The betrayal in Mafia broke me. It was the first game I'd actually invested my time into and getting immersed. But to see my favourite character betray the main character, it tore me.
@@jimbeam3081 No he wasn't, Salieri was the rat, always has been. He literally ordered Tommy to kill Frank, his childhood friend for "ratting" them out, knowing that Frank's actual family was actually threatened. But he doesn't care about neither of those. He never cared about ANYONE, not even Sam.
People here saying Micah's Betrayal should be here. Nah. The moment that should be here is the moment when Dutch walked away from Arthur while he was about to be stabbed by that guard. That one hurt
@@dingaling-e3z Arthur was with him for twenty years, they were like father and son. Arthur has always been loyal to him. Why would Dutch just leave him to die like he meant nothing to him? Dutch might not see it that way because he is delusional though, but he did betray Arthur in reality. But he didn't know it at the same time, he thought he was doing right by his code. I may be wrong, but Dutch is a really complex character so it's really hard to understand what he is.
@@Wintercomet100 It became clear that Shepherd betrayed them. It was more logical that he grabbed his arm with the last amount of his strength to stop Shepherd. I think holding Shep's arm was in character for a soldier to struggle till the end.
@@md.mazedulhaquerefat8585 Pretty sure that if Roach could have, he'd have probably tried to have gone for his side arm and shot Shepherd himself at that point, even though Shepherd's men would have stopped him (and of course, dev's story plot too).
@@anactualalpaca7016 it is said that his head injury after the bank robbery in Saint Denis caused this indirectly as something like that can change you
@@anactualalpaca7016 You can't blame Dutch Micah was playing with his head and whispered lies in his ears to think that Arthur wants to take his place and Arthur will betray him and snitch to the Pinkertons and then he will lead the gang Dutch loved arthur that why in the end dutch shot michea he loved the gang and mostly Arthur and john They bote were loyal but he was deceived by the snake Just like eve she was played by the snake to eat the apple
Shepherd: "Got the DSM?" Ghost- "Got it Sir!" Shepherd: "Good, thats one less loose end." Ghost- " NO!" The last thing Ghost said makes me cry every time I hear him say it.
Agree. It could've easily replace either Rise of Tomb Raider of MK11, since the former comes from a character that only appeared in one scene prior to betrayal and players never got the time to give a shit about her, while the latter comes at the expense of horrible character assassination of a beloved by many fans character.
@@Ziomaletto they literally said over and over throughout the story that Shang Tsung would betray them at some point lmao everyone knew it was coming, we just didnt know when or how
@@AndrewTateOfficial I was actually talking about Sindel. I thought you would figure it out since Shang was actually kept in personality he always had, unlike Sindel.
Logically if you stayed a machine you weren’t even his friend at all, in machine ending Connor had his mission from start to the end nothing changes. It’s Hank’s fault to see Connor as a human
@@kaantartan8668 It could probably be seen as a betrayal if you make deviant choices the whole game, become friends with Hank and then choose to remain a machine and kill Hank.
@@maxblack9419 well basically a machine is programmed to work like a friend, if connor stays as machine this means he acted like a friend to get results from the investigation. Even Hank knew that Connors emotions are fake he just believed him. Not his fault
The game very cleverly makes you decide between betraying someone that doesnt deserve to be betrayed or doing the impossible. GTA Story mode is a masterpiece like the rest
@Cristiano dos Santos Gomes it really depends on the ending, if you want to make micheal a good guy chose c, make him a monster, choose a, choose b if you want him dead.
Dutchs betrayal to Arthur when he left him in that building and then lied after and then on the mountain, rdr2 is my favorite game but man does it make me cry
The biggest one for me has gotta be in Bioshock when you find out Atlas is actually Fontaine and that he was pulling the strings all along and he was the real main antagonist of the game, not Ryan. It was such a big plot twist to 15 year old me and made me really appreciate stories in video games that much more.
I didn’t click until you walk into the room near the end of the game with “Would You Kindly?” written on the wall. Like you said dude, a teenage little me just had his mind fucking blown.
He never really realizes his mistakes, he actually shows no regrets about anything he did and he dies still proud of his actions saying everyone will remember his name. Have you payed attention to the whole cutscene? Lol
Tbh, i'm maybe the only one that mentions this but, Metro's Last Light's betrayal was unexpected, and that was the first time in my teenage years (i was 14 at the time) when i knew friends can back stab you. I was just shocked...the fact i liked Pavel so much and he just sold me out like that. Man, it was heartbreaking for me.
Biggest betrayal in video games. Naughty dog hinting in a trailer that you could play as Joel in last of us 2 but kill him off instead in early game and they never gave you the satisfaction to kill his murderer.
they never showed any joel actual gameplay and if you think it was thematically suitable for Ellie to kill Abby you weren't paying atention to the story since Joel got killed.
@@KiefferPlant yeah, so? Every good trailer ever made is deceiving like that, so we don't know what the story will be about. I've seen that happening a thousand times and it will happen a thousand more. Nothing new.
