@@no5thdown She was just saving her own life. Why should she die for someone who'll be dead in any case anyway. Or be pardoned. She is not of a great name, nobody would care if she lives or dies, so why she is forbidden to take care of herself?
@@LSG101097 if someone you trusted, maybe even loved, betrays you for any reason, does that lessen the betrayal? I’m sure you’re right, if Cersei was the one who captured her, it was a matter of life or death. Tyrion tried multiple times to get her out of Kings Landing and to safety but she wouldn’t go. She was resistant and bitter about it. But what if she went to Tywin or Cersei and betrayed Tyrion simply because she wanted to be close to power and fortune? Remember where Tyrion finds her later. That’s a betrayal by both Shae and his father.
“I didn’t kill Joffrey, but I wish that I had! Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores!” 🔥🔥 I actually never cared much for Shay but I was TRULY shocked when she came around the corner
4th season is possibly the best season in the entire show, and Tyrion and his storyline is a huge part of why this season is so great. That speech on the trial was simply insane, phenomenal actor!
It’s definitely top tier Game of Thrones, However; season 5 has ‘Hardhome’ & ‘Mother’s Mercy’ and season 6 has the ‘Battle of the Bastards’ & ‘The Winds of Winter.’ All of whichever are masterpieces.
True enough but the seasons as whole, I'd say they are not consistent in quality after s04, because some characters are changed a lot after they ran out of material from them from the books.@@Sebas.504
@@Sebas.504The rest of those two seasons are mostly mediocre, especially season 5. Every episode of season 4 ends on a fantastic note leaving you wanting more each time. It's by far the best season of the show & the second half of it is the peak of television.
"That looks unstable. It looks like it might fall." Fun fact. It's loosely based on a real ancient statue called the Colossus of Rhodes. If you can believe it, it fell.
@@HuntingVioletsSure, but it’s also not like they weren’t aware that earthquakes were common in that part of the world and so the decision to build it in the first place is a bit questionable, though certainly an interesting attempt 😂 I mean, I guess if the point was to just see if they could do it and how long it would last then mission accomplished I guess. Certainly cool.
You must have missed where "name I can't pronounce" said his father spoke out against crucifying the children. I think you also forgot they discovered Shae, since you were oddly confused about what she was doing.
Dany's dragons aren't fully grown. Think of them as young teens in dragon size/years. The whole trial was a manipulation as you figured out by Tywin, to get Jamie to quit the Kings Guard and resume his place as heir to Casterly Rock. But that deal was thrown out the window when Tyrion demanded a trial by combat. That's why those two exchange death stares at the end.
I love how seriously you took the map advice. And this interactive map with characters you got going now is genius and priceless. All GoT reactors need to do this, to combat the confusion.
I DEEPLY appreciate how much you guys genuinely understand this show. So many reactors I’ve seen just do it for the big moments. Y’all understand the layers. Love y’all.
@@LSG101097she wasn't doing it to survive lol are you dumb? She plainly said "I am a whore, remember?" Meaning that she did out of spite and pettiness and you can clearly see it later on when she's in tawin's bed.
I love how confused Cody was when Shae started spouting nonsense. I felt the same. Like it felt out of character. In the books, Shae was more obviously not in love with Tyrion and just did a girlfriend service for the money. But in the show, she was so empathetic, and felt too genuinely caring for him and Sansa. Did the betrayal work? Sure, I didn't see it coming. But boy did it leave a bad taste in my mouth. I truly felt betrayed but my disappointment and anger was directed to the writers LMAO.
I don't know man, having not read the books, it always occured to me that at some point, Tywin got in touch with Shae and got her under his thumb, kinda like the story about Tyrion's first wife, how Tywin had it all planned from the beginning. Of course this theory doesn't work with the books as I seem to understand from comments ^^
@@999Ecko We know exactly at what point that Tywin got to Shae. It was right before the Purple Wedding. Remember in that episode, "Bring her to the tower of the hand", so we know she never actually left the capitol, even though Bronn told Tyrion that he saw her leave on the ship. Now of course at that point, there was no way that even Tywin had any thought of using Shae in some manner as to betray Tyrion in a trial, but Tywin is a quick thinker, he saw an opportunity to not only get Jamie to renounce his Kingsguard position and come back into the family, but to also get rid of Tyrion to send him to take the Black (as Tywin wont kill his own son, sending him to the Nights Watch is the closest thing to killing him)
yea, this was one of the first examples of how the game of thrones writers lean into shock value over character development. Sadly, it gets worse the more they take the reins. This still happens to work because the emotions and the acting are at a 10/10 from everyone involved.
