I like Fiskars too. I own the X25 for woodsplitting and the X7 for backpacking (I also take with me the little Fiskars saw SW73). But Fiskars axes have here in France only a 25 year warranty. By the way, Fiskars axes are named after their weight in hundreds of grams (X7 for 0.7 kg, X11 for 1.1 kg, X27 for 2.7 kg...)

Been splitting with my Fiskars since buying my house a half decade ago. I use the Super Splitting Axe primarily, which is basically the X27 without the orange rubber over-molds. Thing is amazing for splitting wood! I also have the 28” chopping axe for felling small trees, which also works exceptionally. Lastly I have the 14” hatchet. Great for limbing trees for kindling, and just general camp duties. Really wanting their maul and the Norden axes. Great review, thanks!

I love my maul. Could use an axe, but I like the exercise. Some people swing a sledge into a tire at the gym for 5 or 10 minutes, I split wood for 15+ hours a week all year long. If you don't work out, just work outdoors.

@@Hello_there_obi I've been using my X27 for over a year now & am extremely impressed with my splitting improvement. I really no longer use my 8lb maul. I definitely use the X27 for large hardwood rounds. It has been a game changer for me.
@Hello_there_obi
@Hello_there_obi 2 месяца назад
@@bobv7753 interesting! I have a variety of rounds including oak.Just getting into the game and had a Stihl 3kg maul. I loved it and really enjoyed the weigh as I would pretty much be able to one-shot everything. Since I don't need to chop a massive amount of wood, I liked the weight because it's been a very good workout for me! But the isocore is 3.6kg which is 20% heavier still. Annoying! Does the X27 get stuck often? It seems to have a slightly less girthy flange to it if that makes sense haha I do have a splitting grenade and a sledgehammer however. So perhaps the X27 is the better choice! I also have no idea if the isocore comes with the 25 year warranty as I'm in the uk.
@bobv7753
@bobv7753 2 месяца назад
@@Hello_there_obi I agree the width being more narrow with the X27 you would expect less splitting outforce but that hasn't been the case for me. On large hardwood rounds I typically do quarter from the edge cuts. Very rarely do I split a large round from the center. I do get lucky sometimes. The design of the X27 head & its light weight provides greater striking force for me. I can swing longer. I also keep mine very sharp. Wet stoning often. On occasion on a stubborn large round I'll start a center split with the X27 then finish with a hammered splitting wedge.

I have a X25. For my purposes it's a fine do all splitter. Small enough to fit in my car for camping, and enough splitting power at home to split the little bit of wood I have for the outside fire pit. I also got the little x7 hatchet after using the X25 for awhile. Honestly the X7 is plenty for splitting wood while camping, paired with a silky big boy 2000 you have quite a decent light weight saw/axe combo. I may pickup the x15 at a later time and get a silky katanaboy 650 go pair with it.

When it comes to the x25 or the x27 it comes down to users arm length. To have an axe that properly fits you if you hold the axe from right under the head and the end of the handle reaches your armpit it’s the perfect length. I love my x25.

Not necessarily. It depends on what platform you use it for splitting. I'm 5. 8 and I split only logs lying down on the ground. So I need long handle to not to cut my legs off, for me x27 does the job. People using log on a log technique needs shorter handle like x25.
@chrisE815
@chrisE815 9 месяцев назад
I'm a short dude... Hoping the x27 works fine for me... Pretty sure it will as my current maul is 35" in length. The longer the handle, the more power delivered. I can only see length being an issue if the handle is too short, as this is a safety concern. I suppose if you are really really short, the x25 may be appropriate.