@@TheFirebreather idk how you are so stupid that you didn't even read his comment correctly. He just told you about There was joel in tlou2 trailer showing him later in the game since you said he wasn't. Kieffer just proved you something and all the sudden you're talking about things like that being in other trailers. He didn't ask about it. Really ... nobody cares. He just told you there was joel in trailer that's it end of story.
"I gave you all I had, I did" The most heartbreaking thing about Arthur's death is, that he got betrayed, by the one he loved the most, did the most for and looked up to as a father.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the only shooting game I have ever played, because I got it for free. And my heart just broke when Shepherd killed and betrayed Roach and Ghost. I got to be with them for a very short time but it was still very heart breaking 💔
When shepherd shot Roach and Ghost it made me cry because Ghost was the best character in Call of duty history and when I heard Captain Price try to save them it made me cry even more
@@Gramstaal It was to save his life. When she kissed him during the "funeral", her lipstick was laced with the revival serum. Doing so 47 would be able to kill off the "Franchise". Even the reporter.
@@ArthurCallahanSolos you should've played the other games. diana did this fake betrayal in blood money, and a fake death in absolution. so it's just lazy writing and copy-pasting the same script from previous games.
I love TLoU2 but that wasnt a betrayal actually ... she already had a plan to kill him so ... it was just bad karma for Tommy and Joel (especially for Joel tho)
I know it's an old game but Yoshimo's betrayal in Baldur's Gate 2 was really something. You encounter this guy early on in a dungeon and he quickly becomes one of the most reliable assets in your adventures. He often talks with you and you end up really appreciating his input. Then one day you are captured and you realize Yoshimo led you all the way to the main antagonist. Having a companion character betray you in a D&D game was revolutionary at the time. There's also a rather cool redemption quest afterwards.
I was not prepared to this betrayal, the most shocking one in my opinion was in GTA 4, this Dimitri MOFO used Niko to take down his best friend. This guy is just evil.
My son loves this game but never ended up beating it because it got a little hard for him he’s 5. And he loves six he doesn’t know he betrays you. Neither did I is it true?
@@antisocialkami yes he does. He was playing new god of war on easy when he was 4. I have a video of him beating a traveler bye himself. He’s my little playing game buddy. But he just turned 6 now. Lol
The thing about Dutch’s betrayal is that it’s a slow burn. It’s not one huge scene that shatters the player, it’s a buildup of Micah’s influence that eventually boils over in multiple scenes at the end of the game
When I first played COD MW2, I was literally mad at Shepard for that betrayal and killing Ghost. I rushed into those caves in the next mission and died so many times lol.
Red Dead Redemption for sure. John did all that dirty work for nothing, in the end. All it caused was for his son to become the one thing he never wanted him to be. Red Dead Redemption 2, but for Dutch, Javier, and Bill more than Micah. Micah always planned to betray Arthur/The gang, the others didn't.
I agree about RDR1, but John definitely didn't do it all for nothing. Jack exacts retribution upon the man who betrayed his father, and ultimately hangs up his guns and becomes a writer like he'd always told his pa he'd be (this is strongly indicated by the Easter Egg in GTA V).
@@Dagger_323 I disagree - what was all of that work for? All the things he was promised, a life with his family - he didn't get any of it. He did the governments work just to be killed - and it caused Jack to become the one thing John and Abigail hoped he would never be - a gun slinger. If anything, he work just unknowingly ruined the hope he had that Jack's life would be better than his own.
@@sian2706 did you not read what I said? Jack became a writer as he had always aspired to be. It is proven in GTA V’s Easter egg. Jack gunned down Ross and then walked away. He broke the cycle and didn’t succumb to a life of gunslinging. John’s efforts weren’t for nothing. If he had failed in doing what he did in RDR1, Jack and Abigail would have both been killed. John also found redemption through all his efforts in the game, the pinnacle of which was sacrificing himself for his family. He solidified his position as a changed man and not a murdering outlaw anymore. John was betrayed, but his efforts weren’t for nothing. That’s incredibly false.
@@Dagger_323 I did read what you said, and if you were to read and understand mine, you can see I didn't mention about Jack becoming a writer because that wasn't the point. The point was, Jack still became a person John did not want him to be. We don't agree on this, and that is ok.
I know Mafia 3 wasn't a good game, but the first two hours were pretty much some of the best I've ever played. And the betrayal in the prologue was done so well. The whole cutscene, with the music, (paint it black) you could tell from the characters that they knew something wasn't right here and i was still so surprised about what happened. Even though the game was one boring grind, the cutscense and story were just a masterpiece.
Personally I like mafia 3 I love the story and how you slowly take over the city the characters are great and the dlc greatly improves the game but I can see how some found it repetitive. The way I see it is that mafia 3 was like watch dogs people where so disappointed they didn't give it a chance. I wish people weren't so quick to judge and gave things a chance
For me Battlefield , Wolfenstein , Call of Duty , GTA and Mafia have the best betreyal scenes in the gaming history . But other games does have some interesting scenes too . 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Man this reminds me of something interesting. Battlefield 3 forces YOU to be the betrayer. It's unlike all the rest of these and I think that's pretty cool considering how forgettable most of that campaign was. Maybe it's not so bad after all.
