I attended an American Psychiatric Association convention in Miami in 1976. There were 2 keynote speakers. The first was a neurologist from Oregon who presented evidence that ECT (shock treatment) caused permanent brain damage. The second speaker proudly bragged he administered over 3000 ECT treatments per year. I was lucky to get to the podium to ask why 80% of all ECT was given to women. His response was something like, "we exercise restraint with men because they must return to work on Mondays whereas women usually have to only remember where the pots and pans are..." A good friend of mine subsequently denounced that doctor on a radio show and was sued for defamation. Fortunately, my friend won the suit and now works full-time exposing psychiatric crimes.

My son was schizophrenic. He refused antipsychotics.so his Dr prescribed electric shock therapy instead. He killed himself within 2 months.

When I was very young I was by myself in a difficult situation. I was very depressed and I went to the doctor. He never asked a question about my living circumstances but he did hand me a prescription for an antidepressant. I got more help from a group of waitresses who befriended me. When discussing education they all told me they quit school after grade ten because school was just too hard. But they were the wisest kindest people I had ever met and they raised me out of my despair by simply understanding my situation and encouraging me.

Thank you for speaking out, I was a victim for years when first migrating to Australia having 3 young children to look after, I was healed supernaturally God is merciful . All I needed was someone to listen to me as I bottled all hurts . My prayers are now for those who are depressed.

'The whole industry of psychiatry needs to stop'. Couldn't agree with you more. It is an industry not a profession. Giving vulnerable people, like those with learning disabilities, drugs which are extremely harmful is rampant, and, in my opinion, criminal.

It is not disability of us but those who research on schizophrenia they are failures, maybe this disorder lies in what civilized say mumbo jumbo a witchcraft maybe there is substance in it necessarily not in present life but in previous lives he was affected by lethal devil worshippers and genetically he was born again n again with affliction having never been cured maybe that craft poisoned his blood or something negative in brain.Medivine is necessary and study of all topics without putting aside when in all these yrs when the cause is not know .

I was medicated for depression panic disorder and adhd for 15 years. I was fainting put on weight and got a terrible skin condition. i took myself off all of them after leaving a relationship that the psychiatrist never asked me about. I am fine. Yes I have had emotional struggles and have identified “what happened to me” I worked in mental health for 30 years what I saw I would like to write about as I have seen what happened to me be done to so many. I was scapegoated in the system for having my understanding of developmental trauma. Psychiatry is a huge money making system where people die young from so many drugs being given to them over so many years .

I remember reading a pamphlet on mental health in Boots pharmacy in Britain, some 25 years ago; it said that ‘you may be offered a treatment called ECT, which is harmless’ - I did not think the risks were fatal to 1 in 1000.

I think you're a bit too hard on the good Dr. It's a bit like asking a plumet to fix your fuse board. You need a good functional medical to sort your issues. A water fast might be a good place to start. Proper allergy food testing is definitely a place to start. And that is for most mental issues.

I really appreciate what this doctor has to say. An economic perspective is that a lot of depression and some similar disorders has to do with spending large amounts of our time in environments (workplaces) that don't value about our wellbeing and are really just exploiting us, we are treated as expendable. An example is how Amazon warehouse workers are worked very hard and often get injured on the job, and the "solution" is to have free NSAIDS available. The point about industry profiteering is central to understanding why current psychiatric care is what it is. There is an important distinction to make though regarding "chemical imbalances"..this can refer to the idea that people with mental illness need to take a certain drug to "fix" the chemistry in their brain, and I agree that this is fundamentally incorrect and harmful in many cases, but there is a way in which it has truth to it. This is the growing evidence that many "psychiatric" conditions are psychological or behavioral symptoms of underlying physical disease processes or disorders. Low potassium levels can cause psychotic symptoms including delusions and hallucinations, panic attacks are exaggerated lactic acid response to alkalosis, schizophrenia can be the result of an auto-immune reaction triggered by gluten (estimated to be between 10 and 30%), and many cases of mental illness including bipolar and schizophrenia are caused by issues in brain metabolism that can be corrected by a ketogenic diet. There are also many cases of schizophrenia that are permanently resolved with good quality psychodynamic therapy as well. It seems that the psych med solution is the one that just doesn't work well.

