Many people are wondering what happened to my two Evolve bikes, I ended up selling those. I was more interested in other bikes so the Maiden replaced the Skypilot and the Patrol replaced the Alpha 27. I did enjoy the Evolve bikes and it was nice to have those to ride, I also wish I kept the Alpha 27 a bit longer and made more content with it, but ultimately I wanted to ride other bikes, I was supposed to have the Patrol a lot sooner actually but delays happened. I am very happy with what I have now! And like I said, I don't care for getting new bikes every year anymore!
Your davincy willson lengthens the distance from your chainring to your rear cog as is goes trough the travel. This is pulling your chain and that's why the pedals move. Every supsension design has a different amount of pedal kickback so that's why your willson has more pedal kickback then other bikes
Yeah also the reason it happens at slower speed is because your freehub acts like a buffer against chain engagement/growth when at higher speed. If you are going slower, the chain growth is faster than your freehub can cancel out so the chain will engage.
i really appriciate how you dont crap on old bikes like some people. i ride a 2006, and get negative comments all the time. its refreshing to see someone else who rides the hell out of an oldie
that thing with the cranks moving on the wilson is actually because when the shock compresses, and you have a high engagement hub, the chain shortens which makes the cranks move (the higher POE, the more movement)
Learned about you thru Seth. Then was wondering why only the Wilson back then when you were starting you channel and no sponsors, look at you now woohoo!!!✌
I’m a carpenter and have had the same problem with muscle problems in my elbow from drills and such torquing on my arm. I use kinesio tape when it’s acting up it works great! I usually just cut a slit in it to go around my elbow.
That 2020-2021 Patrol, I so regret selling it. It's the best jump bike, climber and steep descender, imo. My other five bikes are missing something, too drunk to think about it but the Patrol is like a XC,DJ, enduro, DH and trail all in one.
About Wilson, that sound, I had exactly the same problem with my Kona Entourage, and you are right, it's a hub, suspension design issue, pedal kick etc. Only way to remove it is to get a silent hub with instant engagement or something like Hydra.
The rearhub engaging when you go through your travel on the Devinci is due to something called anti-squat. It's what makes the bike efficient when pedalling, it doesn't dive through your suspension when you pedal. When your pedals move it's called pedal feedback and it sucks, I have a lot of it on my Pyga with high antisquat. Different bikes have different amounts, lower engagement hubs also decrease the amount of pedal feedback, it's why some brands like DT swiss don't go over 54 points of engagement in the freehub.
Slamming the Wilson's back wheel on the ground was a display of what pedal kickback is. That's why newer high pivot bikes have idler pullies at the pivot. It keeps the effective chainstay length from increasing, which minimizes the effects of kickback.
That BMX is a Haro Premium, they're a newer branch of Haro Bikes, and they are indeed premium, besides the wheels. Those are single-walled rims i bet and they will def bend if you try anything major
A rear hub with less engagement points will reduce pedal kickback at slow speeds. Find the happy medium between quick pedal engagement / pedal kickback. Super nice bikes .
I think Jordan sanded it and put some nail polish or something on it when he scratched it. He did that a good while back I think it’s not tearing up the seals
This was so sick and interesting man 🤩 thank you for this one. Worth of waiting 👍 I have often had similar elbow problems as you. I am an electrician by profession so I guess it's pretty normal for myself 🥴
I have an issue that sounds similar to the issue you have with the first bike you talked about. Try tightening all of the bearings, even if you just torque it a little bit it will fix the problem. It worked for my Santa Cruz.
It's been a minutes since you done a bike cheek like most people would love to see you on your BMX at the skate park I managed to get out on my Wilson one word to describe it right on as you would say living in the UK hard to get out it rains all the have to pick the right day and I did sunny all day 26 ent Dead
Hey Jordan! I know im a little late but i just got myself a 2018 DeVinci Wilson and i have the same pedal kickback. Other than that its an awesome bike to ride.
At 4:55 that thing with the engaging the hub also happens to my 2016 devinci Spartan so it may be something to do with the suspension layout at the time.
I’ve got the same exact issue as your Wilson on my 2015 gambler, it just got worse and I’ve got no idea why though. It almost sounds like the axle’s loose, even though it’s not
The Wilson is back pedaling most likely due to pedal kickback or the outcome when your suspension compresses and the chain length changes… try a high pivot if you can and you’ll notice a huge difference It’s weird that theres that much kick back though
the "engaging rear hub" when you smash the rear suspension is called pedal kickback. It's due to the suspension design the chain stay length grows and tugs the chain. Modern bikes have gotten a lot better with reducing pedal kickback where it matters deeper into the travel but still having some level of anti squat around sag for pedaling (more on enduro bikes). This is the reason high pivot bikes exist so the rear wheel can have a rearward movement to move with the bumps and out of the way instead of going straight up and then even reducing chain stay length at the top, this provides a smoother ride and better traction with that rear wheel movement and chain stay length growing so much under compression, however, this will result in a ton of pedal kickback if a high pivot is not used. Also, curious why you choose to ride size small bikes at 5'10? I'm about 6ft and I always choose Large but if I were 5'10 I'm positive I would ride a Medium or maybe even a Large depending.
to the Problem of the wilson turning the Hub when you push down the rear suspension: I think there are some cranks that can like swiggle so the motion angaged by the rear suspension doesnt reach the pedals
I love that you made a video about why not to get used bikes, but then that very bike launched you into your full time career on youtube. Im not saying I disagree, its just ironic ig.
Since you like the okder bikes you should try a 2013 canfield jedi. They have the 26 inch wheels you like can be fitted with downhill forks. I have a but newer marzocchi 888 on mine its still “outdated” but man its so smooth. Ive hit rock gardens and roots as hard as i can possibly go and havent dropped chain because of the high idler.
The canfield also has less pedal Kick back than the wilson ive been running a suuuuuuper steep head angle at 59.5 degrees and its holding up really good. They have extra support in the head tube area. Makes for a heavy bike but the things a tank and can be hucked around for life.
Hey boostmaster I have a norco truax and my bike makes the same noise like the hub in gaging as the Devinci I think it’s actually the hub that makes the sound it’s from the older hubs!!
At slower speed you are in a lower gear probably. So 1 unit of pedal kickback results in a bigger pedal pull backwards. If you are at a higher gear, you pedal less and move more. But when you are rolling backwards, in a low gear you have to pedal way faster backwards. Essentially, these kickbacks are tiny backward pedal moves initiated by your suspension travel. I have this on my PIvot Shuttle on slow tech stuff it is annoying because it is activating the motor's pedal sensor and it makes a weird noise at the same time.... on my normal bikes I don't see it a lot even though they are longer travel ( Shuttle is 140mm, others are 165-180 mm)
Man I’m lovin your bikes! Wish I could get free parts to upgrade my POS. Really sucks not being able to afford a decent bike or parts to upgrade what I’ve got.
