Me: oh boy I can’t wait to learn about how the game changed over time Odyssey Central: the magnifying glass handle is a different color than in the final game

I’m pretty sure that the beta version of the “under the angry sun” level was in the Mario 3 style so the angry sun would be more recognizable in the trailer, as the Mario u angry sun look well... y’know

Imagine if the small changes such as the semi solids being changed and the pipe colors being changed were made by a worker who was bored and changed the game as much as he could without Nintendo noticing...

I think the red-brown underground look in smb3 was intended to just be used in that level but they made it look normal so people wouldn’t complain that they couldn’t use it. It sucks but I think that’s it

This will be interesting because The SMM1 Beta was so weird considering it was all new but SMM2 will have all the SMM1 cotent to build off on.

11:02 this is not technically brand new. The enemy is called a foo. It appears in the meringue clouds world of mario u. It blows out fog which you can blow away by spin jumping. This enemy can be killed like most ememies. However it can not be killed with a fireball.

The beta twister looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost or the similar enemy from Mario Odyssey found in the Snow Kingdom.

There have been a lot of fun games on the switch from Mario Odyssey, to BOTW. But now I'm into Mario maker and I'm loving it!!!

3:46 actually that's the thing you see when you die twice (or 3 times I forget) and Luigi helps you out by adding the button and letting you place 1 of each powerup and 99 Breakable Blocks (by bombs)

Here's a small change that was made between the version 1.0.1 and version 1.1 update. With the Track Blocks in 3D World, the effect they make when they're about to disappear and respawn was slightly adjusted to be faster and play more times.

My theory for the style changing is because it would be harder to connect the story mode level for what you see in the trailer, so it would spoil less. But hey, thats just my opinion ;)

I wouldn’t have minded them just offering alternate colour palettes for the ground sometimes. After all, if you go into the emulator settings in the old games, you can change the colours of everything practically with hexadecimal.

Me seeing Mario Maker 2 all over my recommended made me start playing the game again

I wish SMB3's brown underground theme remained in the final release.

11:04 the reason why the SMB3 Underground was orange in the beta version is one of the programmers at Nintendo is colorblind.

A small change was the eraser’s eyes winking in the beta while non winked in the final version.

One big change I notice in 3D World is that the lighting was changed for the better. The beta lighting looked a little bit too gradienty, the shadows for some enemies go past the ground, and the colors aren't too saturated. Plus, everything isn't too plasticy or shiny in the final, unlike in the original Super Mario 3D World where it had all of those exact problems that I just mentioned. Also, the shapes for blocks (Hard Blocks, Brick Blocks, and ? Blocks) were ever so slightly adjusted to pop more. Thirdly, the Ninja Attack sound effect was changed to have it be stationary instead of chasing Mario. Lastly, the Maker Points being 350 without any uploaded courses is likely for showing purposes.

The beta look for twisters is the enemy Fwoosh/Foo, and this most lukely proves that they are varients of one another.

Let's hope Nintendo will hopefully add more themes. I know the 3D World theme did mix it up a bit from just the SMB, SMB3, SMW and NSMBU themes but still.

12:38 If you have seen SMM2 unused content videos, some will say about the files showing when they were last edited. The level was edited before the change was made, and editing it again will most likely fix it.

The slowmo game captures made this a bit difficult to watch at times, but aside from that, great video.

The ghost house level is a puzzle room level in the story mode, but It's a secret stage

The Angry Sun's story mode course was rendered in Super Mario Bros. 3 desert graphics in the beta. It was changed to New Super Mario Bros. U in the final game.

Maybe you should do Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts next. I'm sure Beta64 would be proud of you.

The way you build clear pipes is visually different in the beta it has no end while building it but in the final you see the end or the entrance while building it

Orange Underground could have been like an Underground theme for Deserts, and we could have had Underground equivalents of Snow, Jungle and the like.
