!
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 3 месяца назад
Hey John, thanks for the question. How hard is your water? Both the Futuresoft and Kind E-3000 use TAC media to condition the water which should help reduce scale buildup. That said, I always recommend ion exchange water softening to folks with very hard water, as this is the best treatment method which actually removes the scale-causing minerals.

Hi and thanks for sharing your expertise! I'm considering the Kind E-3000UV for a home in Surf City, NC. My water hardness = 10 and it's on city water. Would you choose the Kind E-3000 or the iSpring WGB32BM? The upfront price of the iSpring is about 1/3 the Kind E-3000 but I'd love to know your thoughts.
@waterfilterguru

We always recommend ion exchange to treat water hardness as it's hands down the best method. That said, I know some folks would prefer a salt free solution. Have you had the water tested? What other contaminants are present that need to be addressed?

I have a water softener system that we stopped using last year because of concerns about drinking soft water. Can we use a whole-house system like the Kind E-1000 or Springwell CF in line with the water softener, or is it better to remove the water softener and add the Kind E-3000 or Springwell CF and Salt-Free FutureSoft?
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 2 месяца назад
A whole house filter (like the Kind E-1000 or Springwell CF) targets different contaminants/ water issues than the ion exchange water softener you have. The water softener primarily addresses water hardness, whereas adsorption filters will primarily target contaminants that pose risk with health effects. This article explains the differences in more detail: waterfilterguru.com/water-softener-vs-water-filter/ A water filter does not replace a water softener. If you are on municipal water, it's typically recommended for the water filter to be installed upstream (before) the water softener. This is because the filter will reduce the disinfection chemical (chlorine), which otherwise can damage the resin in the softener and shorten its lifespan. Here's another resource that provides more detail about that waterfilterguru.com/whole-house-water-filter-before-or-after-water-softener/ And finally, water conditioners that use TAC media like the Kind E-3000 or Springwell Futuresoft are intended to address limescale buildup, one of the primary issues caused by water hardness. Depending on how hard your water is, I typically lean towards recommending ion exchange water softeners instead of conditioners like these. Water softeners actually remove the hardness minerals, which is the best way to mitigate their effects on the home's plumbing and appliances. And here's an article explaining the differences between the two waterfilterguru.com/water-softener-vs-water-conditioner/ A point of use reverse osmosis system can reduce the sodium that the water softener adds to your drinking water, if that is the reason you want to avoid drinking softened water. I hope this helps, please let me know if you'd like more clarification.

Since you can't see into the container, how do you know how often to change the filters on the e3000? Can you change the first sediment more often than the others if needed?
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 6 месяцев назад
If you suspect more frequent replacement, then you would need to open the housing and check the filter cartridge. The housing is opaque in order to reduce bacterial growth in the system. If light were able to enter it would promote bacterial growt

Homes with in-ground pools use an auto fill device which adds a lot to the whole house water usage in southern states. Does this make the 1/year replacement of the carbon and sediment filters impractical?
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 8 месяцев назад
You would want to install the filter system downstream of the auto fill device for the pool. No use filtering the water that goes into the pool to become re-chlorinated anyway!

Typically the filter will be installed upstream of the softener. This way the disinfection chemical (if on a city water source) or sediment (if on a well) is removed before the softener, serving to protect the resin in the softener

I would like to use this when washing my car and for drinking water... My head is spinning from everything out there. Thanks
@waterfilterguru

5.8 GPG is moderately hard, but keep in mind a TAC conditioner like the one used in this system does not actually remove the minerals that make up hardness and cause spotting and scale. That said, you will still get water spots, they should just be more easily wiped away. The best way to completely eliminate water spots is to soften the water with an ion exchange water softener which actually removes the minerals

@@Narvon They both use catalytic carbon media which can reduce both chlorine and chloramines. The Springwell tank additionally uses KDF which targets some heavy metals. Cartridge based systems like the Kind have a smaller footprint and require a bit more frequent maintenance (changing cartridges), but it's easy to do. Tank-based systems require less frequent replacement of the media, but when its time its a much more involved job.

What contaminants/ water issues did your well water test indicate the presence of? This system is intended with properly treated water, whether that's from a municipal treatment plant or pretreated well water. This unit is not capable of addressing many common well water contaminants, like iron, manganese, extremely hard water, etc. I would only use this with well water if you are chlorinating it.
@SpoonsAndCoffeeCans
@SpoonsAndCoffeeCans 3 месяца назад
@@waterfilterguru I couldn't tell you exactly what contaminants are in my well water, I never saw the full test. All I got back from the county was that it was hard water (no surprise) but safe to drink. (straight from the well) But the whole point of my first comment was to point out from my experience that this system is not great for well systems and probably not intended to be. However, on their website it does not say this anywhere. Therefore, I could not have known, and a warning to others. But this brings up your statement of 'This system is intended with properly treated water, whether that's from a municipal treatment plant or pre-treated well water.' I guess what do you mean by treated? Do you mean drinkable? Are far as the gov. is concerned, mine is safe to drink, therefore no treatment needed. Or do you mean as close to pure water as you can get? Then what is the purpose of getting a filtration system if it is already treated? Or do you mean free of bacteria and any living organisms? In that case, that is why I bought the UV purification system that Kind also sells. Or do you mean not hard? Then what is the point of selling a water softening filter that claims to make your hard water, soft? Finally, about your statement 'This unit is not capable of addressing many common well water contaminants, like iron, manganese, extremely hard water, etc.' Their website says otherwise. It does say their system addresses these contaminants. kindwater.com/how-to-fix-hard-water-in-your-home/ My point is, I guess my water is just too hard. Kind should've outright said not intended for well systems or TOO hard water.

It is nice, really to know about filters, but I never hear anyone speak to what water should be. Not even sure with all the enviro trails we could ever know what water is actually supposed to be like? Got that starting point? How do you know where you want to go without the destination clearly defined? I see we need minerals and such, and flouride and chlorine should be gone, but our bodies need trace minerals. Not sure that since the industrial revolution there is any uncontaminated water left in the world. So I guess I am asking for a base line.
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 10 месяцев назад
The first step is to test your water using a certified lab (like Tap Score bit.ly/3OPs0Vd), which will provide you with the data on exactly what contaminants and concentrations are present. Then, using the data from the test report, you can work to identify what type of water treatment system(s) you need for your unique situation. Different water issues require different treatment. Some issues impact your plumbing and appliances, while others pose health risks. Without the data, you won't know what you are dealing with.

The water samples were taken from two locations, had a limited range of contaminants, and may not represent the system's performance in other areas or under different conditions. Contaminants were not intentionally added for testing purposes. It was a single test and does not accurately reflect the system's performance under different conditions, with different contaminants, or its performance over a longer period of time. The results are not comprehensive or conclusive. The PF2 filter we used may have been defective. We are currently working on re-testing with a different set of PF2 filters to see if we get similar results or not
