This is it! The move of the Infinity IRSV from PS Audio's Music Room One to its new home across the street in PS Audio's Music Room Two. Watch as we move 1.2 tons of loudspeaker across the street
It was nice of you to share the move. It is this type of video that includes your customer base and expands goodwill to those who cannot possibly own such outstanding speakers, but still, like to feel a part of the process. To me, the local stereo stores, which we no longer have, there was a feeling of belonging to a group of those with similar interests -- not exactly like a sorority or a club, but still feeling exclusive with your presence not only welcomed but welcomed and desired.
What a great video. Thanks for sharing, Paul and team. Great to have real music lovers working together to derive a musical system that would be a challenge to many. I owned these speakers for a while and must say that it was incredibly easy o pick out small details and component differences. Congratulations on the new space and room.
Amazing) drive of life, so hard to find passion of the life.. The most fulllfilled and inspiring time of your life, Paul and all the best all your family. I enjoyed))
such an interesting video !!!Now I know how those speakers really look like. I wish I was working for you. I thought I was the only one that guess (sometimes) on how to do something, like when you were putting the Infinity IRSV together again. I loved this video. Thank you for sharing
Those guys did a great job IMO. I hope you bought them pizza, and beer afterwards. 😊 Good luck in the new building Paul. I think Arnie would be very proud. Happy Holidays!
first time ive heard the speakers.you can tell just by listening via utube and desktop speakers that it sounds fantastic.i can image being in there would be a great experience.thanks for letting us hear paul.been waiting to hear them for months and a lot of your vids. thanks
Thanks for the vid. A truly great system. I’ve got fond memories of listening in awe to Genesis Is driven by Jadis 200/JP 80/XLO/Wadia 7 & 9 in a 80sqms room. I actually owned Gen II.5s with a similar set-up. I’ve now downsized to Regnar-modded Dahlquist DQ10s. 😎
You are AWESOME !! I am going to make an exclusive trip just to seat in that seat and hopefully buy something. I already have some but I will be very tempted to buy more. I love your videos.
That's nice to have that crew to move those and the forklift. They made short work of it. The original IRS came with a cradle that you put together to assemble and disassemble the panels, I have never see one. Where is Bob on the the new servo set up for the IRS woofers? I'm surprised you are still running monster cable on the EMIMS. If the power cords make such a difference than you would think the signal wire going to the EMIMS should have some attention too. Congratulations on the the new setup across the street and the success of PS Audio!! I love my DirectStreem DACs!! Thanks again for the videos.
The last video and this intro gave me literal chills. This is the end to music room 1 but it's a shedding process, and everything comes to an end, just to be recycled into something greater. Rest in Peace, Mr. Nudell.
Several of you have asked about the glorious piece of music being played here. I asked Paul in an email and he replied with this: www.amazon.com/Mahler-Symphony-Francisco-Michael-Michelle/dp/B00GG3O6JG/ I think that’s the same Hybrid SACD as this: Mahler: Symphony No.3, Kindertotenlieder www.amazon.com/dp/B004RUF02M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gzM9CbHCZCTE7
It's always good to have young muscle around to do most of the heavy lifting. My fist job after getting out of the army back in 1970 was at Analog Devices in Cambridge, we were in a fair sized two story building that was bursting at the seams. i was hired as an engineering tech, I was told we would be moving ito yje building across the lot In a week. Across the parking lot was an old mill building (still had the round ports in the ends where the long axle that was driven by water power used to be) this building was going to be the new home for engineering and test. The movers would handle all the benches, desks and cabinets but the engineers and techs would move all the test equipment. Carrying a Textronix 545 scope down two flights of stairs and across that lot was not an easy job - thanfully the new lab space was on the first floor. I could sit at my bench and imagine the old shaft running 15 feet above my head with bolts coming off it to run the machinery down on the shop floor. I'm glad you got the new music room set up and I'm sure you will have it tweaked in soon.
