Favorite Cecil homerun wasn't the centerfield second deck homers at Tiger Stadium or the one he hit completely out of Milwaukee County. It was the one he hit at Yankee Stadium the day Steinbrenner was kicked out of baseball for the second time. After the news broke in the stadium and the crowd gave a standing ovation of approval (we were tired of George at that point) Cecil hits a porch job. It summed up how far George had fallen and the team needed better leadership and at the end the dynasty was born that day. Then Cecil winds up a yankee in the middle of the 96 season.

But speaking of which: In his book "Brain Droppings," the late George Carlin explained the difference between coincidence and irony, and stated that if a certain baseball player achieved identical statistics to his father, that would be coincidence and not irony. And guess which father and son he chose? Bobby and Barry Bonds. But wouldn't it have been wild if it were the Fielders? (Irony: far better at hitting than fielding.)
