The way the Ka could synonymous with the life force/soul might be explained by active imagination. (Carl Jung)

@@nexusvoid314 active imagination is a technique to get answers back from your soul from questions. You talk to your soul and you wait for a reply. I've tried it, feels fake at first but the responses might surprise you like they come from somewhere else. I think that is what the pharaoes must've done too, its quite explainable if thats the case. You literally ask questions in your mind and have a conversation with your favorite conversation partner; yourself xd

Your explanation of the Ka makes a lot of sense, like every good theory! Different ways of thinking help us understand complex phenomena even though I guess we will never know the complete truth about them...

Staggeringly good extrapolation of Jayne’s theory into the role and nature of the Ka. I am confident that Egyptology will ultimately catch up to you. Just as Jayne’s assertions can demystify in one fell swoop such diverse phenomena as schizophrenia, hypnosis and imaginary friends, your own creative but well reasoned arguments make sense of a lot of Pharoic behaviour which otherwise takes great contortions of logic to explain. Clear, succinct and helpful as always. Thank you.

Thank you for explaining this. I would take the four ears represents the Pharoah's ears and the Pharoah's Ka's ears hearing the discussion. We could interpret it as both hemispheres hearing the message of the Gods, which implies a qualitative difference in right-brain understanding of a message and left-brain understanding of a message.

I’m so glad I found your videos, the bicameral mind theory is something that fascinates me and you give such concise explanations. Something I’d love to hear your opinion on is what role do you think rituals play into auditory hallucinations? It seems the majority of religious experiences are induced by some sort of ritual. For example the rituals around the Egyptian ka statues seem to prepare the mind for a state to receive auditory hallucinations. Is it only post-bicameral man that uses ritual to experience the bicameral state of their ancestors? It seems pretty universal to mankind that they use rituals to get closer to the gods. Would love to know your thoughts, thanks for the videos!

As a happy- go-lucky-teenager I hopped on a a bus. - the old hop on-hop off kind. It was late evening, no passengers in the bus except one man sitting quite close by the 'bus conductor' who gave me my ticket. Then I moved along the bus to choose a seat. Out of nowhere in what seems to be my right ear, I hear a voice saying firmly 'watch that man'. Well, that's weird thinks I. I just try to shake it off, but when the bus arrives at my stop I delay getting off until the bus actually stops; something I never used to do . I get off the buss and....the lone man gets off just after. I'm thinking 'Oh, he could live around here' etc, etc. but at the same time I'm considering which route was the best one to take to get to my/my mother's house. I decide and walk down the road , positively striding very firmly as the man follows and starts calling to me. I ignore him and - just as reach the house gate 'Lone Man' tries to grab me. Luckily, at that point the gate opened - and 'Lone Man' ran off. That was the first time I heard that 'voice' but it has shown up at odd times since being very definite (once I got No, No, NO! ) I'm happy my KA seems to stay with me as being somebody who is definitely no longer a teenager, but who is still rather naive (trusting? stupid?) Wonder if others will/ have already come forward with similar stories. If they do you might find it useful when looking at your work with the Bicameral Mind.

You've had MANY outstanding video essays. This is perhaps the MOST impressive, at least from the perspective of providing legit contributions to fleshing out Jaynes' theories, using actual archeological evidence. Well done, my friend. Imagine if you were giving this lecture to the British Natural History Society, in like 1895 London. Heads would explode. But, like, in the best way possible

I'm pretty sure priests ate food left for the "gods"/statues. It didn't just rot away. Many similar cultures have their priests eat the offerings, like Israel.

That was fascinating! Is it correct, or too simple, to think of an audio hallucination as just 'hearing your own inner voice'?

It might have been hearing their own voice, but they perceived it as the voice of someone or something else.

Good hypothesis but I think they just believed the Ka was the soul. The kings were reincarnations of the same soul.
@nexusvoid314
@nexusvoid314 7 месяцев назад
I think this is somewhat true during more recent periods of Egyptian history. The original ka eventually became something like soul, but only when the idea could be abstracted.
@sv6k0a39
@sv6k0a39 7 месяцев назад
@@nexusvoid314 Maybe, but I think their artwork is very symbolic and should not be taken at face value. The depictions of the Ka as a separate entity is just an illustration of the eternal soul which is separate from the body. They probably believed that the soul can also be temporarily stored in an effigy/statue. To call them schizophrenics is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
@nexusvoid314

@@sv6k0a39 That's fair. What do you think of modern shamanic societies who actively facilitate hallucinations and believe they are accessing a spiritual world?
@sv6k0a39
@sv6k0a39 7 месяцев назад
@@nexusvoid314 I believe they are not "hallucinating" and they are actually accessing the spiritual realm. To use the word "hallucinate" implies their experience is not real. I think this is a western materialist biased viewpoint which is unfair. I'm the type of person that thinks the spirit realm exists and the soul is real. I just think our world/universe is just one of many realities.

@@sv6k0a39 Oh I see. I actually don't think your wrong. I believe, in a sense, it is both. I think all "psyche" including an our consciousness can be explained in a relative sense and an absolute sense. The theory in this video discusses it in a relative sense.

Hey! Thanks for the video. A psychologist I had a conversation with told me that most schizophrenics are actually aware of their hallucinations and delusions. That could explain why the Pharaoh might have had hallucinations and was also aware that he is hearing voices in his head. Also I was wondering, was there enough time for the brain to evolve the connection between the hemispheres since the Ancient Egypt? If not, then it must have had a psychological explanation. If thats the case, I am thinking it might be either the child's internalized parent or collective unconscious archetypes that somehow evolved into audible hallucinations. I would love to hear your thoughts and join the discussion! I think this topic is really fascinating.

Intuition and this "god mind" is not from right hemisphere, neither is ego from left one. Ego is from frontal cortex and inner areas of brains near the spine, and the "god mind" and intuition is from .cerebellum. This left vs right brain thing is a misinterpretation from the fact that left and right hemispheres process things bit differently, right in more holistic fashion and left more detailed, for example right has to do with construction of sentences and left with words. Even if this is big picture vs detail, its different from intuition or having this sense of past and present, possibilities etc. I highly recommend people checking what modern neuroscience has found about cognitive functions of cerebellum, it is not just for producing movement patterns, but unconsciously directing thought patterns, and this is what intuition and the truly holistic "god mind" is about. This idea that its just left vs right brain is way outdated and based on some very early theories expanded by people hypothetizing without having better sense of how brains work (due to idea being that old).

I highly recommend the work of the current neuroscientist Patrick McNamara. He's written several things that, to my mind, are a way of taking the intuition in _The Origin of Consciousness_ without requiring any significant neural change from literacy... McNamara has some YT vids & articles, but i think you'd really enjoy his _Spirit Possession: History, Psychology, and Neurobiology_. It develops a theory of possession that is congruent with the Bicameral Mind idea (neurologically almost opposite, though), a concept he develops in neurological detail in _The Neuroscience of Religious Experience_ and about dreams in _Nightmares_. You'd like it, i think...
