@Skip ads depending what your goal is. You think Dio would’ve performed better if he played racquetball before every show? Maybe you prefer straight edge performers? Tea-totalers only!
But honestly...and I looooove Ronie.....and I miss Ronnie.... How much better he would have been if he would have taking care abound his voice, voice system and cared about? No doubt, studio #1 Rock n Metal ever! ...but I`ve problems with his live performances! Ozzy was better in the competiones, his studio voice bringing his studio voice live again! sorry, my optinion! Ronnie underated Ronnie live! AND! I really do loooove him! I miss him hardly!
I also saw Elf open for Purple, I thought who is this Tiny Tim looking dude with enormous voice. That was the Stormbringer tour, of the perhaps 15 times that was "the WORST" Blackmore ever was playing from offstage half the time, talking to some girls in chairs right offstage. I knew it was over. He was just so not into it. The ti.e before being CalJam and he clearly was making the statement this IS the best band in the world.
One thing I always find endearing about Lars is his genuine love and fanaticism of heavy metal. Metal was fairly new at the time. As a kid he was one of those super fans that knows everything about all the bands, even obscure underground bands, at an age where most kids were still playing with toys and shit.
@@whataboutthesituation1273 Based off your comment alone, I’m going to guess you’re not a musician and probably under the age of 20. Maybe even under 18.
Ronnie was the reason why i got into metal as a kid..then learned guitar, then joined bands, then made a career as a guitarist which I'm still doing 30 years later.. I love Ronnie..He and Bruce Dickinson....wow.
I wrote a song about Bruce Dickinson's huge bulging crotch coming around the corner before he does. "First it peeks around the corner... then he steps into the ROOOOM!"
Damn, this is COOL as _SHIT!_ The part with Lars, Ian and Mustaine setting aside any and all differences they may or may not have and coming together to discuss one of the greatest metal vocalists to have ever lived. This is _how things should be._ Metal on... \m/
@Daryal but they should have. They had the biggest impact as well as the other bands. Sure bands like Exodus, and Testament definitely helped as well, but anthrax did more
He was generous, kind, and he deeply cared about his fans. He was easy to be around because he genuinely cared about others. He cut through the ego trips of being a famous singer and was a humble human with a caring heart.
Im proud that my country honored Ronnie James Dio by making a statue of him, the only one in the world. And now we made one for John Lawton, big friend of Bulgaria, located on Kamen coast, where we meet July morning.
I am lucky! I met him! I was 17, delivering pizzas to Alpine Valley back stage! He shuck my hand, thanked me for my work, and gave me $150.00 Bucks for a tip! In 1984, at 17, that was huge! R.I.P. and thank you for your character! Love ya! You drove me to learn to play, and I did for 25 years! No regrets! Lived it loved it would do it all over! Thank you Ronny!
I go to a black Sabbath concert I believe it was June 1980 Ronnie James dio was singing earlear in the show I was at the beer booth when up walks this little man it was dio he was the best he even took pictures with us .. awesome man RIP Ronnie james
To me it doesn't matter whether you like these guys, it's about the legend that was Dio and the fact is that they all liked him and that means something to me. The guy was an absolute legend, on icon
None of these stories surprise me in the least. Growing-up becoming a fan of his musical and songwriting genius, and listening to him in interviews, I could hear for myself what a class act he was. RIP RJD 🤘🎤
In 1985 on the Sacred heart tour in Quebec city i sold 3 grams and a half of hashish to the band the invited me to go smoke in the buss with them :) so i did ! I was smoking 1 with Vinny Apace and Jimmy Bain and all of a sudden Dio came into the buss and i started crying and he huged me :) :) I was stoned like hell but i remember all of it :)
Cool memory. I was able to have front row in Boston his second to last show, I shot the first hour of video (check youtube Boston heaven and hell)...after the show he leaned over to shake hands, I asked him for a guitar pick...he says " Sorry, I don't play guitar"....no bullshit guy. The perfect voice for heavy music.
