I really love your videos. You've empowered me to not only be in private practice full time (just left my full time government job last month), but to also start my own practice consulting business. I love your style and authenticity.
Some areas of specialty may be things where we haven't had a ton of clients or training but we have our own lived experience. For example, as a therapist with some focus on gender and sexuality, I do have experience with clients and training but nothing like someone like Dr. Z. But, as a nonbinary therapist, I have more personal insight I can draw from that is unique compared to a cis therapist. So I present myself as someone who not only talks the talk but walks the walk personally and understand some of the tools I might offer to clients because I have used them in my own journey. I know many therapists who specialized in addiction recovery because of their own experiences with addiction. Another thing I do for some areas where I am still growing but want to cultivate focus, such as religious trauma, is refer to it as just that... a "focus." I'll also refer to it as a "personal passion." That way I'm not throwing around the word "specialize" because that can lead to ethical issues, at least in my state, if you are claiming the title of "specialist" without a certain level of training. So I'm being authentic in acknowledging that I may not have a ton of experience, and would be very transparent with clients, but I'm also stating that I am passionate about certain presenting challenges. That passion has sometimes been the selling point for a client more so than experience, because they know they have someone in their corner as an ally to figure it out with them rather than an "expert" who may actually be rather disinterested.
Marie, what you're saying I found really interesting, but I found it hard to connect. The presence of that huge microphone setup felt like a block for me and difficult to get past. This most likely says more about me than it says about you! I do hope you don't mind me mention it.
Thank you! I’ve gotten a lot of feedback about my audio quality being poor. It does seem that there’s a choice between prioritizing audio or video and it’s hard to nail both! I’ll see if I can maneuver the arm a different direction but I’ll likely keep the mic close to my face so folks can hear :)
@@PrivatePracticeSkills a lav mic might help. I think this is an awesome setup, you look approachable, therapeutic, and comfortably gesturing with the full couch view. And your sound is crisp. It's valuable content in a video podcast approach, and you can't make everyone happy!