Mate. Absolutely love the vid. I'm 61, kind of just retiring, and moved to a place with some land and trees, and I spent a couple of hours today experimenting with cutting some seasoned hard wood (Damson) and some newly felled softwood (Willow), using my Son's SDS drill with various splitting chisels, my short handled axe (British made - I'm a Pom 😁) just to get a "feel". Do I buy a log splitter etc........ The "Wet" willow, was almost impossible with the SDS, and the Damson, not far behind. Being a silly old f@rt, I was trying to do the least effort, but honest to God, I found the axe the easiest........ I stopped smoking a few years ago mind 😜. The damson was EASY to split (only 6-7" diameter) and even the wet willow (18" to maybe 30") was easier to split with the axe - by a mile!!!!. Great learning day today mate - and then you popped up, and proved me right with the Fiskar X27....... Hard graft. It's the future mate 🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

As a finn I feel of course a great honor in our products, so take my words with a bit of salt, but I've split wood from since I was 8 up until now when I'm 18. And I can say without a shadow of a doubt that in my short lifetime the fiskars axes have served me very well and are the best affordable and commercially available axes. Seeing how the axe I'm using nowadays is probably near the same age as me, I can't stress enough how reliable they are with very low maintenance. From smaller hatchets if you need quickly chop up some smaller firewood to the 30+" splitting axes that will make work of most wood. I don't have much experience with the mauls though because there's almost never any need for a proper maul here in finland

good for price and of course they have lifetime/25 year warranty depend on country , normal ordinary axes get broke too often on wooden handle down there

G'day from Perth also mate .I use a cyclone 2.5kg wide angle maul that destroys Jarrah usually in 1 swing. The bigger the axe/splitter the more effect it has but yea it hurts later on cheers mate

Just got myself a x27 two weeks ago haven’t used it yet, always been a fan off the wooden handle axe but used the fiskers at work to chop about 5 ton off wood for my boss , nice and light and not much jarring also no damage to to handle at the back of axe head when over chop👍 I reckon that big girl could smash some spuds 🤣 👍🥔🇦🇺
@BushRats

haha 5 tonne would have ya wrecked by the end! nothing a feed of spuds would fix tho 🥔 😂

I wonder if they even had those X names back when I bought the axes. Must have been more than two decades ago. I guess the bigger one might be X25 and the smaller X11. After I had tested the X25 for the first time, I told my dad it's so good the blocks will split from sheer fright when they see the axe. I have also used the tiniest one from the selection. It's pretty funny.

I have some nice Grandfors, Hultifors, Sandvics etc but the axes that go in the ute for camping are the Fiskars. The steel is made from marshmello but that is not the point of them. They get abused and I don't mind my mates using them.

I am 5ft. tall and of the axes I saw you use I liked the x 27 the best but I am sure the 25 would do a good job as well.

If you want the saw to last you a while let it idle a bit so the cylinder warms up before you throttle up !

I thought the Fiskars things were some sort of homeowner joke. Boy I was wrong. I got the X25 and it's great. split about 2-3 cords with it. So much easier on your body than the big heavy old school maul. I got the x27 when that came out and it is nice for some more knotty wood. had a few big over strikes and the handle is fine

Takže se mi vyplatí na štípání 1m dlouhých špalků v lese k mé x25 dokoupit ještě x27 a bude to snazší práce??? Díky za odpověď..

I've got about 3ton of blue gum rounds to split, torn between getting the maul or the x27. Is it a case of can't go wrong with either? (I'm a big boy and weight train regularly)

The real test is like very twisted big birch, but I leave my hydraulic splitter to talk with these! Yeah Made in Finland! My oldest one is almost 20 years old (that one is without no orange in plastic grip) like a new still! Fiskars do wide wariety of wood tools and impactless hammers too! And those scissors (just google it) those are legendary!

The 8 and 10 pound mauls will tire ya out FAST. The 4 pound maul is used on small logs. > Any thing that needs a handle? I'am going to the POLY HANDLES! Reason? Can grip them better than wooden handle, less shock on the hands and arms. I had to replace the 6 pounder maul handle and the POLY HANDLE IS EXCELLENT > It will never come loose and take a beating. The poly glue that come with it is? EXCELLENT It takes a full 24 hours to harden