the scene where shae is ordered to be seized easily gets lost in all the events, but if you remember it and how shae was established to be ruthless and impulsive, it's not too shocking
@@windy8544 "shae was established to be ruthless and impulsive" nah, this is just her characterization changing wildly from scene to scene based off of what was needed at the moment. Its just bad writing.
I wish I could go back and experience this show for the first time like you guys are. Been tempted to rewatch it but I'm basically doing that with you guys haha. Love the videos and both of your energy
i was looking bridgett and cody last night cuz it was a while since the last GoT episode, was watching their Saw video to hold me over, then i wake up to the next episode :D
Just so we’re clear, Shaes betrayal makes absolutely zero sense in the show unless you’re willing to accept that she has the mental capacity of a 6 year old. But in the books she never once actually cares about Tyrion so her “betrayal” makes much more sense
Yeah, it was handled kinda weird. They developed her character and their relationship a lot on the show which made the reveals more "shocking" television, but it also didnt make a great deal of sense how she could so cruelly & heartlessly betray Tyrion to his death and go back to just being a whore. They demonstrated multiple times that Shae actually does have integrity and cant simply be bought off, but then decided: "oh nah, shes just a petty jealous whore. Bitches be crazy, right?"
Eh, thats not how I read it. Once you realize that Shae never really did leave King's Landing, and that this whole trial is pretty much scripted to screw over Tyrion, it was obvious to me that Shae is being well compensated to lie, and even if she did ever have feelings for Tyrion, she is more about getting paid than anything else. Hell, in hindsight her tears when Tyrion finally made her "leave" in the early part of the season may have been because she was losing the lifestyle and money she now had. So yeah its possible that even in the show, that Shae never actually cared for Tyrion. Now...SPOILERS.... Seriously.... spoilers for those that are only up to this episode.... We clear? Good. So, yes us that have seen the rest of the season: We all now know that Shae really never left the capital for another reason: That line from the episode before the Purple Wedding, when Cersei pointed Shae out to Tywin, and Tywin uttered "Have her brought to the tower of the Hand." And then of course, thats exactly where Tyrion finds her when he looks to find his father. Meaning, Tywin is a fucking hypocrite, telling Tyrion to not bring a "whore to court", we see that he's not actually against it, as he now is keeping the very same whore for himself. Thus we can surmise that it was Tywin himself that put Shae up to giving that lying testimony during the trial. All this makes complete sense from the show's perspective. Yeah the books are a bit different but thats okay, the show I think did a masterful job with this bit of change.
I have to disagree. They established Shae's jealousy and insecurity in season 3. She told Tyrion "I am your whore, and when you are tired of f*cking me, I will be nothing". If that is what she truly believed before any of this stuff in season 4 went down, I can't see it as unreasonable that she would do what she did. The night they met, she threathened to carve his eyes out of his head when she didn't like his questions, so a vicious side has always been there. All I would have asked for was perhaps one more scene to flesh out her motive. A scene between her and Cersei in episode 4x7 would have been great.
@@darth856 but see that entire jealousy and insecurity only works if you can accept the fact that she has the mental capacity of a 6 year old. No person in their early 20s would have trouble comprehending the fact that you will be brutally murdered by Tywin if he finds out you’re with Tyrion, she constantly goes on these rants about how Tyrion doesn’t care about her and it’s like bro use your damn brain for 30 seconds.