I don't know how many people who know anyone who has been subjected to electric shocks, but I met some one with brain damage to an area of his brain since birth, such that he was unable to tell the difference between bank notes, or differentiate between letters. He was verbally very articulate, but completely at odds with society so he was institutionalised from childhood. He told me he was forcibly subjected to electric shocks to the point where he lost his memory. He was given debilitating drugs he did not want that damaged his liver and he was on medication for the damage the 'psychiatric' drugs did to him. In was in the process of engaging a solicitor to sue them at the time I spoke to him. At college I was given the algorithm that appears on the emblem for the royal college of psychiatry. I was also told at induction the whole thing consist of "just ideas". Iwas doing pre degree social sciences at the time and psychiatry is supposed to be one of them. I found out from the evaluations i was expected to conclude 50- 50 on viability as to psychiatric perspective V environmentalist perspective, but I could not honestly do so. I read about 'chemical imbalances' in a 1920's book written by a doctor. I did not agree with it because glandular secretions are variable and not known at any point in time. I suspect it is how the narrator says. It is money that controls the decisions. Changing the physical and psychological environment cost money that is spent on the victim, and it would be hugely expensive. Banging some one up in a hospital and labbelling them with what academics call psychobabble is cheaper.

Yes, absolutely true, I am a medical person and worked in psychiatry for a few months and most of the treatments seemed baseless moreover just couldn't get any answers so left it alhamdulillah,, totally agree for it to be handed over to physicians and wise psycho therapists.

"Psychosis pills knock you down." That is absolut correct. I remember my aunt was always like absent when I was a child. She showed almost no emotions and talked very little. After her psychosis pills were not allowed anymore, she came alive again, but she was psyched and she sadly took her life short after this, because she couldn't stand it any more. She died almost 30 years ago. RIP.

For a positive note . At 60 I was diagnosed as bipolarité 2 . I take Lithium and find it helps a lot . But I also sold m'y house ie lots of money in bank as opposed to zéro , awarded handicap benefits 970 euros monthly , health insurance full cover , lovely appartement subsidised 8 euros a month . I bought a good small car , about to get little poodle . So what came first thé chicken or thé egg . Now I have full support rather than none its no wonder Im well now . I reduced lithium to 400 g rather than 800g prescribed by thé psychiatrist and swelling in m'y ankles dissapeared immediately . I wouldnt stop because Im sure I feel more stable rather than roller coaster states . They gave me two other drugs that causes wieght gain zombie state difficulty in speaking plus haïr loss . I stopped those . Compared to thé average person I know a lot about psychiatry and nurses etc do not liké thé fact that one is informéd . Never challenge them head on they just close ranks to crush you .

Смотрела интерьвью режиссера Ларса фон Триера, у него очень тряслись руки, это побочное действие от лекарств от депрессии, может быть и дисбаланс в гормонах, набор веса. С другой стороны людям с тяжелыми случаями шизофрении нужны лекарства, иначе они могут стать недееспособными.

I was raised as a white minority in the Amazon jungle. I was cursed at and laughed at as a kid when I walked alone on the street. I survived too. I was also schizophrenic several years and it’s okay that people make fun of my mind. I can see why I resemble those remarks. I’m actually very bright sometimes and it’s not reoccurring schizophrenia. The speed of light C isn’t constant since the measures of time and distance aren’t constant over larger distances. Changing from 60 kilometers an hour to 60 miles an hour increases your speed. Then if you go from 60 miles an hour to 60 miles a minute it increases your speed again. This is what is happening in general relativity when less gravity increases the measure of distance and speeds up the rate of time over large distances. It also means that the earth is younger than what they claim. The universe doesn’t care how young the earth is, actually.

I wish this would become commonly known, but people gravitate to the easy fix. Which is why it’s so easily become the only fix. As a person who crawled out of a miserable “way of life” and grappled with all the facets of such, I feel confident when I say that the medication only created new issues, and did nothing to solve the real issues that only I could solve. We want to escape our problems. But there is no escape. There is just one moment and then the next to try again. ❤

Questions for Peter: Do you not believe it's a chemical imbalance if someone's neurotransmitters are severely in decline? Or could you please define how you're using chemical imbalance the way it is typically used in Psychiatry? And what about a deficiency in vitamin D? Do they not call for some kind of amino acids or other internal vitamin intervention? Or do you believe that they can be reversed simply by changing one's lifestyle and behaviors? Is there a way to check how damaged one's brain is from traumatic experiences or is it the same recommendation whether verified testing or not? And what wld be your recommendation to get over trauma from early childhood? Can you explain why some people have auto-immune or why I've had a lifetime of low immunity? Can a short course (2 days) of anti-psychotics for delerium after surgery do long-term damage? Thank you!

