today I talked about some of the worst selling consoles like the PS Vita, Wii U, CDI, Sega Genesis 32x and more. twitter: / spatnz1 subreddit: / spatnz oh hello there.
@@EpicRobloxianReal ...yes, but tbh thats...okay you know what you have a genuine point youve got me stumped Btw nice hat pfp i believe its a hat in time?
Ouya, fun fact, started as a Indiegogo/kickstarter console campaign that got millions of dollars from people willing to buy it as the alternative to the android mobile devices at that time, and it still flopped because the app selection wasn't very vast and had very few games to play on it. The controller looks really cool, but it still wasn't enough to get people on board and it flopped badly. And that console came out in 2012, the same year the Wii U came out....Shocking, I know.
The Wii U sold 13 Million Units. Yes it’s probably the 2nd worst selling console Nintendo has, but the Wii U sold way better than the Bloody Virtual Boy.
Slight correction, CDs were actually way cheaper to produce than catridges. PS1 games at launch cost around 30-$50 while N64 games were 60 - $75 in the US, looking at old magazines. Btw, $50 bucks in the 90s is about $103 nowadays. Games were stupid expensive back then.
@YCCMAnon In the US, 60 - $70 for new games. However, you don't have to pay full price now, and a lot of the time, you shouldn't. Stuff like used game stores, digital store discounts, and emulation makes it way easier to get games on the cheap. Though the retro game market is complete BS. In the 90s, the only way you could consistently get games was by renting or buying new from massive retailers. Used game stores weren't really popular till the early 2000s, if I remember correctly. If you couldn't afford that: you had to trade with friends, get lucky with someone selling them to you, or mod your console to play unofficial copies. Worst of all, you had no clue what you were getting since game magazines and tv commercials were the only thing you had, and they were awful about lying. The game's industry has a LOT of problems now, but thanks to the internet, it's never been easier to get games.
I bought one recently. They're still amazing for a lot of things, and the homebrew scene is ridiculous (they can run Moonlight, so they can be used not only as PSPs, good homebrew machines, and generic Android devices, but ALSO to stream steam games over a network.)
I had one from Christmas quite a while back when I was like 10 or something. Honestly my favourite SONY console. Ever. The games in general weren't bad, but the fact you could play the PS1 Crash Bandicoot games was just golden.
The wiiu itself was actually kinda good. Theres' a bunch of virtual console games on the wiiu that now can't be accessed. Many of the games from the wiiu were good like splatton, mario 3d and breath of the wild. The points that you brought of why it failed were right though but i still feel like it should be a bit less hated.
I played the heck out of that thing. From my experience, the games that had the best gamepad integration were Splatoon and Zombi U. It's a unique experience!
I know that Microsoft wasn't mentioned in the worst list but I'll say this. Xbox one, ps vita and the wii u are all examples of companies getting way too cocky and foolish thinking that people would buy anything. Companies getting cocky or too confident tends to be their downfall. But of course shills and sometimes the companies will just blame the consumers instead of themselves lol.
Contray to popular belief, Xbox One sold reasonably well at over 40 million. Is it any better than its direct predecessor’s sales or competitors? No. But it would be a stretch to call it a failure if it at least sold more than the original Xbox (which failed to meet it’s own sales forecast of 50 million before the Xbox 360 launched).
@@crazedlunatic43 Microsoft confirmed that the xbox one was a failure and sony beat them with the ps4. But it should've lost more considering that Microsoft hired people to spy on xbox users and of course Cortana which was also on xbox one for some reason & it doesn't help that Microsoft was working with the NSA. The title where i found out about this is called Microsoft Contractors Listened to Xbox Owners in Their Homes by vice & business insider. So Microsoft lied when they said we wouldn't spy on you talk about creepy 😬.
@@crazedlunatic43the xbox 1 didn't sell well and was considered a failure by Microsoft. Besides my point wasn't if these consoles sold well or not. It was the fact that these companies got too cocky and paid the price for it heavily. Fun fact Microsoft hired contractors to spy on Kinect and Cortana.
