Climbing Mount Fuji can be a fun and rewarding experience. But it can also quickly turn into a nightmare if you are not well prepared; just like I was in 2014 when I first climbed the mountain. In today's video, I talk about 5 of the biggest mistakes I made when climbing Mount Fuji so you can avoid them and share some tips and tricks on how to make your Mt. Fuji Hike successful!

Hey guys and gals, still no hiking this week as the rain continues so all that's left was talking about hiking *sigh*. Hopefully this rainy season ends soon...

Choosing light shoes can be a mistake in my opinion . You have to keep in mind that weather at Mt. Fuji can change easily. During my ascend it heavily rained and I was really thankful that at least my shoes were dry, thanks to the heavier leather boots I picked. The boots weren’t an issue at all.
@AdamRifi
@AdamRifi 2 года назад
That's true, it can change pretty quickly up there! I was lucky enough to only have snow not rain that day but I bet those boots would have been really helpful in heavy rain :)

I’m so pissed. It was raining this weekend so I canceled my reservation for the hut at the 8th station. I looked at off season hiking tours, but they didn’t have any sunrise observing, as they only offered one day and they start hiking from the 5th station at 6am. I wanted to see the sunrise. This weekend was my last chance before the hiking season ends. Have any tips?
@AdamRifi
@AdamRifi 2 года назад
Hmm I heard people do the hike off-season too, it's not like the trails close down. But I wouldn't recommend it if you are not experienced with hiking as facilities will be closed. If you decide to go, I'd do it early (still in September) and potentially with other people as well

Hello! Do you have any idea if I hike Mt Fuji in August night trek is it okay doing alone? Is there a high possibility of rain during the trek? Thanks
@Buggiy
@Buggiy Год назад
There is a high possibility. Going alone is fine in good weather. But dont do it if it is stormy or rainy as you can get lost. More so at night.

Adam, your commentary is correct on everything* (I didn’t stay on the mountain, so I can’t comment on that part of your experience, but I believe you*). Don’t hike Fuji on August 6, especially at night. It’s the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. The mountain is painfully crowded. One of my travel partners was like a nice, Italian version of Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation,. This guy lost it, was yelling Italian insults due his mountain confinement and anxiety due to such slow movement. The trek went so damn slow. I understand, now, that it was a spiritual trek for our fellow hikers, but we didn’t know that at the time. We didn’t understand we were amid a spiritual journey. Obviously we felt like jackasses when we found out. We hiked at night, then stayed at a B&B nearby on August 7 to rest. That night was eloquent and relaxing, perhaps better than hiking Fuji. If you’ve never hiked Fuji, you should, but you should also make indulgent plans for when you’ve descended. And don’t go on August 6-7.

I‘m planing to climb Mount Fuji alone in summer 2022. No climbing experience, normal fitness condition with 43. My plan would be to start earlier than recommended, around at 12:00pm, so I can do it very slowly and be at the 8. station around 7pm. Is it possible to spend the whole night in the hut, have breakfast and then going calmly to the summit avoiding the crowds who want to see the sunset or you must leave the hut at 2:00am? Is it true that there are no toilets when going down? Thank you very much.
@AdamRifi
@AdamRifi 3 года назад
Unfortunately I think they forcibly wake you up at 3AM in the morning to get to the top, but maybe you can ask them if you could stay longer! And yes no toilets on the way down unfortunately, there's also no other stations along the way
@911skull
@911skull 2 года назад
Depends on the hut, I guess. The mountain hut I stayed at, Taishikan 8th station, wants you to leave at 5am latest. And there is one place with toilets on the way down Mt. Fuji - it’s at the height of the 7th station. But it takes some time to get there, depending on how fast you are. In the early stage of the descending trail there is at least one trail which leads you back to the ascending trail of the Yoshida trail. That’s your chance to go to one of the huts and use the toilet. I think there is even one more path, so you have at least two options and the toilet I mentioned earlier. And you have to keep in mind that in September some of the huts are already closed. As I went to the summit on September 10th everything on the summit was closed, even the toilet. If you want to stay at one of the huts, you have to do a reservation in advance. In my case they wanted me to check in by 6pm . Most important, bring a pair of hiking poles.

Are you allowed to hike during March, April?
@AdamRifi
@AdamRifi 2 года назад
The official climbing dates are only between June/July and September. There is nothing stopping you from climbing it in March or April but there are no facilities and there is a lot of snow and cold temperature on the top. Unless you are very experienced with climbing high snow mountains, I would not recommend climbing during that season (as people have tried and died before)

10:28 "like standing in queue for Disneyland". This is why I won't go to popular tourist sites. Won't do it. Instead I found a hotel on the border of France and Italy. I looked out and chose a mountain close by, and I climbed it. At the summit, I found a pole with a cross, marking that it was the goal, and then I went back down. Wasnt quick or easy. Wasn't Everest or Fuji. But it was all I needed, and it was incredible. I honestly feel that the hordes of "thrill seekers", many fools, many idiots, don't realize that you can get this same sort of experience, and it DOESN'T NEED A LABEL like "Everest", to feel so good. That shit is a tourist trap, and in my opinion... A waste of time, and way more deadly than the experience should be.
@AdamRifi
@AdamRifi 3 года назад
Yeah it can get very busy on some of the mountains in Japan as well. With Fuji you can't really avoid it but some of the more popular routes you can usually beat the crowds if you leave early and go on a weekday if possible