Two tall groups of green bamboo stalks to the left and right of the towers (not covering the bass towers) would IMO provide an aesthetically pleasing camouflage to cover the mini split and still allow the air to circulate. The group on the left would be for visual and acoustic symmetry, since it wouldn't be hiding anything. Just a thought.
Sounds awesome even with the limitations of RU-vid playback! Wouldn't a larger room be beneficial, allowing a bit more space between the two monsters? ..and also, if the 'live' room is a problem, some very large wall paintings on canvas will definitely solve that. Congratulations on a job well done by all!
fantastic video, i liked watching the process and see how the speakers are put together etc and my daughter sat here laughing at all the people going really fast lol!
It's Mahler no. 3 in D minor. Not sure what album. Google says Eza-Pekka Salonen with the LA Philharmonic, Sony records. Although there's a good one on tidal also (DECCA) tidal.com/track/5674026
Thanks for sharing, it's very nice to see those speakers being dismantled I really thought it's a big one piece wood panel. Those corners of the room are they plain walls or is there some bass traps hidden behind?
The rooms been treated and I'm sure it will be updated. The previous room was also treated and if you look at that, you will see treatment in both corners of that as well.
I have to ask something, given the woofers are behind the twitter towers, and the emt are open at the back, doesn't the air from woofers affect the the emt making then distort a little?
One question: the first Woofer Tower went across the street via forklift, but the second Woofer Tower went across the street via truck. Why? Forklifts have little suspension, so I am hoping that there was no damage on that first trip.
Great job! So with woofer tower #1 you went forklift all the way, while for the second one you brought in the truck? Pretty funny how you had to figure out the orientation of the wings and bases. I guess with hindsight, it would have made sense to mark each piece for position and orientation during disassembly.
We did the first woofer tower with the forklift then, on the second one, there was a furniture moving truck in the parking lot and we gave the driver $20 to drive the speakers across the street. Made it easier.
Paul, Had a question on speakers since obviously their not in production anymore. Do you have lots of spare tweeters, midrange and servo woofer driver? Maybe from arnie's stash of parts? I saw some of stuff from arnie's estate being sold on ebay by a online boulder company (the audio room) that sells all sorts of high end gear. Who specifically repairs and reconditions these if no spares are available? I thought it interesting for a speaker made in such low number and from the mid 80's. Thanks again Paul for everything you do!
See, now I thought those were one piece units and was wondering what crane and what world army you were going to use to move them. Now I see how it was done. Paul, by the way, to fix the room issue, a little bit (and I mean a little) of room treatment will take you far. :) The good folks at GIK would be a good phone call to make. Not shilling for them, but I have used them and they are smart and don't sell you what you do not need.
Yes. Now that I've seen them with their pants down I can make me a pair.:D Honestly If there was a Chinese knock off of these (there probably is) they would sound orders of magnitude better that anything I could make.
Having watched the "last song in music room one" video, assuming the recording gear was the same and having been myself through all this "sound character" thing that different room settings and treatments impart to the sound, I'd say that this room has a lot more reverb that gives the impression of a bigger space, clearer highs, more impressive sound. Yet, carefull A/B comparison with the old room sound, shows that the old room setting/refinement, was more true to the recording itself. Individual sounds are better defined tonally, temporally and spatially. The sound in the old room had a slightly more prominent "it's not real, just a recording" feeling, which is simply...the truth! I think the impression that the highs are better in the new room is just an effect that goes together with the more distant ("spacious") image, as a result of an overall different tonal balance. It has happened to me before as a choice between "distant, spacious, sharply imaged" or "immediate, lively, but less hi-fiishly impressive". The system delivers a glorious performance anyway, but I believe you and your team will make some fine tuning before deciding what's best. EXCELLENT VIDEOS PAUL! AND THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR SHARING WITH US, LESS FORTUNATE AUDIOPHILES!!