Something separates those who, allegedly, suffer from trauma or anxiety and later develop psychosis, from those having experienced the same, but never develop psychosis. A bigger, or more common, problem, I believe, is the general spread of anxious disorders and the lack of dealing with anxiety. Anxiety needn't be an enemy; from an evolutionary perspective, anxiety can improve survival - if it's illicited by danger, as long as it's conducive to adaptive behaviour. It's a signal to change. In a runaway liberal, secular society, can itself explain many individual's lack of purpose? Anxiety and freedom / choice are connected, didn't Kierkegaard say that?

My life was very fullfilling, I got an anxiety depression out of nowhere... The only thing was that I worried a lot my whole life, went into meno pause and had a bad diet for a time when I took care of a friend with cancer and used antibiotics...

Like what he saying is once you start these antipsychotics antidepressants, anticonvulsants anti-anxiety medication’s. It’s the same like doing what you hear from people with alcohol isn’t where the body can’t live without it when you take it away cold turkey there’s a high chance of death or with people it stops her body from producing their natural opioids and other chemicals like dopamine. I learned the hard way from marijuana because I was trying to use it for the pain. I was going through my divorce so now after quitting, I’m suffering and I have to hope that my chemical ranges come back to normal levels, my divorce just compounded and added what he’s talking about Reshon from an external thing and all of my issues were caused externally

Probably lack of adequate skin contact & bonding as an infant, which is a major form of sensory deprivation, which is known to produce hallucinations etc.

There are 3 dimensions of depression. First: silent inflammation due to gut microbiome, immune system, lack of nutrients, minerals and vitamines. Second: loss of beloved ones, job, etc mourning, sadness and loneliness. Third: spiritual component. Your soul isn't allowed to live it needs. Par example: you have to take over the factory of your parents but you would rather be a musician.

The more research i do into this the more i believe that many of the mental illness diagnoses should be diagnosed as inflammation. The brain can get inflamed just as other organs can, and highly processed foods and sugars are the culprit. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who have cured their depression and anxiety and yes, even schizophrenia by eliminating processed foods and sugars and switching to a keto or carnivore diet.

Pills save me. Yes, it took a while until they found the right medicine for me: Or rather: until I found a good psychiatrist. He described my thoughts exactly in detail. I couldn't work at all, function. I was on sick leave for 2 years.

In the state of psychosis, the psyche returns to the level of trauma. Psychosis can be dangerous, but the frequent and too rapid elimination of psychosis with drugs can prevent the natural process of trauma processing and thus healing.

I have seen first hand, on a rotation, a patient feel better as the treatments of ECT were given. To use the analogy you give about insulin, too much is like too little! It is better now cause there are more precautions done around a patient getting ECT. We also do not privilege it as first treatment but if the anti-depressives don't work adequatly in refractory depression. There is a new treatment now that you put a "pacemaker" on the vagal nerve and has given good results for people with depression and with Parkinsons disease. We are electrical beings. Our brains can light a lightbulb with the neurons activity! Sometimes a "reboot" is necessary and medicine is trial and error and it is an art! We have not perfected medicine to the point of personalizing treatment options per person but are working on DNA specific cancer treatments, for example. I'd agree that most conventional medicine is corrupted though cause money does corrupt!

I once heard this poor soul who said the psychiatrist prescribed medication to treat the bipolar disorder..Little this individual had not been known it was the framing tactics..After several weeks of taking the medication, this individual had all symptoms that were never had before such as insomnia, hands trembling uncontrollable, lost of appetite and even more anxious..The stupid psychiatrist double the dosage of the drugs due to the symptoms..This individual COULDN'T say much because everyone around said the same thing..After looking up the physician references medication dictionaries, all the symptoms were adverse reactions of the drugs..This individual quietly stopped taking the medication..It took 3 months for this individual to be normal again..This is a true story of how physicians can drug and brainwashed patients into believing disorders they NEVER have in the first place especially if the collaborators were closely related to the physicians themselves..Period..

40 years ago I was morbidly depressed because I was going through a divorce. I was put on all kinds of pharmacological crap. They had me half convinced that there was something wrong with me. I was going through a divorce! I was on a medication merry-go-round for about five years, and I finally said enough is enough I’m not taking this shit for another day. They told me I couldn’t do that, but I did and I’ve been fine for years. People aren’t depressed because of a chemical imbalance, people are depressed because they live depressing lives. Amen to that. Best thing I’ve ever heard.

I was treated the same after a terrible death for my Dad. 5 years of sending me nuts before I realised they were turning me into the very "crazy" they said I was. I almost landed in the nut farm. Thankfully I walked away "noncompliant" they called me. I got better within weeks.