I was blessed. In Australia, I'd met Ronnie after a Rainbow gig in late 76, then interviewed him in late 80. We bonded. We were fellow travellers, but HE saw it long before I did. Every time we met after that, I was made to feel like family. I was nobody, just a fan following my passion for music. During a visit to LA in March 84, I spent a couple of evenings with him at Sound City (pre-production rehearsals) & then after a Sydney show in 86. We spoke about trivial stuff, but we also got deep. He would always engage you on your common ground... never made you feel other than his equal & his friend. Visiting LA in May 87 hoping to touch base, his office told me he was busy mixing his new album. So much for that, I thought. Later that day, I get a message at my hotel from someone I'd not heard of, inviting me to the Record Plant. I get there not knowing what to expect. The second head to emerge from the control room was Ronnie himself & gestured for me to enter. I spent most of the next week in that control room watching, listening & learning from the master. At the end of each session, he would re-invite me to the next day's session. During a break one evening, he said, "I suppose you're wondering why I keep asking you back." I told him the thought had occurred but I'd said nothing because I didn't want to break the mojo. "The reason is that you're a professional & you understand that this is our profession & you really appreciate the opportunity... you don't over-talk or distract us, you don't spill your drink on the console...". I said how could I not treat the opportunity like gold... who could do otherwise? "You'd be surprised", he said. Respect was everything to Ronnie and he loved sharing his life with people who understood that. The last time we saw each other was in NZ in 2007, after a H+H gig where he kicked the ass of every 30-year-old in the room. The big hug, then Ronnie filling me in on what my friend in Brisbane had been up to & how he loved meeting my friend's family in Oz the night before. Then we got deep. It had been 20 years & was as if no time had passed. I still have his music & these extraordinary memories, but I've lost that part of myself that I left in his care.
Dio and Maiden kicks azz. When I first met Him and he, seemingly, wouldn't let go of my hand shake and depth of himself. I thank him for the tunes that made playing worth it and my son and I miss him much. Peace friend..
Dio will always be my favorite of all time. A huge part of me died in 2010 when we lost him. But I know that he had to go down to make the devil cry. :(
Hell yeah! Dio, with Megadeth and Rough Cutt! Great show! Sacred Heart tour 1985 at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Big black bus with Lost in the destination window. The sound check dude played Perfect Strangers and you could feel those pipe organ riffs through the soles of your feet.
I can't believe you guys. These musicians are paying respect for Dio, and what do you do? You bitch about Lars, Kerry and Dave. How disrespectful is that? They are paying respect to someone who is dead. Shame on you!
Back in the 80's I took a chance to see Ronnie in El Paso Texas and the show was sold out!! Couldn't get a ticket even from a scalper, was bummed but my friends went in and I listened to the concert outside! His voice pierced through the building like I was inside the arena. Like he knew I couldn't get inside and he sang louder so I could enjoy the concert! That was my thought. His voice was so powerful like nothing I had heard before, well maybe Rob Halford of Judas Priest! Ronnie was and will always be one of the best singers of my era hands down!! Always thought he was English but turns out he was from Bedford New Hampshire of all places! I used to live in New Hampshire, Bedford is a very small town. Good to see a small town boy make a huge name for himself, the world misses you Ronnie, you will always be remembered for your contributions in music!
Love Lars! He seems so genuine when he talks and there is no denying of the inspiration he says to have had from Ronnie when RJD was in Rainbow! On the Tour of Metallica "Load" 1997 The whole Rainbow Rising Album was being played Loud through the speakers 🔊 During the stage preparation in all Arenas accross the nation!🤘
Wow, Kerry, thanks for that great Dio story! I can totally feel how important he was to you by the passion you displayed. It almost brought me to tears... >SNIF
I saw Dio on that 1990 tour with Metallica in Germany where I was stationed at the time, it was a great show. I also saw that 1987 tour with Megadeth in Sacramento, of course Ronnie killed it that night as well. The man never had an off night when I saw him, 5 times total, always seemed to have an affair with the crowd and his fans. 🤘
Rock on love listening to the stories. He sounded like a great man. God bless him. I have grown up listening to that awesome rock voice . I have learned a lot from watching DIO 😁🙏🏻🤘🏻✌🏻
I think he's buried the hatchet more with Lars than James. I believe Dave wants a reunion of some kind with them, but James has said that won't happen.