Sounds great on my Sony MDR XB950 headphones. If it sounds live there, fantastic job and well done. I have an older Samsung 4K UHDTV with Bluetooth sent to Dayton Audio 120 as signal amp. Thanks.
Actually.... KLOS.....Too Hipp KMET.....Whoo Yaa Los Angeles mega rock stations' Icon sayings back when the glory days of hard American rock reined in the Southern California region.
Awesome!! Hope I get chance to experience it in person. Quick question Paul. I notice that you don’t use many room treatments (except for diffuser behind speakers) like bass traps and diffusers/absorbers to the side and above. Any reason why?
it will sound even better when all the cables in walls get burned in. Please tell me did you hear any difference in sound with that air condition on and off? thank you.
Yes, you're right on both accounts. I was told not to put the mini split there but wanted it away from the listening position. Dumb move on my part. Ugh.
@@Paulmcgowanpsaudio here is an article about your mini-split problem. www.proremodeler.com/5-ways-hide-mini-split. The article also mentions the reasons not to hang around eletronics.
As it’s a new build why not call it Music Room A, then you also have B,C,D... and you can then reference back to the old building as “1”, “2”... and we’d all know what you meant.
Hello. It sounds like music room 2 has some echo. The room should have something on the wall to the ceiling to take away the echo. Is not that a common thing to do specifically in a listening room?
I, or any of the other regular viewers, can easily answer that question for you sir. Yes you absolutely can. All are invited to come by for a listen. And it's definitely on my bucket list. I'm thinking of doing a whole week out there. Go to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver, then stay for the rest of the week in Colorado. And of course go to Boulder after the Fest. I'm not going without making sure Paul will be there when I do though. Even if I only get to just meet him. I would be happy. Such an interesting guy. I'm hoping for 2020, but maybe this coming year, if things go right. They never do though. So 2021 probably. 😂😂😂
For the sake of clarity please call the primary listening room in the new building Listening Room One. It's where the #1 system is played, everybody gets that. If you have a master bedroom and then move to a new house, do you now call it master bedroom two?
I thought the mid-high frequency columns were enclosed boxes. Also, bass frequencies fall faster, so why are the low end drivers situated behind the mid/high towers? The designer is either a genius or completely insane.
Nice video! Had a laugh though when putting the speakers together. Seems none of the parts were marked or tagged before removal. Should have made the reassembly a bit easier, but less entertaining for us viewers. Keep up the good work!
In case you wondered why the average audiophile does not own a pair of these speakers... By the way, although I am sure your PS Audio throw rug sounds very nice, an official Infinity throw rug would improve the sound significantly!
Not trying to be mean, but after having participated in literally hundreds of AV tradeshows, if I never hear Pink Floyd and the Eagles again for as long as I live, I couldn't be happier! LoL 😁 In fact, at the last show, someone at another vendor booth started playing Hotel California during set-up, and there was literally a loud groan of despair from the rest of the vendors! 😬
The wall is a better recording for demo purposes than the previous albums, several (Animals, Wish You Were Here & DSOTM) of which are a tad lacking in bass for my taste.
A work colleague came to my desk and asked me why am I looking at a video with some dudes moving a coffin. He still doesn't believe me that those are speakers :D
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this system sounds awesome but seeing the main speakers taken apart reveals that that they are really only slim line source speakers with huge, opaque side wings backed up with mighty servo subs. Presumably the sidewings are to smooth dispersion but their bulk must be visually and psychologically intrusive into the image . The most convincing systems I have heard have wide spread, small speakers in a nearfield arrangement and a clear floor in front of the listener in which the image can develop. I wonder what the speakers would sound like with no wings or to at least make the wings seethrough by using glass or acrylic ? Not meaning to downplay an awesome system, but this thought just occurred to me.
Yes sir, its basically 6 complete stereos in one. But then its only original main intention in the beginning was a tool for audio equipment development. For me, the real legacy of this design will be when they are practical as a couple of stereo speakers the wife might allow in the house.
