Happy to see some owners are keeping the Holden badges on their cars. Here in Australia I drive a VE 2 2011 Commodore that hasn't missed a beat in 10 years. I love my Holden.

@@RedSS I appreciate your outreach, and certainly these cars check all the boxes. After all these years of climbing the ladder from a 55 Chevy at 16, with a nice mix in between, 66 SS Chevelle, 69 Corvette build, 72 Nova SS my first new car, to an 87 GN frame off build, it is hard to convey the eventual culmination between Holden and GM, to turn out such a jewel. It is a thrill just to sit in it, and wait to start it. Also brings to my thoughts, what GM did to stop the GN, and the same path to the SS. I am very fortunate to have experienced a personal intersection with both. By the way, it was exactly 50 years, to the month, between my purchase of the 72 Nova SS, to the day I closed the deal on the 2017 SS... same dealership, same salesman. Tell me that wasn't a once in a lifetime happening....
@RedSS
@RedSS Год назад
@@hsavage3350 What a cool car history you have, especially the "50 year" journey from the Nova to the Holden... same salesman too? What a long career he's had!

@@RedSS It was the same guy. Cigarettes and coffee apparently make some people invincible. Real nice guy, loves what he does. The dealership was one of the few of the oldest Chevy dealers in the US. Back in 2017 they were bought out by one of the bigger players in the local area, same building, and many were retained. Rare to build those types of relationships, but even though I work on cars a bit less now, (because of my small business (electronic security), I have an Astro Van I bought from there back in 1992, that I still drive daily, and now has 512,000 on the original 4.3. No smoke, no valve train noise, and no leaking oil. When it feeds your family, you take care of it. Fed mine for over 31 years now...

Love my '17 blue but I saw a '17 Peacock Green the other day, and I'm a green freak. (By the time I bought in late Aug '17, no greens of any shade around my area.) I stopped near the guy and chatted him up for awhile about it. His sons each bought one and one of the sons sold him his before he moved out west somewhere. So every so often in my small metro area, I see that Peacock one, usually with his lead-footed wife (always an attractive feature in a woman, btw), burning it along the highway. The greens at your get together made me think of it.

As usual ...Great video . Your passion is infectious even from a Ford fan like me..I hope one day you and your family can make it to Australia and check out the Commodore SSV's, SS's , Clubsport R8's, GTS's , W 427's , W 1's etc and even a few Ford Falcon XR6T's, XR8's , and GT's, GT-P's and GT-F's . So many classics and even more so now that both GM and Ford no longer build here anymore . Everybody is hoping that GM end up going down the path that Ford did in 2015 by building RHD versions of the Camaro and Corvette for Australia and other RHD markets . The Mustang has been a big RHD success and proves a good point for GM and Dodge ..Keep your awesome vids coming . Thanks ..

GM made a big mistake in killing the Commodores production in Australia. Properly marketed as a Holden and with the Calais-V LS3, ute and wagon options made available in the US I am sure this car could have sold enough units to justify its ongoing production and that is before the cult following the car had in the Middle East is taken into account. As it is the "new" Opel sourced Commodore in Australia is already bombing, under the weight of mediocre reviews and a misguided belief at GM that somehow Australians would be happy with that car as a poor substitute for a VF or that it could compete with the Koreans and Japanese who understand the Australian market better. GM are at a real risk of dropping out of the top ten brands in Australia for good. They just had their worst sales month since they bought Holden in 1931 in January this year. This on top of last year, where some dealership franchises were withdrawn as GMH faced the reality of reduced sales. Not the end of that story I am sure. GM management screwed the pooch, but at least the boys and girls at Holden got this last LS3 model out for everyone in the US to enjoy before they were canned. Enjoy your cars fellas. We already miss them.
@jbdoingjbstuff
@jbdoingjbstuff 6 лет назад
What about all the other auto manufacturers? We they wrong too? Who is manufacturing autos in Australia currently? Thats right, no one.
@applesanonymous
@applesanonymous 6 лет назад
The majority of sales of Commodores in Australia were not V8s, as they sold more V6 and straight V6 Commodores than V8 Commodores/Calais/Caprices. The market for large V6 or V8 cars have declined over the years, and the ageing VE/VF Zeta platform meant that a new platform had to be redeveloped which would cost more than $1bn+, which is not viable for GM politics. The LS3 engine is an old engine, but a good one, but GM and the Australian government wanted to play politics and only import about 3000 units to the US and not market them properly, thus poor sales. Need and want. I have been selling the Holden brand for a short period of time, and the last lot of VFII V8s have not been flying out the door, meaning the demand for a V8 is quite low and there were was more of a demand for a V6 or similar. Don't forget that 70% of Holdens were imported, but with all other brands now 100% are imported. Ford is still around and had to work it's way back up, as well as other manufacturers that closed - Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda - all doing well now. I have a Holden Commodore SS-V Redline VFII sedan - I wanted one, but not necessarily needed one.

The Panda SS with the Texas plates... I have been looking for a hood like that in white with the blacked-out vent area. Does anyone know where he found it? Also, I love the rear spoiler on that car! Those are the types of changes I would like to make to my 17' heron white M6... that and maybe a pearl clear coat to give the curves a bit more depth in the sunlight and less washed out.

Funny how you Americans like putting Holden badges on your cars. People here do the opposite and put the Chevy badges on.
@properaussie331
@properaussie331 3 года назад
As an Aussie who owns a proper hsv , I find this embarrassing. These cars should not be in America where people don’t know how to use a clutch. #altogreyisrherarestcolour
@bowtastic1896
@bowtastic1896 3 года назад
I know many Americans that know how to drive a manual. Most of them are older though. As far as Holdens being in America, they’ve been allowed for years, the Monaro (Pontiac GTO), the VE Commodore (Pontiac G8), the Caprice (PPV for police), and the VF. At the end of the day, cars are a global business and companies will sell them where the market might make sense. That all ended anyway in 2017 when the last Commodore/Chevy SS was shipped to the US. Now Holden is gone so you no longer need to worry about the Americans getting Australian made cars anymore, not new ones at least.
@properaussie331
@properaussie331 3 года назад
Why are the Americans even aloud to have these. They are specifically designed for Australian driving style. The engine may have American roots but these cars are not meant for the sort of people who are scared of a full strength beer. Grow up America or come to Australia and see a $120,000 LS3 HSV in action
@bowtastic1896
@bowtastic1896 3 года назад
I don’t think the American customers received any memos during the sale that the car was not designed for them. Perhaps you can start a petition to secretly destroy all Holden cars in America, you’ll feel better about life after releasing the anger and gain the deep satisfaction of ruining Aussie made cars in another country. Or you can petition to have them returned to where they were built. But why would you? True, they’re not HSV, but some owners have modified them to perform similar to one, some cool builds there.