@@crystalbry4741 If that were the case, then it seems like they only deemed it as a failure because it didn’t outsell the PS4 and later Nintendo Switch. There’s a difference between losing to a competitor and being an outright failure that the console would’ve had a shorter lifespan.
Consider making a video on the new Risk of Rain 2 DLC and update. Gearbox managed to release one of the most gamebreaking patches of perhaps all time, including several softlocks, a bug that deletes your entire safe file if you connect a second controller, and accidentally tying half the game mechanics to FPS (balanced for 30, of course). Doesn't help that the DLC content itself is also more bad than good.
They merged the code bases for both the PC and console ports of the game, which is where all the bugs come from. Including the game mechanics being tied to FPS. I'm honestly shocked that console developers are still doing that. Especially Bethesda. It's the first thing they teach you not to do, and for good reason. Yet people have been doing it since the early days of game development.
15:17 so in 2013 my dad thought of buying the wii u, and then didn't because the reviews weren't great so he decided to buy ouya. So basically we played on the wii untill the switch got released
2:49 Pornography is, to the modern day, still illegal in japan and south korea alike. That's why japanese porn either has numerous censor lines over the genitalia, or doesn't show them, For example instead opting for tentacles to get around the ban
I don't think the PS Vita wasn't overpriced. It launched at $250, same as the PSP. Samsung was also using OLED displays in their phones since 2010. What really killed the Vita was smartphones combined with a lack of compelling software. Vita does have quite a few good games, but a lot of those cater to more niche audiences. I still play mine from time to time. It's still awesome.
yep, the real problem was SONY abandoning it on making games just after 2 years, if the company isn’t confident on their console then ofc most 3rd party support will give up. Plus developers had a choice on picking which platform to develop with 3DS being way more cheaper to develop games for than the Vita and for game devs it was a no brainer.
Idk if it is true, but the reason the psp vita devs didn’t want to release games on the console is the storage of every game card. Like lets just say you game needs 2.1 gb of storage. WELL YOU CANT! Since the cards had a very limited space, they struggle to make it! Making the games look weird sometimes and sometimes lowering the fps. They literally tried to for example put somehow an hippo inside of a medium box.
Shoutout to google tho While they randomly cancelled the project, they offered refunds for everything, which is something I will never expect from a company ever again
The reason why the 32x exists is that Sega America was trying to keep the Genesis alive while Japan was rushing out the Saturn because the Genesis there was not successful. So yes, the 32x and Saturn was literally Sega competing against itself.
if I remember correctly the actually worst selling game console ever was known as the Commodore 64 GS, which was just the Commodore 64 computer without a keyboard and then for some reason they made a launch game that could only be started using the keyboard
The 3D0 was less of a console and more of a brand name. The company offloaded production onto manufacturers, which meant the expenses were passed on to the customers, which is why it was so expensive.
It should be noted that original N-Gage had the speaker and microphone on the side (which is probably why it was called a taco phone) and you couldn't change the game without pulling out the battery first. The updated N-Gage rectified some of the problems, including moving the game cart slot, but it was way too late.
Nokia N-Gage's screen and button layout was *allegedely* designed after goatse. (the resemblance is quite stunning) I speculate the later versions got a redesign because the higher ups caught on.
Seth also used the influence form the games to make Arzette, a metroidvaina influenced by the Zelda CDi games. It's very decent. There's even mods for a randomizer for the Zelda-Rando fans as well as a YTP mod that adds dark comedy to the game.
What's sad is the Wii U was a legit good console, it's just it was held back by a gimmick that confused people and the lack of performance did damage it a bit, though the Switch is prove why Power isn't always needed. Virtual Boy I believe is a pretty neat concept but I feel like Nintendo should have shelved it in favour of making the DS more powerful and putting it on par with PSP, I think it would have done even better than it did. PS Vita, was seriously let down by Sony themselves because it's my favourite Playstation console to play PS One, PS2, PSP and PS Vita games on, also I really wanted that Bioshock Vita game so badly (Being a huge bioshock fan and all) Apple Pipin sounds like what Sony originally planned for the PS4 before the dev teams told them "NO!" on that and went with an APU instead.
