วัดชลอ ตั้งอยู่ใน ตำบลวัดชลอ อำเภอบางกรวย จังหวัดนนทบุรี เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ตั้งแต่ในสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย คาดว่าน่าจะสร้างขึ้นราวๆ ปี พ.ศ. 2275 หรือในสมัยพระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศนั่นเองค่ะ วัดจะตั้งอยู่ริมคลองบางกอกน้อย เมื่อก่อนนั้นจะเรียกกันว่าคลองลัดบางกรวย ที่ขุดขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2081 มากกว่าห้าร้อยปีมาแล้ว
มีเรื่องเล่ากันว่า เมื่อครั้งที่พระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทางชลมารคผ่านคลองลัดบางกรวย ทรงทอดพระเนตรเห็นว่าบริเวณนี้น่าจะสร้างวัดได้ เพื่อไว้สำหรับเป็นที่ยึดเหนี่ยวทางใจของชาวบ้าน แต่ด้วยบริเวณนี้เป็นคุ้งน้ำเชี่ยว เมื่อในอดีตนั้น เคยมีเรือสำเภาล่มและมีคนจมน้ำตาย รวมถึงการก่อสร้างก็ลำบากและมีอุปสรรคมากมาย แม้กระทั่งตอนที่สร้างเสร็จก็เกิดฟ้าผ่าที่กลางโบสถ์อีกด้วย
ต่อมาพระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศทรงพระสุบิน นิมิตว่ามีชายชราชาวจีนมากราบทูลขอให้พระองค์ปลดปล่อยดวงวิญญาณที่ตายเพราะเรือล่ม โดยชายชาวจีนผู้นั้นอยากให้พระองค์สร้างโบสถ์เป็นรูปเรือสำเภา หลังจากนั้นเมื่อโบสถ์สร้างเสร็จก็ไม่เกิดเหตุการณ์ใดๆ ขึ้นอีก และพระองค์ก็ได้พระราชทานนามวัดนี้ว่า วัดชลอ
Wat Chalo is located in Wat Chalo Subdistrict, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province. It is an ancient temple since the late Ayutthaya period. It is estimated to have been built around AD 1732 or during the reign of King Borommakot. The temple is located on the bank of Khlong Bang Khon Noi. Before that, it was called Khlong Lat Bang Kruai, which was dug in 2081, more than five hundred years ago.
There is a story that when King Borommakot traveled by boat through Khlong Lat Bang Kruai, he saw that this area was suitable for building a temple, to serve as a spiritual refuge for the villagers. However, since this area is a rapid bend in the river, in the past, a junk ship sank and people drowned. In addition, the construction was difficult and had many obstacles. Even when the construction was completed, lightning struck the middle of the chapel.
Later, King Borommakot had a dream that an old Chinese man came to ask him to release the spirits of those who died in the shipwreck. The Chinese man wanted him to build a chapel in the shape of a junk ship. After that, when the church was completed, nothing more happened, and he named the temple Wat Chalo.