*Pfffff ... kicking Dave from Metallica was a good thing to happen. Now we have TWO kick-ass bands instead of just the one. So really, everybody calm their titts and be happy about shit going down. ESPECIALLY all the members of Metallica and Megadeath.
Saw Megadeth open for Dio in 1987. I was also at Sunday #1 at Folsom field in Boulder while Dio played but my drunk Girlfriend was in the first aid station and wouldn't let me get 10 feet away from her to go see Dio. So technically I only saw him once, heard him live twice lol
I'll never forget hearing Dio first sing with Rainbow and just thought "wow-this guy has a HUGE voice" back in late 70s..... when Sabbath got him I thought "this will be good" & that Heaven and Hell album is still one of my favorites.......
I saw this in the theater here in victoria tx. Ive never gave a standing ovation in a screen room in my life. When they played the RIP i stood and clapped for at least a minute....... So did everyone else in that room, Even in death dio still has the crowd going
I was really hoping that i would see HH again that day. But just a week or two before the concert he died. I saw him in Austria a few years before that. I can't believe 12 years have already passed.
I've smoked a joint and hour before it was time to play on stage and I was so calm that I was playing solos super clean. My hands felt so light and relaxed. Can't wait to cover man on the silver mountain! RIP DIO!!!! \m/
My first concert....Halloween night 1985, Dio at the Worcester Centrum. Absolutely amazing cast of characters/fans at that show...wish I could do it all over again!
I don't understand how all these religious assholes were giving Ronnie shit about being a devil worshiper and glorifying Satan. I mean did they even listen to the fucking lyrics? All of his songs, even with Sabbath, he is clearly stating to beware of the dark side, that there are dire consequences for dabbling in black magic and all of that shit. "The devil is never a maker, the less that you give, you're a taker." He never once praised Satan or endorsed darkness and evil. People are so fucking stupid, it's just tragic. And the horn symbol is from his old Italian grandmother, who was raised in the old country. That sign was to ward off the evil eye and turn dark energy back against the sender.
@@blaineedwards8078 I think it was fear and imagery. You have to admit, some of his album logos were scary for the day. But, like you said, if you listened to his lyrics, you could see he was the exact opposite of a devil worshiper. Back then though, there was hardly anyway to get the truth and people wanted to ruin what they didn't understand or feared.
Dio always said hate was a neccesity to the human cancer, like eating and sleeping. Well here it is. People cant even respect artists who respect each other. The apathy and moral decay of this world is astonishing. This video is supposed to be about Dio, but idiots always turn it into a Metallica sucks blog. So sad what the human conditioning has become. All these artists are still better than all the crap on the radio.
Any great vocalist tells you to stay away from alcohol and smoking. That's amazing that he drank a beer and smoked half a joint and could belt out with the best of em
You said it...Half a joint and a beer! He didn't abused it and that's when it becomes a problem and plus he was gifted and blessed as a child with an extraordinary voice! He was for the most part a straight guy in the R&R business if you compare it to the life of R&R musicians or the life of any in the music business. Now let's be fair!🤣
This is why I like Lars over the other Metallica members. He still reaches out to people. If James had heard that Dave would be there he would have just said " fuck that!"
Very sad. They all had good things to say, but I liked Mustaine's story about the joint. (Look at Lars right after that story, it almost made him cry.).......Truly tragic, but we remember him in music and respect him!
Kerry King comes off looking a bit like a jerk during these times of things. However, I think it's more down to personal philosophy than anything else. I guess you could say that Kerry doesn't believe in dishonoring the dead by sulking, preferring to remember them when they were full of life. He did the same when Jeff died. Kerry has always managed to rub a lot of people the wrong way. To be honest, I wouldn't be very happy if people stopped living their lives after I go. Have a drink, have a few puffs then go on and do what you have to do in life, while you are alive.
Guys, I don't think that's all Kerry King had to say about Dio, it's just the story of how they met, pretty sure he said other things to remember him, but was cut off. So if you wanna be mad at someone, be mad at the editor.