@@RyoHazuki224 I mean yeah all that is true for book Tyrion who is never anything but Tyrions whore, she knows her role and actively uses it to her advantage. Her betrayal of Tyrion is something she actively chooses to do because she’s using it to move up in the world. Show Shae does it because she’s sad her boyfriend doesn’t want her killed, once they get to Kings Landing Shae is never once shown to care about the money and is genuinely in love with Tyrion and it just doesn’t make sense or work if she actually likes him SPOILER!!!!!!!!! And the idea that show Shae would sleep with Tywin is one of the most laughable things ever done in this show. Season 4 really does have some of the most shit writing but no one wants to admit it
I heard theory that it was Bronn who brought Shae to Lannisters. On Joffrey's wedding Tyrion asks Bronn if he escorted her on a ship and Bronn says Tyrion that everything is okay and Shae is gone. But Tyrion also asks Bronn about his new armor, if I am not mistaken. The thing is, how they got Shae if Bronn said she was sailed away and it was his responsibility to make sure she did?
did you know that every intro that comes on it changes? i love jon snow, arya, danny, jorah, theon. you should react to the last kingdom also, it's such a good show and you'd love it.
The statue they sailed under is basically a representation of a real statue called The Colossus in Rhodes, Greece. It was one of the 7 wonders of the world but I believe a earthquake knocked it down over 1000 years ago.
The Colossus of Bravos (the big statue at the entrance of Bravos) is actually based upon the Colossus of Rhodes that stood in the greek isle of Rhodes, erected in 280 BC. It was considered one of the Seven Wonders in ancient times. And yes, it wasn't that stable, got destroyed by an earthquake only ca. 60 years later.
Shae has been mad at Tyrion ever since he and Sansa were betrothed. Then he literally yelled the worst things he could to get her to leave. She’s big mad, DUMB, but mad
Remember when Cersei pointed Shae out to Tywin at the wedding rehearsal dinner? Tywin said "have her brought to the tower of the hand" so possibly she is being threatened?
Shae was DEFINITELY threatened if she didnt lie she would be executed plus she still felt betrayed and abandoned by Tyrion. I LOVE this episode, Peter Dinklage is amazing
There was definately some level of coercion involved. Especially to make her betray Sansa. But she did feel real resentment against Tyrion and added embarrassing details into the testimony that Cersei or Tywin would not have known about.
I've been waiting for you to get to the trial. Tyrion's monolog is one of my favorite scenes in the show. As amazing as all the fight scenes and stuff are, some of the best moments of the show are just someone talking.
Tyrion's "confession" is arguably one of my favorite acting scenes in the entire show..can't say what due to potential spoilers, but certain clues and seeds have already been planted that there is another reason Tywin hates Tyrion besides him being born a dwarf and killing his wife in childbirth..
Does Tywin act like a man who really wants to find out who killed the king or like a man who's happy to have found a proper scapegoat to cover for his own plan? In the former case, he would be suspecting everyone and have parallel investigations going, He would also resent having the Lannister name tarnished by the accusation on Tyrion.
Yes, wouldn’t the people who worked in the mines at the very least talk about how they aren’t finding anything, if not suddenly be out of a job entirely?
14:09 Guys I dont know if you were too angry to pay attention (rightfully so) or not, but in that scene the son said that his father spoke up against crucifing those children, but was overuled by the others masters. That is why Dany made a mistake, she acted out of rage, that can not happen to a ruler, Dany has to be able to take step back and think before she does something like this. Wherethere she likes it or not, the masters are her people now too. ATTENTION: SPOILER DISCUSSION IN COMMENTS UNDER THIS POST, NOT VIEW IF NOT CAUGHT UP TO SEASON 7
@@Nihilanth did I say that he was a good man?? I said Dany sould have taken a step back from her rage because that is what a good ruler does. She punished him for a crime he did not commit without a fair trial, wich is wrong. He still was a piece of shit, yes, and he should have gotten A TRIAL based on those crimes, no the ones he did not commit, because in the long run this is going to cause more problems for her than for them

"Kissed by Fire", "Two Swords" & "The Laws of Gods & Men" are my favorite episodes....just some amazing scenes in each....so many others as well. Your reactions are just the best. Love you guys!
The scene where Danny is talking with the Hizdar guy , his father was against killing of the slave children as he said , So technically the guy is right Danny killed an innocent man. This shows that she's not a good leader and too prone to act on her impulses .
“Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman” 😬 I truly believe Shae did love Tyrion, but when he turned her away the way he did, she completely flipped and would do anything (or anyone) to get back at him 😢 I hate it!