To think the PS Vita would've been a better portable console if Sony pushed its release from 2011-2015 or 2016. Because by that point, memory would be much cheaper to produce and moee developers would definitely can put their effort on making near full console type games on it. (It was unironically the Switch before the Switch, but they found the way to fuck that up) As the saying goes, "just because you can make an advance piece of technology, doesn't mean you should" at least not as soon as possible?
The Virtual Boy was a good idea in concept, actually. Today you can try the virtual boy emulator on the quest 2 and you'll see what it should have looked like to begin with. It had the potential to be an amazing step between 2D and 3D. In the intro of Virtual Boy Wario Land, there's this forest scene and the 3D effect makes the meadow seem to go off in the distance, and I thought that'd make for some amazing scenes in a legend of zelda game.
i'm a huge wii u advocate and long-time fan, but yeah, they marketed that thing horribly. me personally, i think it's the best nintendo console ever made. wonderful home menu, some great software when there was any (splatoon, mario kart, virtual console's last thread of life, miiverse, vWii support, etc), and so much more. and with splatoon, that went so well for the wii u that it spawned the best series of all time! (in my opinion) oh, and super mario 3d world and super mario maker are the best mario games, right up there with the likes of super mario odyssey. so glad sm3dw + bowser's fury was made.
5:40 and another, though unsure if it was a Japan release only, was The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime. It was basically a point and click game with 3D graphics.
@@SaxtonGaming1401 True, but it doesn't change that the marketing made me forget it existed at the time. I also had the 3ds, which I played for many hours.
It’s been known for ages that the Virtual Boy was essentially a stopgap due to the delays of the N64. And Nintendo still likes to acknowledge the thing every now and then. Like the Virtual Boo in Luigi’s Mansion 3.
I just wanted to check back in after unsubscribing. I would've thought his voice of all things was the last thing worth not liking, I wouldn't say it's that bad, passionate angry works. Though the subjects, mainly being games coming out I didn't care about, were what drove me to move out. Seriously, was it _just_ his voice? Be honest, man. What else is in there?
So a little thing about the Nokia. Apparently, the designer of it did a joke design for stress relief that looked like Goatsee, **which don’t search that up please,** and the designer left the project. But apparently, the company went ahead with the design and that’s how we have the button layout.
IMO sony was responsible for the vitas death. Overpriced af memory cards and more or less abandoning it were the 2 biggest factors i think. Japan 3rd party singlehandedly kept it afloat for years.
For Google stadia, the number Google provide are accurate, but speed isn't the main factor for cloud gaming, latency is, and most people are on wifi using their crappy ISP provided router As someone who did use stadia, on ethernet it pulled about 13 mbits for 1080 streaming, the visual imaged looked great, bit it felt terrible to play because the latency was so high, AND I WAS ON ETHERNET, I can't imagine how bad it was for people on wifi
the 3do had great exclusives like road rash and gex which did a lot better on consoles launched way later, also need for speed started as a 3do exclusive
I had a Wii U and the only reason why I ever wanted one was for the game Lego City Undercover if that game did not release or exist I would have never had a Wii U in the first place. also, my parents could have just gotten me the 3DS version of the game which is a prologue to the Wii U game since I had a 3DS at the time unfortunately now it's owned by my brother who stole it and lied that it was lost for years. instead of spending the money on a Wii U but oh well can't change the past now. my own Wii U I don't even own it anymore I gave it away to a friend of mine.
13:48 hi actual Wii U and animal crossing amibo festival here I frickin loved the Wii U i loved the gamepad and one of my favorite games was pokken tournament and I just got the dx version today and am having so much fun anyway I loved my Wii U I had so much memories with it but I sold it eventually
i would have argued that the vita is underpowered, but i can totally agree that it's in this weird in-between area where its overpowered for mobile games but underpowered for home console ports. all the 2d indie stuff runs perfectly fine for the most part, but the 3d stuff and ported games run horribly, too many barely getting over 20 fps if even that (resident evil revelations 2 and borderlands 2 for example). if they had clocked the cpu higher, many of the games would run just fine (some at framerate cap and native resolution like project diva f/f 2nd), homebrew proves that there really arent problems with doing that.
