85 - 93....Amazing Synth pop music, incredibly fun fashion(The Neon colours, big hair & ear rings), larger than life imaginative cozy comforting creative commercials, No smart phones, no social media, NO internet, The Nintendo NES & Late 80's arcades ruled the world, followed up with the Genesis, GameBoy & SNES, cartoons were fantastic, people in general just seemed more optimistic during those times, and when you stepped outside your door it felt like magic. I seriously miss those days. But as i get older it feels like my memories are slightly fading, like the level of nostalgia, impact and just the feeling i used to get thinking about those exact same times 10-15 years ago, compared to now isn't the same. But ya, I feel like pop culture went down hill after 95. The early 90's were a LOT different than the late 90's. I'd take the early 10 fold, no question! Much better times IMO.

You and I are about the only people I know with a home stereo, Gil. Actually, I have 5 complete high-end systems. One is put away. I have one in each main room of the house, and none of the bedrooms have one. In fact, the airbnb half has no stereo either. Only my area, lol! If I had kids, they would pay for their own phones and the bills. Same with gas, registration and insurance for their free cars, lol! That's how people learn responsibilities.

Well, I'm like you Gilbert, middle aged and grew up in the 70's and 80's. I have my Uncle's old Fisher Studio Standard 8500 rack system. That cost 3 grand in 1980. I have my old Onkyo M508 rack system in the living room with 4 vintage Realistic Mach 2 speakers. In the bedroom I have my Pioneer VSX D1S that powers my Energy Veritas speakers and ceiling speakers in the bathroom. I've collected all this over the last 20 years. I like vintage electronics.

Yes,when I was driving in the 80"s gas was around .75 to .79 cents a gallon,I made $3.35 an hour,I bought a VCR in the 80's,it was 3 or 4 hundred dollars,I bought a brand new car in 88 it ewas about $8000.00 and something,I want to say that was with financing,my mom and dad had the floor model TV since the 70's,I had the table top stereo with 2 speakers,I got the atari 2600 for Christmas,of course I bought the camcorder like you bought,it is wild now,we have the cell phones we have,we always had a corded phone, and have to use a pay phone,we used a road map.

We didn’t have as much money as most people but we had 1 tv in the living room until about 1987-88 then we got a vcr and a small tv in my parents bedroom. I didn’t get a tv in my room until I was 92/93 I was about 15 years old and I hooked the Sega Genesis to it.

Gill the only thing I think you missed is how many don't have cable anymore and instead they have streaming on all there devices and also how tvs are not just bigger but so many more things you can do with them. Also online shopping 😂😂😂 but great video none the less 👏👏

I believe the usual size of a TV nowadays is 50 to 55 inches. Personally, I don't know anyone who has a 70-inch TV at home. That's actually the upper limit

Nothing beats a QD-'OLED' at this point in the game. Like the Samsung S90D(2024). 65" seems to be the new standard or most popular size these days, where as 55" is looking just a little too small, unless it's for a bedroom or a small living room. A 50" looked HUGE back in lets say 2008. Just like a 32" FullScreen CRT Tube SDTV did back in the later 90's. I recently watched some home videos and our CRT tube TV in our living room back in 94" was like 20-23" lol

This is what people dont understand. When you had something that was $300 to $400 in the 80s, it wasnt the same as it is today. Great explaining this, Gil.

I love looking at videos like this! This is real life 1980s vs 2020s. It's interesting to see how it actually played out over that time period. Technology today is amazing and almost magical and definitely like a Sci-Fi movie compared to the 80s. But still real life. With the Pros always come Cons. I think 2024 is almost okay, but there is a sense of transition and pessimism that doesn't seem to exist as much in the '80s despite the cold war happening back then. People seemed to be happier and freer and the cost of living was superior to 2024. But on the 16 year old part 😄 I think the 16 year old from the 80s, transported to 2024 would be so excited for at least a week or maybe a couple of weeks, to actually be in the future and use futuristic technology. That is until reality of 2024 set in sadly 😅 Social Media would be very intimidating to use and socializing of the 80s in 2024 would be awkward as you could expect from such a huge jump, lol. A lot of Gen Z is already having social breakdowns, so that would be really depressing for a 16 year old from the 80s to have to deal with that, but he or she could become in the position as a great leader of a friend to them. You put the 16 year old back in the 80s, he or she would become an excellent prophet and may go on to write a beautiful book about the potential future that he or she saw. 💯 ... A 16 year old from today put into the 80s would take time to fit in and adapt to their culture somewhat as well as re-learn to socialize how they did back then. They may go through over-stimulation. That's not even mentioning the technology they are used to. They would get quickly bored in the 80s I would think, but they would have to get over it... But... the 16 year old may want to stay in the 80s despite the different styles of clothes, hair and society. It was simpler to live back then. But that really depends on the person who is the 16 year old, haha. Some would want to come back to 2024 because of the eons better tech even with some of the sorrows. I think Paranoia really changed society in the future from the 80s. Also, they have become more close minded in ways than the 80s and free-minded in others. Both switched places over time... I loved this video! Thanks for sharing Gil. And shoutout to all the future readers, lol...

The people controlling everyone are the makers of electronics. They know people feel pressured into owning "the latest", so they price it at a point where almost everyone can eventually afford them. Nobody cares that it's making people enormously obese and out of shape. It's getting hard to tell if those are people on the beach in the Summer, or whales who beached themselves. In 1984 in America (I'm talking the USA, not South America), about 1% of people were overweight. Now it's 95%. Just look at pictures and video of then vs. now. That's the BIGGEST difference between 1984 and now. The next biggest difference is the quality of 95% workers is absolutely HORRIBLE now. No matter where I go these days, employees who are supposed to represent the company they work for are RUDE and know absolutely NOTHING about their jobs because companies don't want to pay qualified people and they don't train them. The new employees learn from a co-worker, who also knows nothing and doesn't get paid enough to care.

In the 80s you could get a job on the way home from another job. It's night and day. Inflation was way lower too. All industry went automated or to places where there's no human rights

Damn stuff were cheap back then even if you got paid 3.00/hr that would be 480/month so was possible like when they say you need to work "hard" I mean working extra hours or having a side job you could save up to buy a house and a car but now you need 2 jobs at least depending where you live just to eat and survive lol
